  1. that sucks mate. it seems to be getting more common these days. in the last couple of months 3 of the guys i work with, one of our building sites and myself have been ripped off. lazy ingrate punks who feel they are entitled to steal off hardworking people because they can't be bothered working to provide the luxuries (and quite often drugs and alcohol) that they crave. it's got nothing to do with need, there is a social welfare system in this country that provides the necessities. to hear that your children will be deprived of the magical christmas that you have worked so hard to provide for them makes your story that much sadder and more infuriating. hopefully you can still have something of a christmas.
  2. 125kg per castor isn't a huge point load for a concrete floor, even if it doesn't have steel reinforcing. if the floor was only a thin layer of concrete (less than 75mm) it may cause it to crack, but it won't break through. that said removing the castors shouldn't be too hard, and may make it easier to pack underneath the legs of the stand.
  3. your tank being a little bit out of level isn't going to harm it (alothough it will mean an uneven gap between the top and the waterline which can be bad aesthetically). put the level on the stand, if it is out of level lift the low side of the level till the buble is centered. this will give you an indication of how much the floor is out by. if you think it is too much, put some packers under the low side of the stand untill it is level (or close to). then put packers under the castors that have been lifeted off the ground.
  4. the easiest thing to do is put the stand in place and see how it sits. if there are any gaps between the castors and the concrete pack them with a non-compressable material. i would be pretty surprised if there was anything like 1-2cm difference. chuck a level over the stand aswell to see if it needs levelling.
  5. depends on how your stand is built. for small gaps (up to 5 mm) you could use dpc (damp proof course, available from placies, bunnings etc). anything bigger than that you'd be best to use timber packers (ideally ply as it doesn't compress). how handy are you with power tools?
  6. just alter the stand to suit the concrete, it'll be fine. (ie pack or trim the legs so the tank sits level)
  7. good to see you're not too busy to inteject with your sanctmonious posts. throwing negativity at the situation will accomplish heaps
  8. if i beleived in god i'd be thanking him right now.
  9. i've seen your setup (bought an automatic fish feeder off you) and i've seen your passion. i feel for you mate. i hope you've got it sussed.
  10. silver ferns beat australia (but only just), which won't receive the coverage it deserves. but lets face it, the world cup has been amazing so far (and even better when we win). even if you don't like rugby, surely you can appreciate what it has done for our country.
  11. you could try getting hold of an old camping shower, though they are a fair bit bigger so may no be suitable. just a thought.
  12. fair enough giving the guy stick, but it's poor form to celebrate someone getting injured. yeah he's arrogant and cultivated ill will from new zealand crowds, but i think things are going a bit far with the quade hatred. do we really want to project such a bad image of poor sportsmanship to the rest of the world.
  13. amazing looking fish. and in nz no less. that's awesome.
  14. i've got my julies breeding in a tank that size
  15. haha, that stand is getting further into the future. i thought they were dickfeldi myself, so obviously still got a bit to learn
  16. i talked to a guy the other day who said he bought this filter. get hold of hollywoods, they'll ship one to you
  17. i'll be heading in from the north shore (browns bay) if anybody wants a ride in
  18. the deposit is normal for buying a house. it is part of the purchase price and therefore the bank should transfer the money once the deal goes unconditional. the deposit is held in trust and is transfered to the seller upon settlement (along with the balance of the purchase price). all of this is very standard and you shouldn't have to worry about anything. it sounds like you need to talk with your bank manager again as this should have been explained to you mush more clearly. if you have been pre-approved for your mortgage then it should have been fairly simple for you.
  19. would have been keen, but will be busy that weekend. take lots of photos

    The What's Up? thread.

mate that sucks. any idea what happened?
  21. while i'm sure i place a lot more importance in rugby and the world cup than you, i have to agree. the herald website is completely dominated by different peoples opinion of carters injury. yes it is newsworthy, but so are a lot of other things. there is huge civil unrest in the middle east and europe, the economy is perilously close to another collapse and millions are in famine across africa. yet a groin strain dominates all media. new zealand journalism seems to be getting lazier and more tabloid based by the day. i was in the supermarket the other day and couldn't help but compare the newspapers to the womans periodicals, and there wasn't a lot of difference to what was on the front covers of each
  22. either slade or weepu will take the kicks
  23. yeah we'll miss him, but we've still got a strong team. while we're certainly not assured the cup, none of the other teams are playing well. south africa looked shakey against wales and samoa. australia have lost players to injury and are terrible in the scrums and mauls. england only just scraped past scotland and france are rubbish. if we keep it tight and hold onto the ball i reckon we'll be right.
  24. went to the police station to file a report. there's not really anything they can do. it happened sometime between 10:30pm last night and 6 this morning, so noone would have seen anything. replacement glass has been ordered and the window temporarily patched up. all the broken glass cleaned up. the shed is lined, the dog is walked. even managed to get a wof done and do the shopping. by shopping i mean food shopping and a couple of u.v filters for the apisto tanks (aquaworld has got some good deals on). should have time to do some water changes and still get a nap in before cooking tea.
