  1. Well aware it's done (know a few people with switches under their dash). Was merely pointing out why the previously described scenario would be considered an issue
  2. Imagine if someone disconnected their speedo to avoid paying road user charges (as well as keeping the kms on their vehicle down for resale) and when they were pulled over claimed they were on the way to get the parts to fix it. How would the authorities know any different.

    The What's Up? thread.

Personally I'm all for government support of another americas cup challenge. It puts New Zealand on the international stage. As has already been stated both boats were using New Zealand technology and craftsmanship (as well as sailing talent). This situation has come about because of continued New Zealand involvement in the cup. The New Zealand boat building industry grows after every cup challenge (regardless of the result) and if we were to win it the gains are huge. Yes it's a rich mans sport, but they are exactly the people we want spending thier money here
  4. Haha, when I was traveling through Central America years ago daddy Yankee was playing everywhere
  5. If you're growing for Christmas trees the roots won't be that big by the time you cut them. Besides if you're planning on building in the next 5 to ten years I'd say you won't have to worry as you'll need some sort of excavation done anyway and the trees wouldn't be big enough to cause any issues in that time
  6. Haha irony. How about we get back to the topic rather than attacking each other. Regardless of who did what, move on. Have you got any photos of the land Jack, it would be cool to see your wee chunk of tranquility
  7. Why don't we stay on topic rather than rehash old arguments. Back to the lifestyle block, Jack I think your best bet is to wait a little bit before making a final decision. Whatever you choose to do, it sounds like there is a bit of preparation required. Sort out your fencing and water supply etc. and work out how much time you are happy to spend on it. Unless you are going to be out there at least every second day I would not recommend livestock. However you may find you have a friendly neighbour who is willing to keep an eye on things for you that can reduce this. If you're anything like me you won't see it as a chore, but as a release from the rat race that we live in. Near in mind though that the times when you least want to be there (cold stormy evenings) are the times when it is probably most important that you are. Farming isn't easy, but it is certainly rewarding

9 out of 10 times it would be fine. But if you make a basic frame to sit on top of the blocks and then fix the ply to that it will be much safer, and like I say, why take the risk. Check trade me for ply and timber rather than paying retail at mitre 10/ placies etc. South Pacific timber is usually the cheapest

It's not the blocks that are the issue, it's the ply. I use the stuff all the time at work (residential building). If it is put over joists at 600 centres there is noticeable flex in it (particularly if not fixed down). For the sake of $20 worth of 4x2 and a few nails why take the risk?

I'd agree about the stand. Along the front edge the ply looks to be completely unsupported for about 600mm, which is a large enough gap to allow it to deform (consequently allowing the glass panel to deform). I'd be adding in another stack of blocks through the middle or attach the ply to a timber frame to provide more support to the ply
  11. 10 acres is a good sized chunk of land. Whatever you put on it wil require work, but it's definitely worth it. I grew up on 25 acres with goats and then sheep. They really need to be checked regularly, provided with water and moved from paddock to paddock. On top of that there is drenching, shearing vaccinating etc. If you want easy you should probably plant it out
  12. Pupuke Aquarium is your best bet. 1 Lydia Ave in Northcote
  13. Calm down mate, they're just ribbing. And just because they're not in the military doesn't mean any sense of accomplishment is unfounded. Anyone who goes to work each day and puts in a good effort is accomplishing. And those that do so whilst raising children even more so. And to move away from the jovial, I have friends in the Airforce, Army and Navy. As with any career it has pros and cons. The big thing is to make the most of any opportunities put in front of you
  14. So you mean they are being surreptitiously taught?
  15. I run 2 aqua one cf1200s on my African tank and they work great. You can pick them up from Hollywoods for about $130 each which is pretty good value IMO. If you can pick up a fluval fx5 at a good price that would also be a good option for a tank your size
  16. That's ok, they sell tanks as well
