just got the peacocks today. 5 stuartgranti. 1 jacobfreibergi. all males. will keep a very close eye on things. They all came from 1 tank though, so hopefully things work out. I also have a maleri red in there that hasn't coloured up yet.

Seeing as I've lost my breeding setup I've put a bit of effort into getting my display tank well stocked and looking nice. Ryan had about a dozen clown loaches in one of his African tanks and they were fine. The eat the trumpet snails, which is why I'm thinking of putting some in my tank.

Sport is not for meatheads. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it is valueless. Sports make exercise more fun (for the majority of people) and teach sportsmanship and teamwork. Sounds like the issue is poor quality teaching rather than p.e.

Lots of people don't like maths. Should they stop making students do that. School is about more than just academics. We are becoming a nation of overweight, unfit people and the health system is struggling as it is. Personally I don't think they put enough emphasis on p.e.

See if aqua world can get one in for you. They are usually cheaper than hff.

You make a fair point graham, but there is more to it than just water flow. If the filter is off the temp in the filter is no longer regulated. And while 95% of the time it may be fine, in a heavily stocked tank a filter crash can be disastrous. It just doesn't seem worth the risk to me. Lining the inside of your cabinet with soundproofing would seem like a better option to me if you are worried about noise.

Bad idea. If you switch off the filter like that you risk losing the bacteria and crashing your tank. Filters should be left on 24/7 unless being cleaned/serviced.

Don't base an id on what the fry look like. Statistically it is much more likely that they are hybrids. Ideally wait till the fry have matured and have someone who knows what they are doing check out they parents and next generation. Realistically you have has experienced fish keepers refute the id based on the adult, which is probably a good indication they are not LDA72

Mine might end up being common BN too :an!gry , I'll try and get some photos of mum & dad and post them here for confirmation. Don't you hate when people sell fish based on a dodgy i.d. You pay good money for what turns out to be a common fish. Happened to me when i first got into fishkeeping.

Charged to go for a walk in the bush?

there are a few walks that do have charges just for using the track. this is because parts of the track go across privately owned land. the charge is to compensate the owners for maintanance that they have to perform on the sections of the track that are on their land. It may seem a bit of a rip-off to have to pay to go for a walk, but at the same time why should private land owners have to pay to let the public walk over their land. -
the shed was already there when i moved in, i just insulated, lined and wired it up. it is also on a concrete slab so not really moveable. realisticaly it didn't cost me much as i used salvaged materials.

Just lost my fish shed. Broke up with my girlfriend, and apparantly seeing as how she owns the house, I'm the one that has to move out.
