  1. Just putting this out there, I grew up in a single parent family with my mum. But I think (particulary as a girl) I would also have been quite upset to find strange people in my parents bed. Probably more so if I had lived with my dad. You don't want her growing up thinking casual is the norm so I'd be careful when it comes to your little girl. Having said that, my dad left when I was 7 and I havent seen him since (now 18), so big ups to you for sticking by your kids!
  2. I have the same problem with my sand, a couple of near 100% water changes do the trick for me After putting the new water in, just mix it up and let it settle again for at least a few hours before the next water change.
  3. hahaha nah I'm good  shocking that someone actually did that though
  4. Thanks everyone As soon as my wrist is healed I'm gonna start doing oil paintings of fish. Selling them will help pay for my newfound addiction to this hobby
  5. Are you breeding these?? I want some! :nilly:
  6. I don't know how you do it I filled a bucket of sand up with water, swirled the sand round, let it settle, then tipped out the murky water. Did that about 20 times. Wouldn't be as hard if I didnt have a broken wrist I guess
  7. !drool: !drool: !drool: I rinsed a good 10kg of silica sand today. What a mission! No clue how some people do 100kg+
  8. Whatever they are, they're awesome looking fish!
  9. Here's the only okay pic I could find  Me and my pooch, Sydney off to collect for the SPCA (where I'm an intern part-time) :happy2:
  10. I finally got the final bits and pieces for my bedroom tank today. Now just need to wait until I can afford to stock it :nilly: Next project is to re-design my 2ft tank with sand and hopefully real plants. Just need the know-how and cash
  11. Wow! Awesome photography! Love the close up of the Angel :spop:
  12. Thanks Joe Nah not really, I'm terrible at people and cartoony things  Animals and nature are what I do best
  13. mine definately looks like algae I don't have a pipe brush either so I have to sort of fill it up with the tap and then give it a good wack against the sink. It's icky and smells of consintrated fish poop :nilly: I need to clean my pipes as often as every 2 weeks or like above, the filter outflow is reduced to a trickle.
  14. Three days without any more casualties until this morning. 2 more died overnight. I'm now down to 3  Now pretty much just waiting for the others to die so I can start over
  15. This happens with all my hang on filters too and their pipes are black. A pain to clean out :an!gry
  16. Just hadn't finished filling it up yet, its hard carrying buckets around with a broken wrist haha. All done now though
  17. Okay here's my two newest tanks, both are very basic but I'm still playing around. Plus I now have a little live plant (and I havnt killed it yet!!) Sorry for the awful pictures! Kitchen tank: I'm not overly happy with the layout - plan on getting plants for the back, but I love the gravel Bedroom tank: I wanted something very basic and low maintenance. Came up with this zen look - very happy with it. My first go with sand! :happy1:
