  1. Agreed, you can get most sizes for around $23 on TM :nilly:
  2. Haha yeap, he's in there for picking on my guppies! He has his own tank but the heaters playing up
  3. Definately wont be crossing the albinos with others which is why I need to keep males and females seperate. I plan on getting another 2ft for breeding as soon as I can track one down at a good price I got this one brand new at HFF for $42 so I'm hoping to get out there soon and get another one. Damn my broken wrist and non-driving-ness :an!gry
  4. Thats pretty much it for this tank, I've got the other two tanks to set up aswell so I have no idea how I'm going to re-arrange everyone :dunno: The fighter can't be with the male guppies and neither can the female guppies when I get them as I don't want them breeding randomly. I was thinking male guppies, cories and bristlenose in the 2ft, female guppies, platies and betta in the 34L and bubbas in the 24L?? I really have no idea :nilly: anyone with a better plan??
  5. I've got silca sand on it's way, I hate the blue - it came with my small tank and I've been saving up to change it. The temp is set to 28 but because all my tanks are in the garage at the moment the water stays at around 26-27
  6. I've never had any trouble there, I just spend awhile checking that there's absoloutly nothing dodgy in the tank :slfg: went this morning though and the guy was releasing a big bag of female guppies & green water into the tank
  7. I lived pretty much next door to there up till a week ago. All my fish I got from him have been really sick (with white spot and something else unknown) and died so I'm scared of getting anything else There's always rotting fish in the tanks too :tears:
  8. Yeah got them and the cories from myfishybuisness. Now just need to find them some girlfriends :nilly:
  9. So I'm still really new to this, I got my first tank 4 months ago (a 24L aqua one) and have since aquired two new tanks (a 2ft and a 34L). I got asked for a few pictures of my main tank so here they are I'm deperately saving for a bigger one! :happy2: Specs: Glass standard 2ft tank (60x30x30) Aqua One Clearview300 hang on filter Aqua One heater at 28 degrees Blue gravel, driftwood, ornament, plastic plants and one live one to experiment with Inhabbitants: 7 x assorted male guppies 3 x albino male guppies 3 x albino cories 1 x GBA 1 x Turquoise Betta and 3 platties added today
  10. I haven't tried them but the levels of protein don't look right to me - they're too high for vegetarians such as plecos :smln:
  11. Aww cutie! If he is a native it'd be best to ring a wildlife carer/zoo/department of conservation
  12. Yeah it'd be really cool to see some established tanks I don't know any fish keepers so the best I have to look at is animates. When I first went into HFF I was running around like a little kid. It's my new favourite place !drool:
  13. Thanks for the advice I might look into them. I'm getting a third tank tomorrow and havent decided what I'm putting in there yet.
  14. I just moved house on friday so the only stuff in my tanks at the moment is gravel and driftwood  I'll take some when they arnt in such an embarassing state. Here's an old picture of my first ever tank though I got it at the begining of this year for my animal care course and I quickly became addicted to fish keeping from there.
  15. Wow that's stunning! Can't wait to get started! :happy2:
  16. I would if I could, it's much funner to visit! But it's a bit out of the way for me. I buy all my equipment off the HFF website though, it often it works out to be even cheaper than trademe and their delivery is super quick!
  17. Glad I read this thread! Starting my planted tank on Sunday and I was planning on leaving my lights on 24/7
  18. Unfortunately I'm an intern and student with no pay or allowances or I probably would have brought something bigger :tears: I got the AR380 for $65 off trademe so It'll have to do for now. I do have a 60L glass tank that I could plant but I can't afford proper lighting for it. I'll see how this goes and hopefully by the time I can afford a proper tank I'll know how to set it all up :happy2:
  19. Thanks heaps I think I'll try that out. The tank I just bought is a second hand (already cycled) aqua one aquastyle AR380 including the 11watt tube, wet and dry trickle filter and very fine gravel so hopefully will be good for a first go at plants! :happy2:
  20. My largest tank is 60L Like I say, very new with a very small budget lol I'll have a look in the plants section
  21. Hey guys, so after having a nose around the forum I am officially very jealous of all your tanks! As I'm still pretty new to this I've never attempted to try a planted tank before (I have a bit of a brown thumb ) but now I'm feeling very inspired to do so. Just wondering what you guys would recommend for a first timer? Gravel or sand? Also whats a couple of good begginers plants? I was thinking I'd try small first in my 34L as it's already got the right lighting etc. and wouldn't cost too much if I screw up! :happy2: Thanks!
  22. Definately useful! Keen to try this one day. The bottle trick is a wicked idea to save money and I imagine a lot nicer with better water circulation for the fish than those little 500ml - 1L glass compartments
