  1. Surprised we haven't had a prediction like this: Watch out for a zombie uprising! Get your cricket bats ready. I agree with many comments above... people are trying to get their names out there, and the media and the internet means they can. Like that pastor in America, how many times has he predicted the end of the world? Idiots.

  4. Looks awesome. May need to go on a road trip in the near future and explore various aquariums aroudn the North Island Thanks for sharing!
  5. New Zealand is a little bit behind with sprays when you consider the main ingredients in round up etc have been banned in most other major developed nations due to health risks. For instance 245t which is a main ingredient in these sprays is similar to agent orange. :smot: But back on topic.... Stella I will be sharing this on my facebook etc and getting some sign ups
  6. Agree with you Smidey... I watch it most weeks and some of the stuff he does is pretty awesome. I like they way he de-bunks myths surrounding certain fish as well.
  7. Hey all, Thanks for the replies. I went into the LFS, and I have found out that this problem isn't fixable. Apparently this particular model of Eheim had some sort of random flaw with it when it was first released, which allowed a lot of water to build up in the motor head itself, which would then in turn leak. Eheim have sorted this out with the filters being manufactured now days. Unfortunatly the only way to fix this issue is to replace the motor head unit. It is covered under warrenty, except I would have to go back to the shop I bought it from, which happens to be in the South of Germany where I was when I bought it... soooo, I'm going to have to fork out for a new motor head unit because it will be easier and cheaper than getting in touch with the fish shop in Germany :tears: Ah well, looking on the bright side... I will have a whole set of spare parts for the new unit :slfg: Cheers all.
  8. Afternoon all, I have been fighting with my filter for a good two months now... A couple of months ago I noticed that the floor under the cabinet was all wet... filter was leaking... so I moved the cabinet, got floor dried out and purchased one of those square storage cubes that the filter now sits in so if it leaked again it wouldn't go all over the floor. Well, I have done everything I can think of in terms of working out why the silly thing is leaking, but nothing seems to work and it is still leaking! So far I have replaced the pre filter foam and fine wool media in the filter, completely cleaned out the canister (not the media), checked all the o-rings, cleaned the impellor and shaft area, checked the canister for cracks... everything seems fine and it is still leaking. It is leaking very slowly out of the top of the filter, normally out of the area where the power cord enters the unit... and when I turn it off and tip it back the water pours out of the back of the motor bit. I'm really frustrated by this because I have to turn off the whole filter weekly so I can empty the container it is sitting in, and because I can't seem to fix it! :an!gry Anyone encountered something like this before and have any advice? Or should I just go to the LFS and buy all new O-rings and hope that works Cheers in advance!
  9. That is pretty choice! I guess the lesson is to take lots of photos at different times so you get to see them at their different colourations. Nice photo BTW
  10. Good to see there has been some recovery... still not at pre-work conditions, so hopefully it can continue to regenerate and get closer to what it was before, although from what your photos and description show the riparian cover is going to struggle to regenerate at all. I guess going spotlighting will be the telling factor... most of the streams in my area seem completely devoid of life during the day... might see the odd splash, but at night is a totally different story... I am hopeful that you will find a bustling underwater community in there when you shine your lights in Thanks for the update Supasi.
  11. Hehe, nice work Blue
  12. Cool pic of frog hunting Needs the Jaws soundtrack behind it for added impact
  13. Kia Ora and welcome to the forums... Another native lover on the Shore... excellent!
  14. It's just like farming... Humans breed animals to feed to other animals everyday... no issue in my opinion. Just make sure the animals are well looked after while alive... like free range vs barn raised vs cage raised. But that is a whole other topic that isn't needed in this thread

    Demotivators!

I wonder how people know what this is referring to
  16. *Crawls back along limb so doesn't fall off into the ravenous Kokopu* Nice looking bucket of fish there Stella... it is cool seeing them all together
  17. Awesome. Love the underwater pictures! :bounce: I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest the last set of photos (fifth and six fish?) are indeed banded kokopu, they look very similar to the ones I've been chasing in my area, whereas the other's look quite a bit different in the jaw and colouration. *Sits down on limb and awaits confirmation from Stella & co.*
  18. Haven't visited my local streams for a while, so I went out over the weekend to see what was happening in the aquatic world. I went and looked at a few different streams this time round, and was good spotting... night started off with an eel slowly cruising it's way up a stream, looked very graceful swimming along... I tried taking some video footage but it came out rubbish... here is a photo instead: Then I travelled up stream and was finding A LOT of decent size Banded Kokopu (up to 15cms in some cases)... they were everywhere... problem was, the silly things would often startle with the spotlight and dart off, which stirred up the clay bottomed silty stuff which means I couldn't get any good pics or see anything else in the stream. I continued upstream and found a shallow part and noticed quite a cool coloured Koura trying to hide under a stick... pity the stick was smaller than the Koura... So I took some photos, first two are it chilling out under it's stick, third one is it hiding under some fallen vegetation after I attempted to move it's stick to get a better photo... it shot off to play spot the Koura. I continued to look into a lot of pools and streams and found another couple of pools where kokopu weren't stirring things up too badly so I was able to get some more photos: Good thing is, there is plenty of life in the streams. I am happy to see bullies, shrimp, kokopu, eels and koura in abundance. I have started construction of a 60x30x30 tank that will house a single Koura, thus far I have painted the back of the tank, and got a decent filter for it... need to go get some gravel and rocks from the streams, but that will all be shown and explained in the tank construction thread I will start later on with photos Cheers.
