  1. it's not uncommon to have a semi-pet hedgehog tho is it? as a smoker i'm often outside at night, so i always see/hear hedgehogs, and leave cat pellets out for them.. they can eat a lot of cat pellets! they also loooove soggy bread, preferably soaked in milk but water will do. they are very tame if you are non menacing, and if you start feeding them, they will keep coming back to the same place for more.
  2. i'm waiting for the bit where they ask for your credit card number
  3. salvini will eat the barbs once his mouth is big enough (or even before). it will probably pick on the t-bars too, but in saying that, as with many other american cichlids, often it is luck of the draw as to whether you get an aggressive or passive one. but as for it eating the small fish, that is a definite...
  4. i love my cat, he is sociable, friendly and very tame, but he is a ruthless serial killer, often torturing birds by catching them, injuring them, releasing them, and catching them again. he kills 3-4 birds a week, usually sparrows and thrushes, and never eats them. with over a million cats in NZ, the numbers of their victims would be phenomenal. i have bought collars with bells on for my cat but somehow he gets the bell off every time. i think putting a registration fee on cats would discourage "cat lady" type behaviour and help to keep the numbers down. i also think that neutering of cats should be widely available free or much cheaper than it is now. also possibly implement a limit on how many cats one household can have. if anybody from auckland would like to have their cat neutered, get in touch with my friend danielle at www.gutterkitties.co.nz as she arranges neutering for only $20.
  5. i have been told that if they leave little white droppings around their enclosure they are male, as these are sperm packages. stop me if i'm wrong... i have been thinking about making a leash for mine, possibly using an elastic band to go around it's stomach, not too tight, but tight enough that he can't wriggle out of it.
  6. i'm sure the fry will love those rocks with all their tiny holes/caves
  7. nice. he is quite dark compared to mine. do you know if it is a male or female?
  8. probably better than putting a knife in a kids uncoordinated hand
  9. pretty sure it was imitating sea gulls? the head banging cockatoo was awesome.
  10. there seemed to be a lack of a decent /buy/sell/trade/etc facebook page for people in auckland that keep fish. so i made one. here it is, would be lovely if you would join, even if you are not in auckland. https://www.facebook.com/AucklandFishkeepers
