  1. Liam, where did you get your dragon stone from?
  2. Perhaps there is a link between IT minded people and forum posting rather than fishkeepers per se. A non IT person here, tho DH is.
  3. :sml2: The tooth fairy for our area is going a bit senile and the tooth often has to be left out for a few days before she remembers what to do with it
  4. Showed this photo to my 5yo, and he said "WOW where did you get that mum?" I said "it just landed on my fingers, so I took a photo. Thats what I do all day when you are at school, catch baby dragons and let them go" He looked at me and said "PLEASE mum can you show me one tomorrow after school?!" So cute when they believe that their mum can catch dragons
  5. the Great Spirit Bluff Falcons have babies now too, think they hatched last week.
  6. I would think that cooking them would cause organ failure that could take a little while to kill them. JMO
  7. It was cold last night, and a small tank, maybe the temp fluctuated too much before the heater clicked on again?? Still, quite weird, I wouldn't have thought even that would be enough to lose them both at once. Unless one died first for whatever reason and caused an ammonia spike for the other (but again, wouldn't think it would happen overnight?) How long had they been in the tank for? Bummer, that does suck :tears:
  8. ouch! You definitely have it tougher than me. We can be old nana's together
  9. Beautiful fish DavidR! Which HFF is it? I will say hello to yr fish next time I go
  10. Its amazing what they can do to hide. I was trying to catch newly hatched guppy fry from a tank I was emptying and the buggars kept burrowing into the gravel to escape. Even when the water was almost fully drained they would find a droplet to get into and then a couple of stones to hide between. Will be watching with interest to see what they grow into!
  11. Thanks for the thought, but have high hopes that I will be able to walk soon. I also have a husband that I could ask for help, but sometimes its just not worth the grumbling .
  12. OTT pfft.... they are my babies. The tank is a small volume of water (three quarters of a 50L tank), the temp is up around 28-29 degrees or so in the gourami fry tank. Would rather err on side of caution. The other tank houses a female that would be hard to replace so she gets special care too You men can do it the cold water way, I will do it the nurturing girly way every time 8) And cold water only is just no fun at all!
  13. :sml1: I am thankful you were particular with your spelling livingart :sml1:
  14. :sml2: might be beyond my abilities to video it as well. Tho I am sure the neighbours were wondering what the hell I was doing
  15. I have torn my calf muscle and have been on crutches for a few days. Have two tanks downstairs in the garage that needed topping up, but am home alone with several stairs in the way, with no access to hot water downstairs (only cold). Just managed to put water in both tanks just now and am so pleased with myself I will share with you my methods. Noting that it is not possible to carry a bucket while on crutches and only one leg, let alone down steep stairs or even think about carrying FULL bucket - and then, you say, how on earth did you do THAT? WELL. Take note of my awesomeness. Challenge no.1: Carrying bucket with required hot water down stairs to lower cold tap. I got a bucket with about 1/5 full of hot water + prime. Tied a long rope to it. Carefully hobbled to the door and tied rope around railing and lowered it carefully down about 6m or so to the cold tap below. Secured the rope so bucket was suspended in place next to the tap. Hobbled downstairs. Perched myself carefully next to the tap and filled the bucket (rope taking most of the weight). Here, slight snag, had not tied the rope so it was easily undone at the bottom end as would have had to climbed stairs again to untie rope. No mind, simply got the scissors from pocket and cut the rope. Mental note to do quick release knot next time. Challenge no.2: Carrying FULL bucket of perfect temperature water from tap to fish tank at back of garage: Found old storage bin on wheels. Moved to edge of garage. Swung bucket from tap to storage bin, and on crutches, kicked/ steered bin on rolling wheels to back of garage. Sat on little chair and had a rest. Then lifted bucket and put in fish tank. VOILA!! I am a genius.
  16. I know, I have seen this before Pretty amazing
  17. Interesting, and entertainingly written :slfg:
  18. Consumer mag this month says fire is the cheapest.
  19. I think it would work for a little while, especially if you had low stocking numbers. But if you need I have a spare eheim 2010 (should to 80L easy)) sitting unused if you want to borrow for a while to ease the transition or to buy time until you get an external. do it... It is a snowballing thing tho, bigger tank... then bigger filter, longer lights.... then need more plants...... and more fish to fill the empty space ....$$$$$$$$$$$
  20. +1 Easter show is a disappointment, North Head has a great view of AK as well as the war tunnels, there is a nice walk over the top and another around the base. Cornwall Park is one of my favourite places
  21. my eheim 2224 I have to put my hand on it to see if its even working. Have to put my ear right up against it to hear anything. SUPER quiet
  22. My kids (5yrs & 8yrs) love reading nature non-fiction fact books as much as fiction.... So as long as you have great photos/pictures, you don't necessarily have to make it a "storybook". Depends what you want to do, definitely still a market for non-fiction nature books. As a guide, my 8 yo daughter has read the Harry Potter series at least twice, so don't worry too much about dumbing down the vocabulary (Lynley Dodd uses words like "cacophany" for preschoolers ) and focus on finding an interesting and lively voice for your book.
