Hello All From The Wellywood Shire
Hi Ballistic. Good to talk to you in chat tonight

Killies wanted
I think a few members of the Upper Hutt club keep and breed killies.

do fish get depressed???
Also, if the fish were bought together and one has died of possible old age, it is a good chance the other is the same age. If they were a pair for a long time it is quite possible he is missing her.

My fishtank repair job.........lol
We are overdue for a re-seal then as I believe our main tank has been set up for almost 14 years, plus we used it as a wardrobe for a couple of years before that.

do fish get depressed???
It could be that conditions are not correct for him so he is not well. Can you give us some information as to what size tank he is in, what is in with him, water temp, pH, ammonia and nitrate levels?

We didn't make him the national breeding coordinator for nothing now did we?

Hello
Welcome to the fishroom! What sort of killies do you have and where did you find them? They are not often found in shops. Many killies do better in a species only tank. Good luck breeding enough to cover fish food expenses By the way, that plec might live 18 years  Won't need a university education though. Goldfish can live for 30 years.

The registering refers to FNZAS members only carla. The FNZAS has a breeding scheme and competition to encourage people to breed their fish. When fry reach 1 month, and they have at least 10 of them, the club breeding coordinator will verify the numbers then send off to the FNZAS for a certificate for that member. The member gets different points depending on whether they have bred the species before or not. At the end of the year the points are tallied and the member with the most points wins the breeding trophy.

Thanks for the photos nico. Can you post them here for all to see? They will certainly go into the next magazine along with the fantastic article that I am sure is currently being written by someone who went on the hunt

Wohooooooooooo I Got Eggs
Check the floor then. Hasn't anyone told you that turning the tank upside down is not a good idea!?

Wohooooooooooo I Got Eggs
Fins crossed for you Trudy! Don't count your angels before they've hatched
-
Angelfish
I am concerned. If they were angels in the tank, how did you get baby goldfish? Just kidding

My Melanochromis is Holding
Congratulations! Sorry but I can't help with information

Two questions.........
Another possibility is to add extra piles under the floor where the tank is going to be.

Sponge filters are great for tanks with small fry. Wow, your fish have noticed it's spring! Must be something in the water. Keep us posted on progress

Even when you allow for the fact Jackx3 is speaking Aussie dollars, it sounds like a real good deal. Go for the AquaClears Jack! I have a sponge in mine and fill it up with Siporax. Never use ammo things or carbon.

Two questions.........
You could be right Alan. I just remember reading somewhere that willow was toxic to fish. Intrigued me as most streams have willows in them. Chris there is nothing wrong with having 2 heaters in the tank. They will only switch on if the temp drops below their setting so it is not costing you any more. Handy if one dies too as the other will keep going with no harm to the fishes. Just remember, if you need a heater in a hurry, pinch one from the 3ft! They aren't mini ones are they (150s)?

filtration
AquaClears are easy to keep clean too, less mucking about than the canisters. I have an AquaClear 300 running on my 4ft, along with a large Eheim wet/dry unit. Like Ira, I think $20 sounds like a very small filter. I don't know the flow rates so don't know which AC does 570lph. You need at least a 300 or 500 in the AquaClears. They have it written on them starting with the mini then I think they go up as 200, 300, 500 but don't know if this refers to lph.
