  1. Hi All I have noticed that one of my Melanochromis is Ovigerious and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get a good survival rate of the fry as this is the first time I've had mouthbrooders spawn. Thanks for any HELP
  2. I seeded my wet/dry by cleaning a sponge filter in the tank and seems to have worked as I now have 18 fish in the tank and tests come up a 0ppm for amonia (don't know if I spelt that right. I'm guessing no) but anyhow its all good. All the fish are as happy as all buzzing round scrapping eating digging and all that stuff that africans love to do.
  3. Would be interested to hear how oscar shelia would do it......
  4. have got 10 25mm electric yellow labs doing the cycling.
  5. I have a unusual question which is common for me.... I have just set up a 500 litre malawi tank and has been cycling for about a week. The other night I noticed that the last chamber of the wet/dry where the pump returns the water back to the tank has a thick layer of protein or something on top of it. It is clear and not really visable but when there is any bubbling or the like the bubbles just remain there. Can anyone help me with wot this is and if its a problem how I can stop it from happening. Thanks for any help in advance. Steve )
  6. How the hell do you catch julie marleri fry had several sessions and still have an empty net and grow out tank. Any suggestions gratefully acccepted.
  7. Can anyone help with any info on how schist affects water chemistry??? Thanks in advance for any help. :-?
  8. Hi Peter How big are these limestone chips and where do you get them from as they could be a good substrate for my african tank also what are they worth
  9. Hi All I was thinking of using sand as substrate in my african tank but have heard stories about being anaerobic and causing gas that can stink and kill the fish. Can anyone help me with anything they know on using sand as a substrate. Cheers for any Help Steve
  10. Oh O.K Well now I know it won't annoy me anymore. Thanks again for the tip on gravel. By the way the plant tank you helped me with is growing really well and all the fish seem to be happy the kribs have even spawned. The Cabomba, well thats what I think it is is doulbling in height every few days have had to cut it down three times in three weeks.
  11. Thanks Warren will give them a try. By thye way what is your Avatar a picture of everytime I see it I have a real close look and can never figure it out???
  12. Thanks Pegasus Is the gravel smooth as alot of the stuff they use is quite sharp isnt it??? I want it for african cichlids who as you know like to do a bit of the digging and also catch food in it so do want anything they will hurt themselves on.
  13. Where I can find any Melanchromis Johanni (electric blue johanni) or Psuedotropheus Socolofi (powder blue) these are Malawi Mbuna. If so please message me. From anywhere in New Zealand is O.K if the person is prepared to courier fish.
