python siphon
Mine works well but is slow. I can put up with that though. Lousy water pressure (and a tank too far from the tap) means I have to siphon out into a barrel as the pressure is not enough to lift the crud from the substrate but the tank is next to the front door so I only have to drag it a short distance to empty. I can refill using the python but it is very slow. You have to remember to keep an eye on it! Easy to get involved doing something up the other end of the house and forget you are filling a tank with water.

photo printers
It isn't the actual printer cost you need worry about so much, it is the running costs which vary greatly. The cheaper printers are all a lot more expensive to run than the dearer models. The ink is more expensive and they use more of it.

photo printers
We sell mostly Canon printers these days Cees as they do a good job and are cheaper to run than others. Even so, it is actually cheaper to put your photos on CD and take them to print at a photo shop. Many of these places have a DIY section for this starting around 60c per print. Proper photo paper for inkjets is around $2 per sheet then you have the ink prices on top of that. We sell a lot of the Canon Pixma ip4000. It has 3 separate colours, a large black and a small black for photographic use. They do have more expensive models. We like it though as Canon running costs are generally lower than Epson and the printer is relatively quiet. We have not had a Canon go bung on us yet - very reliable. We sell them for around $320.00 but I am sure we can do a deal for you. Will send you an email about it Although I have a laser, I used to print photos on the inkjet (we have an HP 970cxi but HPs are too expensive to buy consumables for these days) as the colour matching was better. Since getting the Kyocera laser the colour matching is much improved though. You are right though, a colour laser is not within your stated budget.

Whhooopeeee
Can you remove any of the other fish? I suggest you leave a light on in the tank too (or a lamp near the egg end of the tank) as they haven't a hope of protecting the eggs in the dark. Both will protect the eggs hopefully. If you can get the parents to look after them it is good. It can be done! Sometimes takes them 6 or 7 dpawns to get the idea though. If this lot get eaten, separate the pair from the other fish and hopefully they will spawn again with more success.

finally got another tank
I get red xs too . What a tease!

how can I tell what sex my baby guppies are
You can't sex them until they are a bit bigger. In males, the anal fin under the body is long and pointed but on the female this fin is short and round. Tail shape isn't an indicator of sex

Music and the Aquarium!
We had a fishtank sittng on top of one of our speakers for a number of years with no discernible adverse effects on the fish. The speakers are 930H x 460W x 420D and when you turn up the 1812 Overture you can feel the vibrations through the wooden floor! Fish didn't turn a hair (or a scale). They also take no notice of the Blues Brothers played at a loud volume to be heard over the vacuum cleaner

Planted Tanks
Melanotaenia - I thought it was most likely C pontederiifolia too but wondered if anyone else had any other thoughts. The other plant is red rotala.

Planted Tanks
Here is my lounge tank. It was recently heavily pruned of plant and just starting to grow back. It is a 4ft tank with 4 daylight fluoros and no CO2 or anything added. If anyone can tell me what the last plant is I'd appreciate it. I have one or two ideas but...

Problem regarding divider
Not sure if they would be safe to use. What is the divider made out of? Could the netting be stapled to the frame? Freshwater only of course. Or stitched.

Dark Vertical Bars
Fish vary in colour depending on their mood and condition. Although the bars do not mean they are ready to mate, it might mean they are in better (or worse) condition that before so have coloured up that little bit more, making the bars more noticeable.

Do you guys know about ImageShack?
PK - Yahoo won't let you link to other places. I use photobucket too - in fact I just bought their deal which allows unlimited pics. I can see imageshack being useful for those one off - what is this fish? or what is wrong with this fish? type pics Kim - I have seen that bathroom sink and thought it wasn't a bad idea. We will be doing up our bathroom and it got me thinking...

star grass or some thing long and thin
I suggest the FNZAS survey has a spelling error as all my books have it the other way.
-
Brown Algae
6 weeks isn't long Janet. Give the tank time to establish and the plants to grow and that algae will disappear.

At what size to Bristlenose cats begin to breed?
They'll start when they are ready wok The dads are good protective parents of the eggs but ignore the fry usually.

Pretty sure my baby guppies have white spot~!
It takes time for whitespot to go through their life cycle phillz. Have you tested the tank water? What are the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings? What size is the tank by the way? Keep up with the medication and siphon the bottom of the tank to get rid of extra cysts.
