  1. I agree with Fay. We want pics NOW Warren
  2. Very nice! Thanks for persevering
  3. I wondered what was going on at one end of the tank and discovered these 2 angels... have had a thing going and have laid eggs on the internal Shark filter They won't last long as I haven't taken the 10 rosy barbs out yet so I doubt there will be any fry. I know I could remove the filter and raise them artificially but I am all for letting the parents do it. They might spawn again after I have taken the barbs out. Besides, I really don't need a whole lot of angels!
  4. gonowillie      Good word Alan! They are both of the Poeciliidae family and look very similar in shape to a guppy.
  5. I can't remember suphew. I think it was to do with the thickness of them and uneven surface causing stress on the tank. Under a waterbed bladder isn't a problem as it is so flexible. They are also possibly harder to keep the temperature correct.
  6. I don't see why a heatpad should be more expensive to run as heat rises. I have emailed you Shae. Can't say I have ever noticed an extra cost on my power bill for the tanks but I only have 2 4ft tanks running with 4 double flouros in a well insulated house.
  7. Ahh but the fish are worth it aren't they?
  8. I would imagine most people with a 17" CRT or 15" LCD will be running at 1024 x 768. Probably the most common setting these days. Those lucky enough to have a larger monitor will be running at a higher resolution. However, for pics posted on the web, we always resize to 640 x 480 for the pic size. This minimises download time without making them too small to see with good resolution on the screen. For those with dial-up connections the download time is most important. Also pics that size, when sent as email attachments, display nicely within the message so you don't have to scroll to see the whole image.

    New Plants

Diverjohn it is common for plants to develop a brown algae as a new tank matures. Do what you have been, cut off the yucky leaves (highly technical fish keeping term ) as the new ones grow. The brown algae should eventually disappear over time once the plants establish themselves.
  10. Not to mention barbs. I may have tons of rosy barbs available soon as I am about to put 10 adult rosys into an outside, well planted, paddling pool. (though I don't want to count my barbs before they have spawned)
  11. The sponge idea is good breakaway. The tank cycle? I would suggest about one month but don't quote me
  12. Thanks Warren but I meant it scanned as a text file . Grant reckons the scanner should do it so I will try again. All it gives me is heiroglyphics
  13. Welcome John. I fear you are right about the plec. Nicely planted tanks and plecs don't mix

    corydoras

Albinos of any sort are the same as the originals except lacking colour pigment.
  15. Never had to use any products like that as our water is perfectly suitable for aquaria. No chlorine in the water so no need for that stuff.
  16. Thanks Alan. The tank inside is 24C
  17. Grant wrote one Warren. It is in the Aug 98 AW page 36. My scanner isn't coping with OCR at the moment so I would have to retype it. Can you scan a copy and send it to me? Bits may have to be updated or changed now. I know the company mentioned has moved so the address is wrong. I would need to check they still exists and can do the job.
  18. How are you keeping the containers warm in the meantime?

    Rivulus's

Are you an importer or do you know one? Just curious.
  20. OK give me time to find and copy the original article I wrote explaining it all.
  21. It is only complicated if you do not have an electrical background My husband built ours and has made 3 so far. All are still going well and the oldest would be coming up 10 years old and never had a problem with any of them. The biggest problem may be finding a thermostat.
  22. It is my understanding the waterbed pads are not safe to use for this purpose. I can PM instructions if you need them.
  23. Is an overnight temperature of 8C (and the occasional 5 - 6) OK for the barbs or should I wait until it warms up further? Day temperatures are around 24C
