  1. Fish are tolerant of quite a range Anthony and his temp is not too high. Mine is higher in this hot weather and the fish are fine. As the temp rises, the oxygen level drops so this must be fixed.
  2. Hope you get the downloads to work. You aded something to the water then?

    2 black sharks

That's good to hear. I gather it very much depends on the sharks' personalities. Perhaps you have 2 females who are less aggressive. Did they also grow up together? That can make a difference too.
  4. Try adding an airstone. Possibly oxygen levels are a bit low at that temp. The discus might be sulking as a result of the major plant removal. Adding Stresscoat wouldn't hurt but I think the discus will perk up in a day or 2.
  5. How big is it chakuna (who I think is a he)? Is it a top, middle or bottom feeder?

    Stone-in-mouth!

Some fish will survive a few hours out of water Caper. My bristlenose certainly managed over 2 hours when I stripped that tank and didn't see him in the huge clump of plant I hauled out and left on a tray on the floor. That was about 5 years ago and he is still alive and well back in the tank.
  7. This thread has gone way off topic and split in all sorts of directions (and got personal again) so I am locking it.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Or, if you do, have somewhere else to put it if things go wrong.
  9. The game is just that - a game for fun. I believe Chakuna has a genuine query in wanting to find out what his particular fish actually is. I will leave this here so if he comes up with a fuller description or pic, someone might manage to work out what he has, but will delete the thread in the fun section.
  10. There is already an extensive thread on setting up cold water marine in the saltwater section. Check it out.
  11. I just had the AquaClear on mine for 2 years with no problems (I never use carbon).
  12. and you managed to get her to pose and smile for the camera!
  13. Ask for some in the trade section. Hopefully a local will have a culture.
  14. Is there something in the saltwater that affects brain function? Layton I would have thought if those places don't have it, it isn't available. Ring a builder and ask them for a source.
  15. Welcome to The Fishroom. I have kept cold water rock pool marines myself but had major problems with the heat. You need a chiller. I used soft sand and rocks from the place I gathered the critters (Kaikoura Coast) and used a hang-on-the-back AquaClear filter. My tank had anemones, sea cucumber, chitons, shrimps, rockfish, triplefins, various types of starfish and brittlestars plus a hermit crab. We also had a baby octopus for a while but he escaped and died a fluffy death-by-carpet.
  16. Could be constipated. Feed some green veges, especially shelled peas, and see if that helps.

    Noisy Pump

My filters all have built in pumps so I know nothing about them that I could recommend one to you.

    Sick guppies :-(

Carbon re-releases all the stuff back into the water if you don't change it and can cause major problems if this happens. I never use it. It is useful to remove medication or tannin discolouration but otherwise it is not necessary.
  19. I have mini vallis in my tank and I vacuum over the top of it no problem.

    Hey Everyone

    Hi from me too. :bounce:

Smaller fish will often show signs of stress (clamped fins etc) before the bigger ones. Check your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels.
  22. Welcome to the fishroom. Nice tank. You are right, there is no such thing as overfiltering but there is such a thing as too much current for some species. As Alan suggests, a spraybar would help. Turning it down will not make it any less efficient. My 4ft African currently has two Fluval 404's, an Eheim wet/dry and a Jebo 801. Plus it usually also has an internal cansiter or 2 as spares in case of emergencies. Only have that many as I wanted to keep the filters going after dismantling other tanks. The big ones all have spray bars.
