    Whoops

    Doesn't matter
  2. Hi and welcome. Good to hear you are enjoying your hobby. I hope it expands as it is going to with the fish you have chosen. Some of them are going to outgrow your tank A 1.2m is ok for juvenile silver sharks but a 1.8 minimum will be needed.
  3. Try a pea or two (shell removed) in case it is constipated. The rounded, shorter goldfish types often have swim bladder problems. Did you change the type of food recently?
  4. Love that driftwood in the middle. Where did you get it?
  5. Check the plants at the back. When I stripped out a lot from my heavily planted tank the other day I discovered a bit of algae on the thickly tangled ones from the back
  6. Ahh, the minimalist look eh?
  7. To me, since it started with a bubble (I assume the sticking out scales were from the bubble), and you mention wounds, it isn't dropsy. I think the fish has just developed secondary infections due to the abovementioned problems. I think Melafix is the thing to try (but can't find my bottle to read what it treats so check first). Orandas can develop swim bladder problems easily too, in this case as a result of the other problems.
  8. Dead spots can form in the substrate, particularly under rocks or wood. If you moved these during the water change it is possible the bad bacteria that had been trapped underneath has now made its way to the surface, hence the smell. Are the fish still behaving as normal? I would be doing small water changes until the smell went away.
  9. A tank ought to have a slight "earthy' smell. I wonder if you had some "dead spots" in your substrate and they were disturbed when you did the big water change.
  10. lfs should sell meds that say on the bottle that they are for internal parasites. Sorry, I am not up on the actual names of meds
  11. 2 years is a spring chicken (or fish), not old. I suspect internal parasites.
  12. You either need your own facility or know someone with one who would be willing to help. Others have tried to find someone without success
  13. Can you describe the smell? Does it smell like dead fish? Swamp? Roses?
  14. I'm not objecting to you posting pics here, just pointing out the other thread
  15. A lot of factors affects fish longevity. How well they were fed when fry How well they are fed during their life Water quality Water temperature The bigger the fish, the longer it lives generally. My neons lived 5 years
  16. All looking good but I would remind you all we have the Freshwater Tanks section for posting tank pics etc.
  17. If it was easy (and cheap) a lot more of us would be doing it. You need a LOT of money and a quarantine facility to start.
  18. PM me your name and address and I will see what I can do.
  19. I keep a current index here Alan but at 20 pages it is a bit big to add to the magazine itself. Anyone who wants an updated index (from March 1991) may PM or email me for a copy. If too many people want me to do this though I wil have to start charging for them

    This or that

Neither but BKs if pushed white bread or brown?
  24. Is it near the anus? Could it be a blockage? Fish are prone to tumours, hope this isn't one

    wellington pond

It depends on the type of goldfish. The fancy ones can't move fast enough to catch the minnows.
