Hi Dan0 and welcome. I read somewhere (aha, found it in the marine beginners guide sticky in the saltwater section) that canister filters aren't so good for marine set-ups. The reason is that nitrate reducing bacteria cannot function in a highly aerated environment, and use of these filters will result in a build up of nitrate to levels that are harmful to many reef dwelling creatures.

Sounds like cyanobacteria which isn't actually an algae so algae stuff won't get rid of it. I don't know how CO2 affects it. Usually I suggest blacking out tank for a few days but not sure if you can do that with CO2 running. As a final resort you can use Erythromycin to get rid of it but it is a prescription only medicine and doesn't help if you don't know the cause so it may return.

I would suspect damage more than disease in this case.

My daughter out law has had guppies dying recently for no reason. All other fish in the tank are fine but the guppies are dying like clockwork. They gasp at the surface then die.

3 - 4 weeks ought to see them starting to attach. I don't tie them, I jam a few roots into splits in the wood.

2 inches of gravel is fine. Try adding more live plants and see how the water goes. How much water are you changing?

I hadn't removed any runners until I pulled all the plant out so I could see where each began and how many there were.

My Java grows equally well in dark places and right under the lights. In fact, it tends to grow up and out of the water where the exposed leaves get burned. Doesn't seem to worry it.

If you are sticking to goldfish I would rather see them in a pond but if you must have them in a tank a 100L would be big enough for 2 or 3 at the most, and not comets. Goldfish grow large and are messy. They are also good at nibbling the roots of plants so kill off the rest of the leaves. I think your green water is more a result of the amount of waste your fish is producing and no live plants.

NEVER add meds indiscriminately, or "just in case" to a tank. Wouldn't want the parasites etc to build up immunity to meds.

Quite likely since I do not use fertiliser or CO2 :lol: Tank (4ft) has 4 flouros on it.

If they have not ground down the whiskers too far they will grow back.

Carp pox is like warts and doesn't harm the fish, or make it unwell. I too am wondering if they have damaged themselves during spawning and have secondary fungal infections. Hard to tell from the pics.

That is the one I got from you evil and I thought it was a red one (cos of the red colour under the leaves). Mine is obviously too busy getting bigger to produce hundreds of runners :roll:
