  1. I thought releasing rudd anywhere in NZ was an offence

    Filters

I vacuumed mine with no problems. I just wasn't super thorough about it.
  3. Some idiot(s) keep releasing rudd etc into the local Taylor Dam here causing havoc

    Filters

That will be so with any filter. In a power cut the bacteria start dying very quickly without the water going through. I am sure you will find out in 2 days Mel It isn't anything particularly interesting to anyone but me
  5. I haven't got any rare medical condition (that I know about anyway  ) but do have a rare blood type. My mum and one brother have even rarer types than mine. The rest of the family appear to be commons 8) My son was born with congenital heart defects (nothing to do with my rhesus negative blood problems) and is now fit and healthy after 2 lots of open heart surgery at ages 16 weeks and 3 yrs, but when he was in Wgtn Hospital (before he was sent on to Greenlane - Starship didn't exist then) he had a lot of student Drs asking to listen to his heart as they had not heard his particular defect before and they were keen to do so as it was the only way they would know what it sounded like.

    Filters

I love undergravels for small tanks (up to 2ft) but not for goldfish. Goldfish are messy and continually digging in the substrate which upsets the plates. They are suitable for small tanks for small fish that don't nosey through the substrate. I have never had to strip a tank to clear out an undergravel. They are supposed to amass gunk under the plates - that is where the good bacteria live and work. It is good gunk and not meant to be cleared out. You need at least 5cm of substrate on top if you want to grow plants well though. They are good for fish that prefer slower moving water as they don't produce the flow you get from canisters. I prefer them to internals as they are out of sight, except for the uplift, and don't take up space like the internals. Sponge filters are great in fry tanks as the fry don't get sucked up the filter.

    Plant

The last lot I got for the breeding ponds I then planted in the goldfish pond. It is still in there growing. You do better with it in flowing water though.

    Hello

Ah but the trip was worth it wasn't it? Welcome to the forums. Please update your profile and add your location. Have you considered joining your local aquarium club? (assuming there is one)
  9. All excellent advice (says she who works for a GP and deals with patients and the public health system all the time). Keep copies of everything and never fail to ask questions. It may help to take someone with you to your appointment too as they may later remember something the specialist said that you had forgotten or may think to ask something you didn't. Make sure you confirm your specialist appointments too. Be grateful you aren't dealing with ACC!

    Nursery tubs

Try Indac. They make all sorts, including those ones I think.

    Plant

I gather oxygen weeds from the local river. Free so it doesn't matter if the goldfish eat them.
  12. Rozski you are going to have to enter the next photo competition!
  13. I should have added we only tested pH kits, not the others
  14. That was our club. Yes, all tests read the same no matter what sort or age. Strips, drops and electronic.
  15. I very rarely go to the movies but recently went with kids to see Madagascar 2. It made me laugh. Gotta love the penguins! [i]"Do you take each other for better or worse?" "Better please" I also went to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Still not sure whether I can say I liked it or not but it was thought provoking and sure stayed in my mind for a long time. Excellent acting from all cast and the special effects were fascinating. Could have been a lot shorter though as it was 3 hrs. I've never seen Brad Pitt in a movie (told you I don't go often) but was very impressed with his acting ability in this one. Can see why he gets nominated for awards.
  16. It isn't that easy. There is a process you must go through to get permission to work here.
  17. Have you disabled the anti virus software while doing the installation?

    Temperatures

Just did some temperature taking out of curiosity. Outside temperature 32C Paddling pools (with odessas and golden barbs spawning) 27C goldfish pond 22C (had a top up yesterday) lounge 29C lounge tank 26C. It is built into a wall unit so seems to keep a lower temperature. Computer room 26C (air con recently turned on. Was 28C)
  19. Whichever you think would be most benefit. I use as much ceramic media as possible.
  20. What OS are you using? When you say the download doesn't work, in what way? Does it download then not install or what? Is there an error message? Does it complete the installation and then not work?
  21. I think it shows she is starting to show her true colours after being a little pale from the bag and trip home. The line is called the lateral line.
  22. Wait for others to agree first before thanking me. I know it is rare but I am occasionally - wrong
