  1. No as he would lose his no claims. The phone is not worth that much more than the excess I don't think
  2. I do have a large pump running a filter and waterfall. Water movement helps keep downthe algae as it can't stagnate. They are not a requirement though, depends on the size of the pond, location (ie how much sun etc) and number of plants
  3. I find it funny I recognise all of Jim's choices but have only heard of one of Dixon's and one of supasi's  I prefer single songs to artists but enjoy; Bachman Turner Overdrive Deep Purple Neil Diamond ABBA   The Monkees BeeGees Don McLean Manic Opera and some Red Hot Chilli Peppers
  4. I am getting a slime on top of my oxygen weed where the water current can't get it
  5. Do you know anyone with quarantine facilities? Otherwise it will cost you thousands.
  6. Let me know if your mag doesn't turn up Jim and I will send another
  7. I imagine the tape is just for looks - if you like that look
  8. I don't feel so bad now  We are aware the life of the phone will be compromised but at least it goes for now.
  9. Not sure what age they stop that but it can be a sign of them having been weaned too early I believe. She should grow out of it.
  10. I understood the black markings were from poor breeding too (nothing to back that up and can't remember where I heard it) :-?
  11. I gave away the fish I bred last time. Not sure what is happening with them this year as we have had such weird weather! 33C one day then 16C then next, dropping to 8C at night. Not out usual February weather pattern. I thought all the adult fish had died actually as I could not see them but this morning actually spotted 5 golden barbs still swimming about. No idea about the odessas as they are very hard to see.
  12. I agree with Stella and would add you have more chances of springing a leak with so many more joins :-?
  13. It was before they headed of to the Blues Brews and BBQs beer festival so I don't know how much he had consumed (the other guy that is, not my son. He actually came home from the festival seemingly still sober). We have dried it out and it now works! Has a couple of blobs in the corners from extra water but otherwise still usable.

    Phosphate

Yeah ring your council and they can tell you. Our water has high phosphate levels.
  15. ... think it is funny to push unsuspecting people into swimming pools? My son has been here for the weekend and was at a BBQ when someone ran through pushing in several of those near the pool. As a result he has probably lost his new cell phone (drying out but no guarantee it will go) and trying to dry out all the stuff from, and including, his wallet - and clothes  No he has no idea who the guy was and will be returning to ChCh tomorrow so hasn't got the time to follow it up
  16. You can thaw it if you want. Just drop it in a small container and wait. It won't take long. You know when it is thawed as it will look like an odd coloured puddle. Fish love mozzie larvae. My goldfish in the pond seem to ignore them though. They also ignore all the other critters zipping about, including water boatmen, backswimmers and dragonfly larvae. I think they are too well fed on flakes and pellets
  17. But if they PM with questions the rest of us can't see. By posting in the forum some questions may be asked that someone else wanted to know the answer to as well!

    MOVING

What size are the tanks and fish? Small tanks (2ft or less) can be emptied to an inch or two of water above the substrate and the gravel and plants left in. Small fish may also be left in. Bigger fish require bags or other containers. I have 30L barrels with water tight lids. I can empty the tank water into the barrels (it is good to save as much original water as possible) then drop the fish in too. Two hours isn't too long. Get polystyrene boxes to transport them to keep them warm (or cold). You will have the heater going in the vehicle to the temperature shouldn't be a major problem. A plastic fizz bottle filled with hot water then wrapped in a towel will work as a heat pack if you think it necessary. If you end up bagging the fish, do not put too many per bag. Neon sized you can put 4 - 6 per bag. Platy size I would have 2 - 4 per bag. Gourami size I would put 1 or 2 per bag and anything bigger should be solo. Make sure you have 1/4 water to 3/4 air in the bags. If you have several bags in a box, pack scrunched up newspaper or towels between them and make sure they saty upright. You do not want them to fall over in transit as some fish might end up squashed in a corner. Larger tanks need to be totally emptied so you do not stress the glass as you lift and carry them. Putting them onto a board is a good idea as that keeps them even. If you are able to set up some tanks in the new place ahead of time it will be so much easier. Keep the filter media wet at all times and they should be fine.

    Pearlscale

The characteristic feature of the pearlscale is its thick, domed scales with pearl-like appearance. Its body is round and similar to a golf ball. The finnage may be long or short. They are prone to swim bladder problems.
  20. If everything is fine there is no need to do tests. I can't remember the last time I did any on my tank. Years ago I think  I did do a pH test just before I stripped the tank, out of curiosity.
  21. I get that error if I try to post more than one pic per post :-? Don't worry about notifying anyone, they already know about it 8)
  22. At the top right of the page is the User Control Panel. Click on that then look for Profile at the left side. This has a number of options for you to play with.
  23. Always remember we all have differing opinions. If you like it then good. Don't get upset if someone says they don't like it You asked for feedback and how to improve it so here goes... Your lovely rock pile doesn't match the substrate so it tends to stand out. Of course it doesn't help that it is newly set up so still startlingly white! When I looked at the pics, the first thing that hit me was that rock pile. That might be partly the way the pic was taken though. Is that an internal filter hiding behind the rock pile? It is good to hide as much equipment as possible but check the rocks aren't stopping a good flow of water from the filter outlet. The 2 plants, with red tips, in front of the shipwreck are tall bunch plants and would be better at the back of the tank. They also need to be closer together. What is the blue thing sticking up in the front? I can't make it out :-? Keep an eye on your fish size with that shipwreck. It looks like it has quite small holes. As the fish grow, some may damage themselves trying to swim into places they no longer fit, or get stuck. Have you got the gravel sloping slightly so it is a bit higher at the back than the front? Doing this provides an optical illusion and will make the tank look deeper than it actually is. It will also help some of the crud drop to the front for easier removal during maintenance. Overall you are on the right track and doing well for a first effort. As the plants grow it will look different and you will probably want to move a few things. That is half the fun of an aquarium. It is always changing and there is always room for improvement (unless you are Takashi Amano  ) Some people are good at landscaping - I am not one of them
