A pond that size (about the same size as mine) you do not have to feed the goldfish at all as there will be plenty of live food for them, plus algae, to eat. I feed mine once a day over summer though as it is fun and a good time to check all the fish are looking healthy with no obvious wounds or fungus on them, although there is plenty of live food zipping about in the water. I also have to feed them before I mow the lawn or I get the giggles. As I move up and down the lawn beside the pond I find I have a large group of fish swimming beside me up and down as I go. It looks funny. :lol: As the temperatures cool I feed less often, then not at all over winter. Once the temperature drops below 10C the fish semi-hibernate and stop eating so it is not good to feed them over winter if you live in a colder area. They can develop digestive problems eating in colder temperatures.

You are doing the right thing. Our cat got worse and worse until we had to have her put down too. It was hard but it was harder to see she was in pain and distress. At that age the guinea pig is beyond treatment. You are being kind. The vet will also confirm you are doing the right thing

If this is a brand new never used before tank then I would just give it a rinse out with water to get rid of dust. You do need to fill it completely to check for leaks - preferably outside :lol:

I think he is slowly improving thanks Caper. On his second round of antibiotics now and it is slowly getting better. At least it isn't getting worse. He is still too sore to walk far but at least it ought to keep him out of trouble for a while :lol:

Caper, I think you have missed the kiwi sense of humour in yarimochi's post and have read it the wrong way. As to the bag issue. I don't think I have ever heard someone saying not to put the bag in the water. I think what has been said is not to mix the water in the bag with the tank water when you get it home. Someone who thinks those in the service industry should have a working knowledge of what they are selling has obviously never shopped in any of our chain electronic or appliance stores :roll: :lol:

They don't breed "like crazy" as much as guppies and mosquitofish. They also don't viciously attack everything else like the mosquitofish do.

They are shy. They didn't like thinking you were watching them

I have 2 siphons. One is 53cm plus 107cm of hose so a total reach of 160cm. The other siphon is 27cm with the same length hose so a total of 134cm.

Remember the longer the hose the less the suck. Too long and it wil not be able to lift the muck.

Getting that old food and poo out of the gravel is most important. Don't go overboard cleaning the filter as you don't want to destroy too much of the good bacteria in there or you will have a mini cycle to make matters worse!

Mine came in on another plant (I never chose it) and most of it gets itself entangled around the base of other plants before it manages to block the filter.

Dad is recovering but developed cellulitis on his leg as a result of whacking it on the table as he fell. The last two times he got this condition it turned to septicaemia and he ended up in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit). He is on antibiotics and being closely monitored. We told him last week he either had to die now or wait until we got home so he has to live now for at least another 2 months :lol:

It isn't a dumb question and my answer is... with difficulty! :lol: Java moss is a pain for wrapping itself around all sorts of things, especially filter inlets. Short of stuffing it into a hairnet or similar you just have to wrap it tightly around an object.
