  1. They are fascinating creatures and have an undeserved bad reputation (mostly). It must be depressing to have everyone say Eeeewwwww
  2. Better than he was but not good. Did all as suggested and he perked up for a few hours but is back to just sitting on the bottom. Not feeding so not pooing much now. At least he does move when they tap on the glass or put their hand in. I am at a loss as to what else to suggest. We took out water from the town supply in case it was a local problem but it didn't make a difference. Added salt and Stresscoat. Also tried Melafix.
  3. No thanks wok (although we appreciated it last time!) we won't have time tomorrow. Only 2 hours between flights and it will take that long to get processed  Grant and I (and my mum) are heading overseas. We have 4 days in Beijing then about 6 weeks in Scotland (tracing mum's family tree) and 4 days in Vancouver coming home. We get back just in time to attend the FNZAS conference at Rings Beach Queen's Birthday weekend :bounce: I will be posting a diary of our experiences here, whenever possible, with a link to my photobucket album. I did this when we were in Borneo a couple of years ago. As I take over 200 photos a day there will be plenty to see! Grant and mum have their cameras too
  4. One more sleep! The house sitter has fish feeding instructions. Bags are almost packed. :bounce:
  5. I did not open a can of worms. I merely asked who else enjoyed Nick Baker's Weird Creatures programme. I did not ask for a debate on who liked, or disliked, other presenters. I suggest you get back on topic and leave the subject of the Irwins alone. Since none of you know them personally your opinions on their motives, or behaviours, are moot. Since it is obviously a hot subject I will not be moving it into a separate thread either as I can see it getting out of hand very quickly.

    HI all

Hi and welcome. I am sure you will find room for more tanks

    Broken fishtanks

The swelling is creating stress and cracking the glass.

    Broken fishtanks

Consumer or community law office. I think you will find tanks come with warranties that don't cover things like this. Unless you can prove it broke due to a fault in manufacture, you don't have a case.
  9. Now you tell me!
  10. Nick wasn't on this Sunday! We had a repeat of some stupid car show trying to look like Top Gear. I had to look up Bear Grylls to see who you meant. His wife must be very understanding as they have 3 sons. Calling one Jesse is fine but I must say I feel sorry for Marmaduke and Huckleberry
  11. Please note E-Mycin is erythromycin E-Mycin is a trade name for it. There are many others but that is the most common in NZ. I just gave some roxithromycin to someone to try for their cyano. It is, like erythromycin, a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. The Dr who gave me some assured me it will work exactly like the E-Mycin. 8)
  12. A bit late but I agree with the others - leopardfish 8)
  13. Gee, some people are so easy! (not mentioning names)
  14. I assume you have organised someone to send me a report on the Show and pics for the Aug mag??? (May is printed, bagged etc ready to post while we are away)
  15. Oh yeah, I too have Finding Nemo and Sharks Tale
  16. Bud the wonder budgie imitates the phone ringing but is quieter so easy to distinguish him from the real thing! We used to have a wild magpie locally that imitated a phone too. You would be out at the clothes line and think it was your phone. Luckily for me, the phone he imitated had a slightly lower pitched ring to mine so it only took me a moment to listen and realise it was not my phone.
  17. Definitely cyano then. Pull off as much of it as you can, get as much out as you can, then do a complete blackout of the tank for at least 3 days minimum. Do not feed the fish during this time either. With a bit of luck that will be enough to kill it off. If not, you may have to resort to using E-mycin, a prescription only medication.
  18. Any of the small barbs, rasboras, danios and tetras. Watch out for fin nipping in some of the barbs though.
  19. Aquarian (and Grant is a Libra I think) Son and partner (who keep fish) are (wait while I look it up, I am not au fait with star signs  ) both Geminis.
  20. The only reason I have fishy decor is because people assume that I would like them - since I keep fish. As a result, I have... a collection of fine glass fishes in the lounge fish toys in the bath ceramic fish on the wall in the bedroom a very large emboidered fish from Bangkok in the lounge a fish that giggles when you hit it (a very disturbing concept) hanging in the dining room a large fish mobile in the bedroom a smaller fish mobile in the lounge some wooden fish standing on the top shelf in the kitchen a cuddly toy Dory a lovely sandstone carved fish sitting by the pond
  21. I have nothing against David Attenborough (but wouldn't mind having something against Nick  ), I was merely saying how much I was enjoying his series. I also enjoy the Attenborough programmes.
  22. Siporax is a trade name for some of the ceramic noodle media. Another is Ehfisubstrat (or something) by Eheim. I use both and would have one layer sponge or filter wool and the others with ceramic noodles. Scouring pads, hair curlers, straws etc all work too but have nowhere near the total surface area the ceramic rings have so are less efficient.
  23. Sex; female Age; 50 years young Married - Grant is interested in fishkeeping too and kids left home a few years ago YAY!!!
