after talking to a friend yesterday i realised that mum and dad hadnt done there thing this month so i put in another male to get the other male going as mum is so full of eggs she will pop if he didnt get his act together, well it worked he now is flirting with her again, i dont no men hahaha i took the other male out because dad was going to kill him if i keeped him in over night. fingers crossed they will lay more soon . babies are selling well i have only about 30 left to sell

sounds like she is missing her babies , you should have left the eggs with her they are good mums most of the time

thats why i use jbl pleco chips because you can keep it in for 24 hrs then just get some air tubing and suck it out , thats how i clean the bottom of there breeding boxes .

how long has it been since you cleaned the filter out? you shouldnt touch an external filter often, just clean it when the water flow slows down!!!!! not before like some people tell you to. some filters dont get cleaned for years , mine hasnt been touched for over 2yrs now and water is moving really well so i wont touch it until it slows down or i move what ever comes first :lol:

only change it when it becomes hard to clean out, but if you find your water isnt clear change it because a new pad can make all the difference

you can use a rubber band or fishing line or even nylon that you sew clothe with. when the plants are rooted on well just cut it off.

jbl pleco chips , they have 10% wood in them and dont come apart like most disks and can stay in the tank for 24hrs

ben ask brent he will tell you they are crosses (the reds) or look on the paper work, there have only been a few true reds come into nz and you guys havent had them. i havent seen the one in mount eden for months so i wouldnt no if it was stunted and i cant see that it would be any way,

its better than the pint of beer! one of my hire tanks had a drunked guy put it in oh and none of the fish got drunk lol i tell kids when they come in that the fish dont eat much and how would they like it if their mum or dad feed them lots and lots of food, most kids say sick , so they dont over feed them after that

its great to see someone asking lots of ?'s so dont ever feel like you are a nuisance! you arent you are useing this site for what it is ment to be and its nice to see because to many people are sceared to ask things because they think we will think they are silly but truth be told they are being silly as we all have been there and asked the same ?'s you are asking. you should join a club as you will get so much out of it and in time i think you will have so much to give back. as my dad always says the day you stop learning is the day you die.

dont put loaches in or red spot plecos they love plants . anything small is fine and you feed the fish a plant food then they leave the plants alone , as the plants grow you can put bigger fish in your tank

if you clean your tank every 2 weeks do a 20% water change , you dont clean clean the gravel you just tearn the top of it to keep it nice and add lots of cat fish .

sometimes it can discolour the water, if you put to much in of not enough gravel on top. what i do is put lots and lots of cat fish in my tanks then i never have to touch the bottom of the tank, corys are great at keeping the gravel clean

could be a few things , when you first set up a tank the gravel is dusty and the dust floats round the tank and in a week or two it goes clear (depending on the filter you have some times its days ) 2nd it could be over feeding.... rule of keeping fish there tummy is as big as there eye so dont do what it says on the box as they want you to over feed your fish. the brand of fish food can cloud the water, cheap stuff is just that cheap and not good for the fish and in the long run it costs you more .

we make tanks to order and have made lots with smoked glass back and sides , it does help if you have a light room, also you can get black , blue,green coloured glass for the tanks, when we do colour backs we sometimes have to buy of cuts of glass as its not cheep. black glass on the back looks great.

the red tape in getting them in is hard and you have to pay for them even if they die, the ones at jansens are not the true red they are a cross, i no the one at silverdale is growing well as brent feeds it alot. redwoods fish are alot better but , not that i have seen it but i no what his fish are like they are always well looked after and feed ,

i move peoples tanks all the time and what i do is i have big 20l bins and i put most of the water into those and then take the gravel and put it in a few (depending on the size of the tank) move that tank and set it back up asap, if you cant do it fast turn the heater down put it in the bin and put the filter in and you have time to breath, DONT WASH THE GRAVEL OR FILTER!!! and set the tank back up, just dont feed the fish to much for a few days and you should be fine, sometimes you might need to put white spot cure in just to be sure. oh and cycle works well to. happy moving, your lps should hire out a tank if you go there alot as i have done that.

you can just tell most shops but remember shops give discount because they want to not because its a right, i no a few shops have had problems with people going in and jumping up and down when they wanted a discount, that gives fish clubs a bad name. i give discount to members but i dont do it if someone yells it out in my shop, because then my customers get pissed of that i dont give it to them.

i got my clubs books today thanks carly i will be giving them to the members tomorrow or the next day!! the a/w is great!!!!! top job once again!!! now evertone now is the time to start writing something for the next a/w , i'm starting mine in the next few weeks thanks again carly for all the hard work you guys do 8)

welcome dont worry lots of people find it hard to keep fish to start with mainly because they put to many fish in at once or over feed oh yer and over clean.... keeping your hands out of the tank is lots better than having your hands in every 5min. go to a meeting at your local club as you will find you will meet people that have been in your shoes and have now keeped fish for years, also you get to make new friends that can help you with your tank and one day you will be able to help someone with their tank, and thats a great feeling look forward to seeing you round kim
