    hi

I love the Wild Cat family, out of them my favourites are the black panther and the Bengal Tiger, both majestic animals
  2. Mine is of my three glass catfish They are a treat to have. I want to get three more so they can school, but these three are pretty relaxed so I might skip on that idea
  3. Thanks all, that is what I did, and they are all still fine Sorry I am only replying now, but my washing machine, tv and laptop decided to break in the same week, so I am typing this on my husband's dinosaur aged computer :-? While waiting for Harvey Norman to fix my precious laptop
  4. I have fed my fish feeding blocks before for going away. I have even been gone for as long as a week and a half and they were fine. But that is when I only had the bristlenose, danio and swords, all of them eat algae wafer and feed at the bottom of the tank, however I have recently gotten some glass catfish and harlequins and they only seem to eat from the top. I also have a little tank full of fry, I have three guppy and the rest is swordtail fry. I know the swords fry would be fine since I have seen them eat from the bottom like their parents, but the guppy fry also only feed at the top. Could you please advice me what to do, we plan on leaving the 12th
  5. Ok, boy did we have drama We decided that my female sword is more important than the five guppy fry we have been keeping that came with our molly purchase, so we put her in the small quarantine tank and the guppies in the big tank. Needless to say all of us were upset when the other female started eating the guppies so we reversed our plan and saved them. All five, but then we thought ....wait a minute we just saw her devour one, how is this possible, well its because two of the fry is swords. So now I have five fry, three guppy and two swords and I have taken my biggest lunchbox and is using it as a make believe breeding trap. She is still very fat. How many babies do they usually get?
  6. Thanks adodge and Caryl. Gosh they make a person nervous if they hold their babies for such a long time. I will try and get a better photo of them as well, maybe from behind
  7. Jim do you know how long they usually are pregnant ? She has been like that forever, I am worried about both of them especially since the one in the photo is not the huge one
  8. I have two females that look the same, the one is just bigger than the other. I have one male only, He keeps on swimming up behind them and nudges them under their bodies, it seems to get to much for them as they try and hide away from him the whole time, but he always finds them :-? My females have been "pregnant for just over a month now, it could even be longer, everyone that sees them says they look pregnant, they have huge blackspots behind their tummies by their tales. They both poop very well, its permantly hanging out so I know its coming out alright. If they are pregnant how can I get them to drop their babies safely and can they die if they hold on to them too long. I have added a lot of fake plants so there is plenty of hiding spots. here is a pic of my male and one of the females, she is the one that is not as big as the other one http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii23 ... ntfish.jpg
  9. The Harlequins and Mollies are too hyper to get a pic of them Will wait for them to settle then I will show them to you too
  10. managed to get these guys on a photo
  11. I love pleco's and staring at the tank looking for them is the most fun LOL. I have thought of Angels but apparently they get attitudes the bigger they get, so I skipped them, especially since my danio's are the longfinned ones. I am not sure what hatches it, but I got some harlequins today, they are fun to watch especially since my remaining danio's try to school with them The fish person at Animates said that Gouramis get a bit nippy and territorial if they get bigger so I skipped them, I am deffinetly considering the rummynoses, they are quite cute. I bought some Harlequins (6) Black Mollies (3) and glass catfish (3) will get another 3 next week...they are a bit expensive LOL Thanks so much for both of your suggestions, it was greatly appreciated
  12. Hi there, I am a beginner with a 160 litre blueplanet vista tank. I currently have one female bristlenose 6cm and one male bristlenose 9cm, three swordtails one is male and two is female as well as three little zebra danio's sadly the other three have gone to the big fishbowl in the sky. My tank is about 90cm long and quite deep, do you guys have any suggestions what I can add to make my tank more intersting. Just some info, I do not have life plants only fake ones. I am thinking of getting some chocolate zebra's three but only once I saved up for them. I wanted to get 3 black mollies but HFF is currently out of them, so now I am stuck, maybe you guys can help out Since I am a beginner please don't suggest violent or nippy fish
  13. Baie goed dankie I take it you are an ex South African too LOL
  14. My husband is dyslexic and could not read that paragraph at all, I am not and could read most of it Just thought I would answer you and just too add, both myself and my husband's first language is Afrikaans, we were born in South Africa
  15. Thanks Caryl, it is deffinetly smooth and not raised or fluffy, looks like the skin is actually a bit thinner there. The male has been chasing my poor females and bumping them under their bodies so I won't be suprised if he might have rammed her into the filter or something, poor thing.
  16. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii23 ... d/spot.jpg Above is a pic of my female swordtail or platty, I only noticed it today (It does not look raised or aggrivated in any way, she also swims normally and feeds normally, no changes in her behaviour), my attention were more on the bristlenose babies, but they all got homes today so now I started noticing my other fish. The reason why I am not sure if she is a platty or a sword tail is because when I bought her from the goldfish pagola in Botany the guy said it was platties, but my male looks like this http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii23 ... male-1.jpg the females I have (there is two) is the same colouring as he, so not quite sure what I actually have.
  17. I was very relieved to read the below news piece, I also absolutely loved the part I bolded A Hamilton bar owner has pulled the plug on offering live goldfish shots as part of a student week promotion after the stunt attracted widespread media coverage and concern. The promotion was scheduled to take place at the Agenda bar tonight, the Waikato Times reported. Bar owner Logan Hughes said he called off the event so he did not want to get into a "moral debate". Bar staff would instead offer a chocolate fish and shot for everyone who asked for the goldfish drink and would have an SPCA donation box at the bar. Mr Hughes had initially said the promotion was not as cruel as everyone was making it out to be. It was frequently done in the United States, Thailand and England, he said.
  18. Thanks Your fish are absolutely beautiful
  19. I am new at this hobby and just have a question about the above pics. Is it ok to hold them like that outside the water for a pic? Only time I hold my fish, is when I have to burry them after removing them from the tank
  20. Just to correct the sizing, just did it with some tape  Its from Out to In 8cm....12cm.......12cm......8cm The filtermedia part is sized above then you add for the pipe and outlet pipe thingy and that adds to 80cm sorry about that error all
  21. The two in the centre is bigger than the two at the side, that is where I currently have my bio balls and ceramic circle thingies edit to add I just eddited my size at the top it is 40 not 80 and it is by 15cm will meassure it exact now and re edit again
  22. So in my four compartments what will I put now? It is a very big filter atleast 40cm long and 15cm wide. edit to add By biological media do you mean the ceramic circles and bio balls? eddited again My tank is very clear and not cloudy at all
  23. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii23 ... lter-1.jpg The above link is to a very silly little drawing of my filter. I have a blue planet vista and that is how my filter is set up. Let me know if anything is unclear, I know the pic is not the easiest to go by, but I google immaged and could not find any good pics. Now my question is that someone mentioned to me that I don't actually need carbon in my tank unless I try to get meds out of it. I thought it was very important and changed it every three months, And there is a lot of carbon in my filter which is set up according to the tanks at animates. So now I ask all you fish breeders out there,is carbon neccessary in a tank, am I replacing it enough and if it is not neccessary what on earth do I put in its space. Hope all of this is clear enough so you could help me edit to add http://www.blueplanetaquariums.com/Port ... lter_H.htm Found this video that shows my filter, except mine has four compartments and is much much bigger.
