    filter find

absolutely amazing I once searched all over for my female bristlenose and found her in the filter as well, she climbed in the part of the filter that blows the water out, I was suprised she got through that current LOL. They are amazing these little BN's
  2. Thanks for all the advice, I have removed the zuchinni and added an exta algae wafer, they polish it off quite quick. Did realise today though that my male is springcleaning the bogwood, so we will just wait and see. I do not feed bloodworms or any life foods as I am not familiar with them and heard that if not used properly you could give your fish swimbladder or in other words severe constipation. Instead I buy a protein tablet which contains all the vitamins of the life foods. I will keep you guys updated
  3. Yes I see her with long strings of poop, I always have fresh zuchini and they have bogwood, they also get algae wafers and protein tablets, which is all for constipation prevention. I hope she is going to be ok I can not handle another death now
  4. Yes she is a bristlenose. I have had a spawning not so long ago by another couple and they spawned under the bogwood. I meant is she carrying eggs (pregnant) If she started producing eggs for the male that died will she allow the other male to guard the eggs, and will he show interest? You see the other spawning she picked him and he cleaned the bogwood inside out and then she became gravid with eggs and had them and he looked after them. Now the only remaining male just hangs around on his kelp plant as he usually did. He in not cleaning at all
  5. If she is pregnant, will the male start cleaning a suitable place soon, cause now he is just hanging around in the kelp? just to add a question, what happens if she got pregnant for the male that recently died?
  6. Thanks oneeyedfrog. Guys I found out the reason why he died, and I feel very guilty He died of a broken heart, I just spoke to the friend whom I gave his female mate too, and she said that the female died two days ago, she also could not see anything wrong and said that the female just appeared to be sleeping. She said that the two babies I gave with the female are doing great and is very active. So I think I should rather have kept them together instead of worrying how I would house babies if they were to spawn again Well atleast I know, to never split up a breeding couple ever, it seems our fish fall in love just like we do.
  7. Simdey, I guess its the hardest part of doing fish keeping. We get to attached, they are no longer a fish pet but an aqua child, and the loss is very hurtful Carlos & Siran, I just feel so hurt that he was so young and taken away, I mean these little guys can get up to ten years old. I agree Caryl. Sometimes I wish I was a vet of some sorts so that I could figure it out, but unfortuanatly I am not and its pricy to have it done. So guess I will just have to accept it, but a person can not help but question yourself the whole time. Ferenzenz I checked with the help of my hubby for any type of scarring, holes, illnesses and we could not find anything, he did not have internal bleeding cause his tummy was the same colour as usual, to tell you the truth he just looked as if he were sleeping except for the little spikes at his eyes that were enlarged and bigger than usual as per bristlenoses that die. What really suprises me is his colour was super fantastic. He usually look a bit blotchy but he was perfectly dark brown with the little white spots and the trimmings of his tails were gorgeous. That still confuses me.
  8. I am so sad everyone, I found my bristlenose male dead (The one who was recently a daddy) moments ago. I had a look at his body before burying him under the peach tree and he was fine in every way, no blotiness or scars or anything. My water parameters check out ok. My ph is 7.2, my nitrate, amonia and nitrite all 0. Why did he die, he was so young, only 8cm. I got him in September at 3cm long. I monitored my tank for a while and checked on my other male and female as well as some of the babies I still have and they all are active and fine, no idea why he died, any ideas from you guys
  9. Thanks for all the advice I spoke to my hubby and we will get the darker gravel, I will get an additional piece of driftwood and get some nice Stone decorations. I am not yet ready to use life plants and I think my big male bristlenose will be very upset if I took his plastic kelp plant away  He loves it to bits, won't even get off If I shift it around the tank while gravel vaccing I will do all this over time, but once completed I will show you guys the final result on this thread. Thanks once again for all your valued advice
  10. Hi all. I started out with a small little 60 litre hexagon and have upgraded in September too this http://www.masterpet.com/australia/prod ... m_no=EG515 measurements are not in there so I will give them for those of you who are not familiar with the tank Length 90cm Side 36cm Max width at the top in the centre 42cm water depth 50cm I am a beginner in the aquarium hobby and love it severely I had a dream of fancy pleco's since I go absolutely mad for pleco's but that dream was shattered when a very helpful employee at HFF said that those guys really need their space. So then Hubby and me had a walkabout in the store and saw glass catfish, which you guys so kindly said would be fine and I currently have five danio's, three swordtails and Three bristlenoses. What can you guys suggest to make my tank more excitening, even in decorations, I will link you to a pic of my tank as it is now. I will link you to photobucket cause its a bigger pic than if I had to resize it to put an image of it here. Thanks in advance guys, really appreciate all your help http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii238/mcrudd/002.jpg
  11. Thanks for all your advice both of you, its very much appreciated
  12. I think they are a bad batch, I have had them the same time as the other fish. Got all my fish as fry and the swordtails are huge and fat and healthy, the bristlenoses are healthy and have even spawned and all their babies were healthy. But I got these long finn danio's one died of dropsy (I got 6 so they can school) and from the 5 that are left one has a bow back and its getting worse by the day and the one with the longest fins seem to have its fins tearing. The other three seem fine, but out of all of them I can say that only one Is very healthy and nice and fat. I just don't understand it. I used to do my watertests before, then someone else said afterwards LOL, I will switch back to before, but the tests were always the same either way Thanks for all your addvice Jennifer
  13. I saw these fish at hollywood fish farm today and is very interested in getting them. Here is my stats, please let me know if I would be able to get them. I have a Blue Planet Vista tank it is 155 litres, its the glass tank with the curved front. My temp in my tank is set on 24 degrees but with these hot days we had it did creep up to 26.5 degrees My water test always comes out the same, I check it an hour after my 30 persent waterchange I do weekly, it is as follow pH 7.2 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Amonia 0 The fish currently in the tank is 3 Swordtails 3 Bristlenoses 5 Zebra Danio's (might get rid of them, they are not very healthy for some reason)
  14. Ira and Mark not many of us are good at maths, I for one dropped that subject first when I was allowed to choose my subjects, I just thought it would help people like me out, seriously Mods if this is gonna cause so much negativity just delete this thread please
  15. Oops  just thought this one is nice because of all the different types of tanks
  16. http://reef.diesyst.com/volcalc/volcalc.html This is quite handy, so I thought I would share with you all
  17. LOL we did the same thing and it worked. We had neighbours that would go out and party till like 1 in the morning, but then they would bring the party to their house. So we will be fast asleep and WAM wide awake cause they start partying. So we woke up at 5 and put all our speakers of our hifi in the nearest room to their house (was a hassle but so worth it) and blasted Queen super loud, we even had to close our bedroom doors and passage doors so we could have peace for a while. We ran the whole cd and then switched it off
  18. Thanks Caryl, I am most probably over reacting if there were five its many and the danio's and swordtail/platties went for them immidiately, but I said to my hubby next waterchange I will take the driftwood and plastic plants out and do a big waterchange (not too big, but big) and I am feeding less now too. Less babies to worry about, it was my first babies and I just went into a panick  I will learn, I am quite new in the hobby so have lots and lots to experience and learn
  19. How old is the cat that is scratching you?
  20. I read up about it and it seems that I just need to do lots and lots of 20% water changes until my gravel is sparkly clean  it is clean now, but its not sparkly yet, so I will do another change tomorrow and the day after and so forth LOL
  21. Yip that is them, I will slow down on the feeding now that I have less babies to worry about, I was so scared they were not getting enough food, so I put 2 algae wafers in every night, will bring that down to one now Thanks Sam, I feel so happy now
  22. Thanks all for your advice, I decided to keep them till about the 4cm size
  23. Thanks, yes its my first time owning a tortoise shell and I think she is the most intelligent and calm of all the cats I have ever owned. If we want to leave and want to put her in the house (big bully cat in the street) then I just call "Milkies" and she comes running LOL
  24. Hi all I have a 155 litre blue planet vista tank, in there I have two bristlenose males and 1 bristlenose female, 5 zebra danio's and 3 swortail/platties. I used to have over 60 Bristlenose babies in there, but 50 of them went to Animates today. When I came back from delivering them I did a thorough 30% water change and as I added my new water I noticed little stringy white worms about 5mm big. The Danio's and Swordtail/Platties ate them. I checked the water I was adding and it was crystal clear but if I stirred the stones the worms came up, so they came up more everytime I added some water. I live in Beachlands so we are on tankwater but have never had any problems. I always do regular water checks and did one just before taking the babies out to make double sure that if Animates tested the water they were in, it would be spot on correct. So all my water tests are good, here they are just in case you guys would like them. pH 7.2 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Amonia 0 Could you please advice me what this could be, Oh forgot to add what I feed my fish on, here goes. I feed hikari wafers and fresh zucchini to the bristlenoses. I feed BettaMin Tropical Medley flakes to the danio's and swordtail/platties. I also once a week, usually the day before a waterchange give them all Nutrafin Max freeze dried protein tablets. That should be about all the information you guys would need to assist me Forgot to add water temp, I keep it at 24 degrees celcius
