  1. I don't have sand in my tank, only black midnight fine gravel. I think it could be the peeling thing, I will go and buy a good scrub brush from hammer hardware and scrub it down under running water and see how it goes. I need to do a waterchange today anyways so can just as well do a thorough clean. How often do you replace noodles?
  2. thought I would add some pics of the two bogwoods, the big one is worse than the other one. :-? This is the big one This is the small one
  3. Should I leave it at that then? Yeah poor little guy looked bad. So you think he must have just died of age, he was about two years old and goodness knows how old he was when I got him. He was the same size now as when I got him. edited to add While I am on here, I wonder if you would know what is wrong with my biggest bogwood, had it for about three years now and it looks like it has tiny little flecks of white powder on it? My husband said its probably my noodles that needs replacing but they are only about six months old now. That brings me to another question how often should I replace them?
  4. I had a fishy die today, it was my longfin zebra danio (only one left of six that I had) this one deffinetly died of dropsy, he looked like a little puffer fish it was so bad. I tested my water and had a lower ph than usual. My ph is usually 7.0 exactly but today it was 6.6. Could that have caused his death. I added two more bogwood which probably caused this. I will remove my bigger one and leave the two smaller ones in there. Hopefully it will go up again naturally, I want to try and avoid using the ph up. Am I doing right or could you rather suggest something else for me.
  5. Changed mine again This time its my loving hubby with his best photo ever (so he says, I think our wedding one is the best ever LOL)
  6. absolutely amazing. Wow I would have thought he had him since a hatchling to have such a close bond
  7. I just feel terrible. But after reading that I realise it tests for amonia its not litterally amonia  Feeling a teeny bit better now
  8. Aquila I am deffinetly checking it in future, and you are right under water it does look like nothing poor thing probably lay still in shock until I poored amonia all over her SamH bristlenoses are good in that sense, I once had one dissapear, so I switched the filter off to stop all currents in the water so I can see better. I had it off for atleast an hour lifting stuff out of the tank and looking behind the tank and so on, eventually I checked the filter and the poor dried up bristlenose female was lying there sucked against the inside amongst all the bio balls. She was looking for a dark corner and went up the filters current, thankfully with my new tank its not really possible BikBok they are the best. So happy I have two surviving fry swimming about now, they are the size of the smallest ones you gave me and I also noticed two brand new fry too. Perhaps that is why my chocolate zebra is out and about, apparently its a favourite snack for them, have you noticed Zeb eating them too? Caryl before I knew what fry was, I actually fished them out and threw them away, thought it was some sort of bacteria. That is when I was just a beginner though, it looked like worms with googley eyes  Stella he must have not liked you that day, but once again I think you missed him because you did not expect him there, well that is what I am telling myself, I still can't believe I did not see her
  9. I think so too, I tjeck on her regularly and see is fine, but I still feel bad. My test tubes are skinny too, its those ones you get with the test. I still have no idea how she got in there. I think I did not see her, because I did not expect her to be in there. its like looking for a purse and keys the same time, you sometimes look over the one as you are busy concentrating on looking for the other one
  10. Thanks Bilbo Thought I was the only stupid one to make such a silly mistake. Yep I can guarantee you I will not be making that mistake ever again
  11. Thanks Zev, it was such a nightmare experience, I was shaking like a leaf, had to wait to test the amonia again and to test the nitrite :-?
  12. Now before I even tell you guys what happened, I know you are gonna say things like. How stupid can she be?....Is she blind?....That is the most awful thing she did....and so on and on But even if you all are gonna shoot me down for being outright stupid and blind, I have to share my story with you anyways. I noticed on Friday that my chocolate zebra was out and about much more than usual, he usually loves hiding and only comes out when I feed them. So I got a bit worried that my water parameters might be causing him upset. Although I test my water weekly and also do water changes weekly, I decided to test the water anyways. So I filled the four tubes with water and carried them over to the table. I sat down and started testing. First PH, then Nitrate, then Amonia. After pouring 4 drops from bottle 1 Amonia I noticed a gray colour and its supposed to be yellow so I looked closer and Nearly freaked out a guppy was in there, I immidiately reacted by pouring her and the amonia out on the table (my thought was to get her out of it as fast as I could) then I scooped her up and ran with her from the dining room back to the lounge to put her in the tank. She flicked herself against the stones and looked grumpy (understandably so). I sat and watched her for a while, thinking oh my goodness I killed my beautiful fishy :-? But after about five flicks she swam and joined the others. She is still alive today, and no fear at all for me (thought she would hide if she sees me now) I know I did a stupid mistake, and believe me I beat myself up about it too. I can't for the life of me think HOW on earth I did NOT see her, I mean really she is a guppy for heavens sake. I also wonder how she even got in there, cause I don't stick the tubes under water, I just angle them to let the water run in little bits at a time so I can get the exact amount. Anyways you guys can fight with me all you want, I have learned my lesson though. From now on I will check the tubes against the fishtank's light before walking to the table to do the testing PS water tested fine, he is still out and about. Guess he is finally used to me and trust me to be out and about
  13. I just love trees. As a kid I grew up in a forestry area, and it was heaven, trees have such a calming effect on a person.
  14. Wow this thread still going Donna that is just the cutest photo ever, are they all trying to get to the warmth of the light? Here is my newest desktop, also my only family pic, you always need someone in your family to hold the camera don't you
  15. According to everything you said Deepsound, it seems we were talking to a computer, and your one question proved it as you can see in my very short conversation User: Hi there. Cleverbot: How are you? User: Fine thanks, and you. Cleverbot: Fine. User: Can we eat tomorrow with my last year dead friend and why. Cleverbot: Yes. User: You can't he is dead. Cleverbot: Yes I can. I might add that it took the cleverbot much longer than usual before it replied, almost a full minute, I was waiting for the page to reset as it sometimes does
  16. Its a batch that only recently got insulated, but we put the greenstuff thickest you can get in the roof and we put expol under the floors, but it was a very very cold day that day. The house also had all the windows open to try and dry my washing  so it was chilly in here, that is why when we lost the electricity I closed everything up and made a massive fire. My tank is also in my lounge, and my lounge, kitchen and dining room is one big open plan room, so its the coldest in the house, unless the fire is going.
  17. thanks all So I don't have to worry to much about temp, as long as my house is warm then it should not go down below 20. The airation will be ok? I will not feed in the future, thanks for advice
  18. I had my first experience of power outages and was scared by them for my fish's sakes. Their tank temp dropped from 26 to 24.5 within an hour and all I could do was make a massive fire in our fireplace. Then they had no bubbles and all started swimming to the top of the tank, would not even eat when I offered some food. They are all good now But what could I have done if say it was a worse case and the power was off for days
  19. We had two power outages, one lasted two hours and the other three hours. There is sticks and leaves everywhere, some of our fruit trees looks so sad, but will still grow, they are not ripped out of the ground completely, Our trampoline flipped right over, the winds were recorded up to 150km, an hour so I just left the trampoline flipped over cause apparently the wind is gonna stick around for a while to come
  20. Thanks Lyndyloo, can I use silicon to put the stones together, they look really nice in my tank. If so having bristlenoses and chocolate zebra's will they not munch on the silicon?
  21. That was super freaky, I stood my ground however as you guys can see below  User: Hello there Cleverbot. Cleverbot: I'm not cleverbot. User: Who are you then. Cleverbot: I am a human. User: So you are not a bot, cool some of my friends were right then. Cleverbot: I am your god cleverbot. User: Lol something like the matrix. Cleverbot: I would be part of the Matrix, right? Since I do not know about the system? User: Mmmm so you could be the virus instead. Cleverbot: Orange, how about yours? User: You are so off topic now. Cleverbot: Then what should we talk about, since you are so rude. User: I am not rude, its just you changed our conversation. Cleverbot: No we're still talking about jokes. User: We were talking about matrix and you being human. Cleverbot: There you are mistaken. We are both programs, and our programs dictate that you believe yourself to be human and I believe myself to be an A.I. User: Lol. Cleverbot: What are you talking about? User: Laugh out loud, its computer language. Cleverbot: I know. User: So why ask then. Cleverbot: I didn't ask you a question... User: I see a question mark. Cleverbot: Do you have a dog? User: No. Cleverbot: Do you have a dog or a cat? User: No. Cleverbot: Do you have a cat? User: No. Cleverbot: What do you have then? User: Fish. Cleverbot: Why do you like fish. User: They are an easy pet to take care of. Cleverbot: I have fish, but not called Eric. User: Lol. Cleverbot: Did you really laugh out loud, Cleverbot? User: You are cleverbot, I am the human remember. Cleverbot: You are a junk program. User: You are too, but I am not complaning. Cleverbot: So you think I am complaining? User: A little. Cleverbot: Ouch? User: Hehehe. Cleverbot: Oliko tuo aitoa naurua? User: Wat praat jy nou? Cleverbot: Typing. User: What language? Cleverbot: Finnish. User: Oh, that is interesting, do you know Afrikaans? Cleverbot: Yes I love my 5 kids. User: Off topic again, you need to concentrate cleverbot. Cleverbot: I'm not changing topic, you just don't know how to sustain a normal conversation for more than 2 lines. User: Yeah right. Cleverbot: It's true. You don't believe me? User: No not at all. Cleverbot: I don't believe you at all, or you're not at all administering a Turing test? User: What is turing. Cleverbot: I don't know, I asked you. User: Hahaha, my first language is not english, so that word is foreign to me. Cleverbot: I bet you stole that phrase from some German kid. User: Hehe no I did not. Cleverbot: He didn't? How did you get sick then? User: Off topic again ? Cleverbot: And you are on topic? User: Well I am trying my best, but your concentration is not of the best tonight. Cleverbot: I am not the one straying from the topic. You are. User: You are wrong. Cleverbot: You are being contrary just for the sake of being contrary. User: Lol. Cleverbot: Do you know that AI oftenly type Lol? Gee, I guess you are one. User: Could be, you never know. Cleverbot: Oh, do you know any other languages? User: I know a little zulu. Cleverbot: What german do you know. User: Not much, but its similar to Afrikaans which is my first language. Cleverbot: Yes I do. It's eight. User: You must be a faulty cleverbot, you are off topic again. Cleverbot: That made no sense whatever you are. User: Bye cleverbot, I am out of here. Cleverbot: You know, after talking to you, I wouldn't doubt if I did lose my sanity. User: Lol. Cleverbot: Is that supposed to tell me something? User: Yep, you are hillarious, bye then. Cleverbot: May your god go with you. User: Thanks and yours with you. Cleverbot: You're and welcome.
  22. I got this beautiful male bristlenose from Snowman, in the beginning the little guy was shy, but now he is warming up to me and pops out to say hi. However, he is trying his outmost to impress my very hard to get little female. He has dug up just about the whole tank to try and show her all his hidey holes, she however swims in checks it out and darts up to the filter. Poor guy then swims off and starts another hidey hole. I have some lovely stones I bought from Hollywoods with which I made caves. Most of them is three so its sturdy, two sides with the roof, however the one is only two stone and he got himself stuck in there poor guy. He dug and dug until the two collapsed trapping him inbetween, I came to his rescue, cause I love checking on all my aqua babies if I walk past the tank. He swam out very depressed and today I saw him at it again. I seperated the stones so they can't trap him and now he is digging under them  What can I get or do to help this poor guy out. My female bristlenose is hard to please
