  1. Do you know if those porities corals are available here in NZ??
  2. Get jetstream Alan, took a whole 20 seconds for the pics to upload. Awesome pics Pies!! love the moray eel shot, loved all the shots really. Looks like you had a great time, we are all jealous!! 8)
  3. Whitebait!! I would never of thought of that, great idea!! They would make good live feeders as well.
  4. Just what i thought!! I was expecting someone to react in just that manner
  5. I've only had freshwater fish for about a year, but it was only six months into it when I decided I have to go marine or I'll never be satisfied, so I'm still in the planning and research stage but I'll get there.
  6. This thing is on trade me http://www.trademe.co.nz/Lifestyle/Pets ... 805765.htm Would it actually work, or is it just another cheap worthless piece of junk??
  7. Resize it! compress it! convert it to low res JPG! Take a screen shot of it! there are many ways of doing so!!
  8. And also how hard would it be to fit a cpr or syphon overflow system to one of these tanks??
  9. Can you not put T5's or the likes in these systems?? And if your converting to a reef system can't the filtering unit be removed since it serves no real purpose for a reef and therefore leaving plenty of space at the rear of the tank for plumbing and extra lighting (maybe a couple of halide pendants etc..)??
  10. Turn your temp up to about 28.C white spot can't survive in this temp and as alan said keep dosing for three days after the last sign of any whitespot, the malkon should be fine.
  11. Hey reef, why would you suggest using an aqua one tank for fish only and not a reef???
  12. Sorry, my mistake again, every thing that I have read is quoted in gallons and then everyone hear talks in litres, can be very confusing, so just disregard everything i said previously..
  13. Everything I've read, suggests 3-5 watts per "gallon", Much of this depends on what livestock you are keeping. Your best bet is to think about what corals you plan on keeping and read up about thier light requirements before you go purchasing any lights. If you are going for just a few softies like the anemone and maybe some brains and leathers etc.. then the VHO's would be a good bet. But if want to keep the likes of acropora, etc... then you are going to have to consider metal halide lighting, maybe a couple of 175 watt halides with a couple of compacts this should bring your lighting to around 5 watts a "gallon" with is sufficient for these kind of corals.
  14. I'm insulted that you would think I am that ignorant towards my chosen hobby, that being the case I should give up before I even start!! No just kidding!! I was mistaken and thought that chimera was getting an acrylic syphon overflow box made (or wier). And thought better planning should of been done if he was to need one of these. But that was my missunderstanding, sorry!!
  15. I hope that comment isn't directed at me in any way :-?
  16. I seen this tank on trade me http://www.trademe.co.nz/Lifestyle/Pets ... 560349.htm it would be the perfect tank for anyone that is thinking about starting a marine tank.
  17. More like a long weekend! And he didn't have to do half as much as you have. You're doing a great job, heads up!!
  18. What kelvin rating are the new halides? They seem to be alot higher than the previous, this can make things look like they have changed colour a whole lot more.
  19. Damn! I was working to a budget of $5k, I will be buying all equipment new for maximum lifespan, so you could just about double that figure I guess. Just as long as no one tells the misses. My famous last words (It doesn't cost to much more than my freshwater setup darling!) 8)
  20. Why, I must say, a bit of dejavue going on there!!
  21. Most anenomes are white when they are young and then slowly turn into thier true colours as they get older. It is of more concern if they start turning white later on, that is usually a sign of insuffient light.

  23. One of my favourite tanks that I have seen is a soft coral tank and something that I myself want to accomplish (with limited resources however, but no harm in trying) here is a link http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-08/totm/index.htm
