  1. I had the same problems, just part of new tank syndrome. Give it a few weeks, kepping up the water changes and keeping the algae in check and it will come right.
  2. The american made Iwaki's are a very cost effective alternative to the japanese ones, you'll have to see if they do them in 240v though. Otherwise I've heard alot of good remarks about the mag drives (although I thought they were submersibles) so they would be a good bet at a much lower cost.
  3. Is the tank getting any direct sunlight??
  4. Good to know you didn't just go to school to eat your lunch
  5. I have millions of snails in one of my tanks and zero snails in the other. The difference between the two tanks is two clown loaches, you do the maths.
  6. You fell for that one big time brian!!
  7. Geeez Brian, you're gonna have to trade in the nano and go for something like that, you'll be the envy of us all!
  8. Very nice!! I might just fill my tank with them (no one will know the difference) 8)
  9. Has anyone used this before?? any would there be any problems bringing it into the country? or better yet, is it already available here?
  10. Sorry to hear about the muck up in your order Chimera! I was wondering wether or not they had sent you the wrong pump when it arrived so soon. The 240v models they have to bring in from Japan and that usually takes 4-6 weeks and then another couple weeks to get it to you. I feel bad that you have had these hassles with your order since I refered you to them, but they are highley regarded as one of the best stores in America, so I'm sure they will do thier best to sort it out for you.
  11. Having a second overflow solely for the purpose of feeding the refugium is a bit excessive for a 4foot tank, my suggestion would be to run a ball valve on a T section from the return pump or existing overflow.
  12. A couple of these pumps, with a few of the 5kw uv bulbs from work and your on your way to making the ultimate reef.
  13. And what were the halides you were previously using??
  14. Alois never answered me on the lighting question and hasn't answered the ones on RC about his lighting, can you fill us in on that one please Alois.
  15. Most average joes don't have 3 phase power to run one of these puppies, A good pump if you have a few acres and want to run an irregator. Of course you'll need you're own well to feed it, good old town supply won't keep up with that flow rate.
  16. Can you link us to his thread wasp?
  17. Thats the problem with beginners though, they don't realise there is already a current thread on thier topic.
  18. Isn't that what he's trying to avoid??
  19. if I remember rightly, he said his return area was about 40l, 10l is probably the minimum before the pump starts to run dry, this makes 30l with 5l evapouration a day, thats only 5-6 days before it runs dry if the top up fails, and that will be even less when evapouration increases with the warmer weather. alot to risk IMO.
  20. Why not install a backup top off system for the return chamber?? If you are worried about the top off failing the chances are with a back up, both them won't fail at the same time. And with two top ups working they should keep up with any slow leaks that may occur. Just a thought!!
  21. Jetstream only costs $3 a week more than dialup 8)
  22. good one!! thanks for the help guy's, I just wasn't sure wether there was a cureing process before cycling.
  23. wouldn't they die pretty quickley with the huge amounts ammonia from the decaying life on the rock and in the sand??
  24. I have aquired a heap of liverock and sand. There is alot of decaying life on some of the rock and in the sand. The rest of the rock is completley dead. Can I just trough it all in a drum with a couple of powerheads to cure it? or is that to easy? is there a need for any filtration? do I need to heat the water? How do you know when this process is finished? any info would be greatly appreciated!!

    heaters

Pies is right, overkill is not a good thing. they will heat alot more rapidly and cause erratic temperature flucuations, even with the controller.
