  1. No it's a Naso lopezi , not quite so ugly. Will try and post pics as soon as I get time 8)
  2. After introducing some corals a few weeks ago I had an out break of these varmits ( about 15 - 20 or so), but now there is no sign of a single one. My spotted unicorn Tang seems to have taken a liking to them, has anyone observed this happening with these fish before?
  3. I don't see why people have a complacent attitude towards petworld, in the past I would agree with you but in the last year or two I would say they would have some of the healthiest and biggest selection of marine stock in chch. I highly recommend Organisms for corals they are always of high quality and always have a good selection, not a huge selection but a good selection.

    New toys

I already have a 20amp step down transformer that was surplus to requirements at work, it makes it a whole lot more exciting to shop on ebay!!

I agree that deltec are a superior product but they just don't fit everyones budget. There millions of successfull reef tanks in the states and only a tiny minority of these run deltecs so they must have products of a similar quality. I myself can not afford the deltec that I want so I am forced to look at other options. One skimmer that i am currently looking at is on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Predator-IV-Dual-40 ... dZViewItem , I am just waiting on a reply to see if he will ship to NZ.
  6. Yeah! and a 100 new mates to play with!!
  7. I've read and heard so many different opinions and methods of feeding corals so I am quite interested to hear from you guys the methods you use to feed corals. What you feed them? different foods for different corals? How regular do you feed? Do you feed the coral individualy or do you just feed the tank?
  8. Our local Farm trade centre sells them for $6.20
  9. It can be a scary thought, and quite offputting when you add all the figures up. but with alot of research, good planning and alot of patients it is quite achievable. Slowly building the system over time means you can spread the cost over time. I currently have a five foot tank that I converted from fresh water to marine at a cost of a little under $1000. That sounds like a pretty good figure to get set up but over the next 2-3 years I have budgeted for a least another $6000 - $8000. My total budget was estimated to be around the $10 000 mark. The Majour costs I have yet to incure are Skimmer - $1000 Lights - $1200 Pumps - $1200 Plumbing $300 - $400 Sump and Refugium - $300 Power heads and controller - $1500 Calcium Reator and co2 - $500 More rock and sand $300 - $400 Livestock - $2000 - god knows And I would say there will be many other things along the way!!!! Oh My God "mental not to self" don't let the Mrs read this thread.
  10. In fact all the tanks so far have been awesome, well done guys!!
  11. Awesome Westy1, I am very Jelous!!!
  12. Is it normal to have an abundance of copepods in a newly setup tank?

    Copepods

We were away for three days over the weekend, and upon returning the aquarium glass is covered with millions of copepods, This seems quite strange as there was no sign of a single one before we left.
  14. My 1100 rattled and had a constant hum when it was new, but now it is quiet and runs well, it has a 2 second rattle when it starts up but other than that I can't complain.
  15. Sorry cees, I will try and remedy it when I get some time.

    tank colour.

Here is my tank in both, it may help to decide
  17. Its from mitre10 the brand is plasticote, it pays to put a couple of clearcotes on to seal it.
  18. Its painted the same colour as chimeras, Marine Blue
  19. It's the same tank as misnomas, a 5' aquaone tank. To answer misnomas question" there is no sump, no skimmer. The overhead filter has about 4kg of rock in it and 1 kg of carbon sought of acting as a miny sump until the tank gets conected to the sump room in the new house.
  20. Its not really a big issue at this stage, because it is only a temp setup until we move house in 6 months time, to which I will then construct on a more permanent basis. The rock is currently sitting on the glass bottom and there is mininmal contact points with the sand, there will be hardley any livestock for the next few months so it shouldn't cause any problems
  21. Well finally got things up and running and managed to take a few pics I have a few photos of setting up and will post later when I get more time
  22. I haven't had to give mine a whack yet(my aqua one powerhead won't go without a good whack though) but it's the constant whining that bugs me. the tunze streams are a far superior product and I'm sure when the budget allows it I will purchase a couple. but for now I'll have to just put up with it. Maybe if it bugs the wife enough I'll get the streams earlier (whine baby whine)
  23. I wish it were that easy, but the tank is drilled through back and the standpipe is on an elbow into the bulkhead. My lesson from this is to rebuild the overflow with enough room to pull the stand pipe out when still attached to the bulkhead And the biggest lesson I learned is Always check for leaks!![/size]
