    Tank size and sump

I have a 3ft tank atm which is 600 wide and 500 high. I thought I would retro this tank to hold heaters, skimmer, pumps and everything else.

    Tank size and sump

If I look at a 4ft tank that is 800mm wide and 660 high, what size sump would I need? What would the lighting spec's to have suitable light spectrum levels at the bottom of the tank? Thanks for all the replies as well. Malcolm
  3. What are the most important dimensions? I am only 'allowed' a four foot tank, so length isn't negotiable but my partner never mentioned anything about how high or wide? :slfg: This is going to be a custom built job, so resonably fexible. It will almost certainly be a reef tank with 3-5 fish max. The tank is going against a wall, so if it is too wide it will be difficult to reach to the back. What is the prefered/ideal height for a reef tank? I can't afford a crazy lighting system, so needs to be realistic. Thanks Malcolm
  4. Does anyone know of some pure bloods?

    German exporters

Just been having a look at what is available in germany. Even the ones that are on the alllowed list are generally way cooler than what we have here. Two of my favs: Julidochromis dickfeldi lunangwa blue Neolamprologus tretocephalus Altolamprologus compressiceps fire fin http://www.airfish.de/english/html/stocklist.html Feel free to post other exporters lists
  7. I know this is a serious question, but maybe your forum name is having some type of impact on your tank
  8. Hi A bit cheeky but does anyone have a lighting unit I can borrow for about 2 months. A two or three foot unit would be great, with tubes. My units two bulbs have crapped out and I am going to ozzy in a couple of months for a visit and buying a new unit over there at the same time, so i really don't want to buy replacement tubes. Just need the unit for the period between now and Sept. Thanks Malcolm
  9. Hi all you plant lovers Here is a list of commonly found aquatic and emergent plants found in NT of Australia. I found some surveys that covered rivers, creeks and billabongs for the particular bio-type I am going to try and copy. The numbers relate to how many times the plant turned up in the various survey spots. I used the NPPA list to work out what is banned (not many considering). Are there any that I missed? AQUATIC Aponogeton vanbruggenii 2 Blyxa aubertii 5 Caldesia oligococca 2 Eriocaulon setaceum 3 Myriophyllum dicoccum Najas tenuifolia Nymphaea violaceae 5 Nymphoides indica Ottelia alismoides Philydrum lanuginosum Spirodela polyrhiza Utricularia gibba 2 BANNED Vallisneria nana EMERGENT Eleocharis dulcis Eriocaulon willdenovianum Limnophila aromatica 3 Limnophila chinensis 4 Limnophila fragrans 4 Hanguana malayana Hygrophila angustifolia 2 Nelsonia campestris Philydrum lanuginosum 3 Staurogyne leptocaulis Xyris indica Of what is left, have any of these made in into NZ and being sold? or more helpfully, you have some for sale? Thanks Malcolm
  10. Thanks!!! That has made life a lot easier!!
  11. Do we have any here? If so what species? Thanks Malcolm
  12. Hi all Are the above in the country?? I found a DOC document that says it was and possibility still is but the question is it still around for sale? Thanks Malcolm
  13. Yup, blue orchid are the ones with the white blaze. I am wondering if tropheus breed these ones as well - No different strain. Fingers crossed it is a nice line. NLS, cichlid - daily and the once a week, some bloodworms.
  14. Hi all. Who has some? and long long before the males colour up completely? and finallydoes anyone know who breed them? I got mine from HFF about a month ago and noticed yesterday that the larger individuals, which I presume to be males, have just got their blaze and a slight blue tinge to their bodies. The egg spots look pretty good on both the males and females thou. :happy1: I guess it is a waiting game :cofn: but from everything I have read they colour up very slowly. :spop: My Lithobates male has been in the tank for about a year and besides his blaze their is no colour thus far :an!gry. I guess the old saying from Kung Fu comes to mind 'patience grasshopper'.
  15. Well that was a bit of fun. Water sloshing in tank and 2 broken wine classes. Nothing to complain about when you compare it to chch. Thankfully it was a deep one.
  16. It is the wrong time of year to borer bomb your house, they need to be 'on the wing' ie. adults. One further thing. The borer bombs at the hardware stores are useless. They only kill adults that are active at the time of the bombing and come in contact with the chemical. I would not waste my money on buying bombs and get a proper pest control guy that has experence with borer. We have an old 1910 villa and tried the bombs two years in the row, without any noticeable success. One treatment by a pest control guy and they are history. On that note through. The chemical is applied as a outside coating on the exposed timber. The grubs inside the wood will continue to grow until they hatch, which takes approximate 5 years. Ask the guy to leave some chemical with you as well. You will need a glass container, the chemical eats plastic. Get yourself a syringe and inject any holes that look like they are active.
  17. Does anyone know much or anything about this light fixture? What are the spec's like. I know the Leds wont do much. Thanks
  18. lol +1 I am guessing something something jack dempsey? since we are in the cichlid forum. otherwise :smot:
  19. Check the for sale on the forums and post in the want to buy section. Even use the search engine. I have seen people post about both those fish. You will be able to get good looking fish from the forum alot cheaper than the LFS.
  20. One of them, yes.
  21. Hi all. Do we have any of these guys in the country? One species is allowed but it is a biggy. Any dwarf species around?
