Where the ones that came into HFF NZ bred or imports? For some reasoin was thinking they where locally bred.
  3. We have two norwegian forest cats. They have long fur and a double coat to boot. Helps them deal with the snow back in the old country. Anyways, we got a furminator on trademe. Alot cheaper. In my option it is way way way way way way way more effective than any of the so called brushes for long fur animals. We used to show our boy and had different brushes but they we useless compared to the furminator. If you are still unsure, animates let you bring in your animals and try out the store furminator (well the wellington store does :sml2:). Thats what we did with our cats and then brought one on TM. My two cents
  4. I am getting a 900 longx600 widex500 high tank very shortly. I am keeping african cichlids in it, planted cypts and anabias species. The plants do not require high light. Would people recommend a 600 or 900 long lighting unit? Below is the link to the lighting unit I am looking at. I am figuring that having 4 bulbs could make for the lack the lighting units lenght???? :dunno: :dunno: http://www.marinedepot.com/Sunlight_Supply_Tek_Light_High_Output_Fluorescent_Lighting_Fixtures_24_Inch_T5_Fluorescent_Light_Fixtures-Sunlight_Supply_Inc-SL2111-FILTFIT54U-vi.html any thoughts would be greatly appreciated Malcolm
  5. It is only for crypts. I have a african cichlid tank with calcite as the substrate. The crypts grow but very munted looking. I don't think they like the calcite as a growing medium and I thought I would give the seachem a go, since it is on special at Hollywoods. I would only need one bag as they are only grown in the front of the tank.
  6. Hi stella. I was talking to Mike Joy this week and he told me about what happened. Glad to see everything worked out. I also was your native fish setup at the trout center in Turangi. Very cool!!

    ATI lighting.

Actually it is for african cichlids. :slfg: The tank will be 600mm deep. So I need some grunt to get light down there. However, I am going to start a marine tank up and I have been thinking about using ATI. So I Will use it as a chance to decide if it is actually what I want before I fork over some serious coinage for a marine tank.

Thanks Joe, That is precisely the info I have been looking for!

    ATI lighting.

Does anyone know much about them? And can you buy this brand in little old NZ? Cheers
  11. They are in the breeder net because I am worried my cichlids will make a meal of them. Well several meals. I will get some pleco food tomorrow. They have not touched the courgette that I put in there as far as I can tell (Epic fail  ). I have never worried about having proper pleco food and they seem to grow well enough and breed too it seems  They are at least two years old. I had just put two ceramic caves into the tankabout two weeks ago for more hidding areas and now I have wrigglers.
  12. I have about hundred odd wrigglers :happy1: Is there anything special I need to know about them?? I have given them flake food and a small bit of corrgette (probably way way way too early  ) Do I need to add a little wood to the breeder net for their diet needs? :dunno:
  13. Thanks snookie. My will be a Low tech tank with anabia's and crypts. T5 or T8 here I come
  14. :nfs: off topic but what type of lighting you using for the tank? I am going to get a 600 high tank and every body is telling me the lighting required for a tank dept of 600 is expensive.
  15. Thanks for all the hellp so far. Can anyone recommend a good site that has designs for good marine setups? oh and what brands/makes are better. There are so many different ones.
  16. Are there any easier to keep corals? Ones that are abit more forgiving if mistakes are made? I was thinking about a 900mm long. Would having it higher or wider make much difference? say 900x500x500? Can anyone recommend a good site that has designs for good marine sumps? As for lighting. MD or LED?
  17. for say a 200-250 litre. What dimensions would be best? Roughly how many coral types would fix in a tamk that size? plus would that allow for a couple of shrimp and fish as well?
  18. I am at thinking of setting up a marine tank sometime next year. Now it is time for the Meh question. What is a good sized beginner tank? Not too large, which would require a large budget. I would like to try and get it all properly setup in one hit but not too small, which might limit getting a nice variety of corals. Once I have an idea of tank size I can work out the costs of getting everything together.
  19. Awesome photos I really need to pic up my technique to compete against all the great cichlid photos
  20. Could be anything but probably bloat. I lost a trop dub the other day to what I think was bloat but caused by being a greedy @#^$. I have been feeding them spirlina flake lately but the greedy buggers are globbing it at the surface of the water like there is no tomorrow. I am pretty sure it swallowed a whole heap of air. It was swimming around like it had bloat and later died.
  21. Well time for a update finally. Today, I got some Java and Xmass moss :mbh: The reason I am trying to grow plants in the tank is as much as I like African cichlids, their tanks almost alway look so damn Stark. :-? This has been a semi-expensive exercise so far, mainly due to death or being eaten. Currently, I am waiting on a fluval U4. I brought this from ebay ($109 including shipping :happy1: ). Yes I know this will be overkill but I study extramurally, work full-time and working on the house. Time is not always a friend, so I am not as regular at doing water changes as I should and want to be. Once I save some spare money I am going to upgrade my light to this: http://www.thereefshop.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_8&products_id=1549 If the lighting setup works out and I finally start getting some sucess with growing plants, I will try a couple of the more exspensive anubia species again. Does anyone have any Neolamprologus leleupi Fry for sale? :slfg: I was doing a water change a couple of weeks ago and I knocked over the breeder net I was keeping them in (due to their size ) and have not seen them since. I am still waiting on calvus and taiwan fry. :cofn: :spop: :cofn: (Thinking about sending up some type of crazy growth stimulant to Auckland.) This is a video of the tank. Please excuse the crap video and picture quailty. I am going to have to learn to get better. Java moss and Crypts Xmass moss No. 1 site and surviving anubias Xmass moss No.2 site
