My piece of oak twig is starting to get that white wispy fungus on bits of bare wood or, I presume, where there is sap coming out. Has anyone waited this out to see what happens? Last time I gave up and got rid of the wood but I really like this one, I don't want to give up! I wonder if I could put a single drop or 2 of meth blue in the water to slow it down a bit? Not enough to dye anything... ???

People recommend what works for themselves most of the time. So it isn't a science in some people's opinion, why does that make it wrong? Some would argue modern medicine's way of treating symptoms instead of preventing causes is wrong too.

You're only supposed to overdose excel if you're trying to kill particular kinds of algae. Saying that I think Zev uses it daily, but I don't know what for. I've found some fish and plants don't like excel too much so I stick to once a week, if at all. If you have a lot of plants they are supposed to eat all the comprehensive nutrients if they have enough light. I'm not an expert though, I'm passing on the advice given to me for my non-carbon dioxide tanks.
