  1. I think I have 3 maculatus and 3 brigittae left.
  2. You can't really tell what is sharp or not without magnifying it. I think that any of the things mentioned here will be ok. You could always try what you think is best without setting the tank up properly and seeing what they do, then decide whether to keep it or try something else.
  3. very hard to know what sort of sand it is, other than it looks like sand from a beach rather than a river. I've used East Coast Play sand, West Coast black sand for my loaches and corydora (not kuhlis) and all have been fine. Some buy 'Play sand' and some are lucky to live near a river to get river sand. I'd say that river sand is likely to be sharper if it's made of ground up stone, rather than silica. If you can't find any, see if there is a landscaping supply shop, up here we have a chain of stores that all sell a range of different sands for about $10 per 20kg or so. Some will give you a sample, and if you go after it's been raining you can see what colour the sand is when wet.
  4. it goes light to medium gray under water. It's nice
  5. If you mark the forum read, after that the ones you've already read have a white note flickering on the left hand column, and the ones that are new are orange.
  6. at the top of each forum there is a button called 'mark forum read' and at the front page there is 'mark all forums read' and then after that you can click on view unread or view your posts and just see the ones that have changed

it was the loaches I think, I don't think half of them suddenly dropped dead. There are still 6 tonight so that's a plus

such a sweet little underwater garden
  9. One of my tanks is heating up as we speak .... should be ready before the end of the week. I have a young male CPD who is on the small side, a fry I raised, he has the biggest under-tail (typing too fast to look up the proper name  ) I've seen, very prominent and coloured. Shall I use him or one of the older bigger ones? Do you want some more rasbora? I have 6 - maybe 3 brigittae and 3 maculatus with very good colour. I think I will be able to get Adrienne to help me ship them...
  10. I love that little fight at the end of the movie and then they get swept away :rotf:
  11. haha :sml2: ... I could get some cold water corydora and some hillstream loaches... hmmmm I found a 6th rasbora this evening and a dead one with bites out of it.... I think I know who the culprits are now

and I've misplaced 5 rasbora... found one dead body with bites out of it this evening
  13. moved house late last week... I think I had the full 10 or 11 rasbora at that time, I caught them for the move, then put them back home when we got to the new house. They had no more than about 1/4 of fresh water after the move as I took most of the water with me. Today I see there are 5 left. Don't know if they have been eaten or died and then eaten or what - as usual no dead bodies :dunno: . The only thing that was different other than the actual move is that for the last week I fed them quite lightly, one is looking a little skinny so I will feed them up for a while and see what happens ... this could be a good time to change the inhabitants though ....thinking about doing hillstream loaches in this tank
  14. i have 2 free tanks now, going to try this method instead of the divided tank as in my previous breeding tank experiements
  15. how big is this breeding tank? :bounce:
  16. any news on this tank? I saw some of these at HFF yesterday, am thinking seriously about converting my loach tank for some of these guys. I noticed some had larger yellow spots than the others - is that a male/female thing?
  17. thanks Liam, I enjoyed looking through those.
