  1. hmmm, look what the cat dragged in http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=133948 Frenchy
  2. You mean this one Brad? http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=346066&sid=a7601f78201de531998b56a1bd8a1062 There you go. Frenchy
  3. Sorry to read the bad news.... Yep, thats most likely it. mrskz, I would be doing some water changes, get water tested.....just incase. Should only be a problem if you use pesticides or similar. I guess the moto here is to wash out everything you add to tank. Frenchy
  4. always sad when we lose a nice fish. Frenchy
  5. Oh no, here we go again. Dam these cichlids... To me I am undecided. The pic that OOA has placed up to me is a young male specimen. Therefore I will reserve what I think to its older. Really hard to tell. I believe C. chrysonotus is ruled out, that part is easy. As for the other 2 names I have mentioned all you can go by is body shape at this stage. Frenchy
  6. nah your not the idiot  I changed it about a week or 2 ago. It's Brads brother fav saying. Frenchy
  7. C. azureus and C. chrysonotus are a different fish, I think so anyway.. You have to be careful when buying these. I know in the states that S. fryeri are been sold as C. chrysonotus. Have a look at the pics of all 3 species & see what best suits what you have OOA. Chrysonotus should have black spots, as does azureus http://www.malawi.cichlids.ru/images/fishes/copad_chryso.jpg http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/c_azureus.php http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/s_fryeri.php It's a very good quality, of what I think it is. 8. We are going around in circles. Well they didn't really, to those that have seen or kept real Kigoma. As Brad said, they are only called frontosa, as this is what all old school fronnies around the world are called. The story of the heritage is explained in a link I put up. They most likely stem back to the burundis, as explained. But you will never be 100% sure of that unless DNA is done. Its no biggy, look at all the other old school cichlids...electric yellows, black calvus, brichardi etc, all the newly exported have variants. Just the old school ones don't. Darrens are nice, he is a bit of a fronnie nut. Here we now have German Imports & wild caughts available from importers. I would, befriend a shop owner, say I want a few of these guys"variant", go to the wholesaler yourself{take shop owner too lol} & pick out exactly what you want. A friend of ours did exactly that with his Ikolas. Brad has put pics up of those. very nice!!! Frenchy
  9. I think you really do need to read me previous post again You are way off the beaten track. If you knew what was going on then you wouldn't post the comment you just made As I said think outside the box. I love to give you a hint.....but I can't. Now for me to not comment says something. I clicked, can you? Frenchy
  10. Could it be the danio post has been locked for a reason Think outside of the box maybe. Frenchy
  11. Well done... :bounce: whos a busy girl then. Stripping females collecting fry...... Frenchy
  12. It's the average Joe, who might see the hybrid, thinks it is pretty & buys it. Alot of people especially when new can't remember the names of cichlids. Newbies or those that impulse buy can create problems. Later on down the track they search the net find something similar, that must be it. They try to find more as its pretty, breed them & thats where the trouble starts. As Alan said, try to be polite. Let the lfs staff know, oh you sell cross breeds/hybrids...thats no good for the hobby. I have had the odd rude response, I made it quite clear at that point, I am not coming back & bad news travels fast. May I suggest they do some research. Frenchy
  13. Very nice john. One of the best written posts I have seen for a long time. Frenchy
  14. I would say so. Rumour has it that the males genes are very dominant. You can test the theory. If some batches are fine & some are not. Just try & remember which female fry come from. May help answer the question. Maybe you just need a new male if above dosen't work out. Or could be faulty female..... Which is rare I know  Frenchy
  15. Cool, just hoping you weren't doing anything silly like selling them as Kigomas. Frenchy
  16. I have 2 Malawi cd's. One is made by Aqua Lex. Malawisee Cichliden. Cichlids from Lake Malawi. & the other is "The Cichlids Of Lake Malawi" by Ad Konnings. Made by Cichlid press. try your lfs, or another way which I cant type in public. Frenchy
  17. A question for shell.... If one of your fronnies had 7 bars, what did you call it? Frenchy
  18. That is a shame & NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Frenchy
  19. Cool pics. Nice little guys too. Well done. Frenchy
  20. Johanne, what you have done is great. 8) I know how hard it is for someone to say, my poor fishies aren't what they were bought as. Well done again. Getting rid of the male was a good thing to do & the positive is it sounds like you got a great male, bonus. I can't really tell you about the females. As I said the top female looks like a top specimen. The others were to hard to tell. I guess compare them against each other. If the females were from the same source as the male, then I am sorry to say, they are liable to be dodgy. They would share same parents... If not who knows. Two options, anyone who has Kadangos, please pop around & see Johanne. Or Johanne any chance you can find out who bred the females. See if you can few the parents. OOA, it's hard here to find a male that colours up like that in the pic I provided. The main idea was the shape..... Remember to these fish take ages to colour up to their full potential. Frenchy
  21. it went from n-z to a-u-s & back again, and again and again..... Frenchy
  22. Ice has it's place, Mystic isn't wrong when it comes to it has a use. How practicable it is, well thats been explain a bit. There are more than 2 ways to skin a cat. This hobby is about what works for one, may not work for another. Caryl with an in built tank is a good example. People who have a small 40litre tank....ice will work. Some people missed the point at the start. Ice & water changes weren't working for the person who started the thread. Therefore the answer for fishtv was fans. If people took more time in reading posts, rather than chasing their own agenda, this post wouldn't have gone down the path it did. Frenchy
  23. I am a kiwi. So I can post what I like about us  I still support the kiwis over aussie, don't you worry about that lol. Its more in reference to how our{nz} socialist government bends over backward for the minority all the time. It was said in jest not anger  hmmm, better not lol. The topic getting heated, it's in the right thread. On that note, off to work. Hot one today, fans on. Have a good day all. Frenchy
  24. Very nice Robert, well done. Great read. Yes I know it started as a my tank thread, thanks Web. I started giving view points for others too. There were others in the same boat & fishtv did say.... I thought it turned into a great topic. Good to see people give different view points & ideas. I was surprised about the air con trial results. How about answering Brads question, Frenchy
