  1. Electric blues should be these guys, http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/s_fryeri.php Here is some good reading on them too. http://www.wetpetz.com/elecblue.htm Frenchy

Wait to the Kadango gets bigger. The peacock won't be able to get near the site at all. I would raise the fry. You will be able to see if there are hybrids by the time they 2-3cm. Make for a good food source for something bigger. Frenchy
  3. I use it. Mainly because we are in drought. So I do my water changes fortnightly rather than weekly. I think the product is great, it really poishes the water. You really do notice the difference. Brad first saw purigen used on a guys system, I think the story goes they looked longways{end to end}on an 8 foot tank & could read the writing on a poster on the wall. I soak mine in the most basic bleach I can find so that is cheap. I was lucky enough to get a heap of "SAFE" cheap, so I don't have many problems with that side of things either. I give the purigen a good smell test first, if I have any doubts, I just re soak in again with new water & more "SAFE" for another day. Frenchy
  4. Natural, so is it similar to geo liquid then? What color is it? Liquid form???? Frenchy

Yes it can happen. Usually there are two factors that prevent it. Firstly the dominant male will do his best for it not to happen. In smaller tanks it is easier for the male to control this. & In some cases the sub dominant males are not attractive enough for the female to be interested in them anyway. The lucky girl, having 2 blokes fulfilling her needs  Frenchy
  6. Cool, I have done exactly the same in my peacock days. Gee I go through some different types lol. On the mbuna & a couple of Altolamprologus at the moment. Put a pic up when the male is bigger, be cool to see. I imagine them to be like a rubin red but better? Frenchy
  7. If they import them all as that & people keep them seperate & don't confuse them. Be good in a way to have something new. At least being on a UK site is a silver lineing Frenchy
  8. The only way you can really tell with Tropheus is to vent. Frenchy
  9. Where are the proper names? :-? I mean unless it has one & they are new in the country, I would guess that to be another Asian peacock. The name sugests that too. Frenchy
  10. Gold heads are still very nice all the same. At least with alto's you can tell what they are when older... Frenchy
  11. Wow, finally some nice Tangy's about for the kiwis. Just one thing, let them know that it is Neolamprologus tretocephalus. Lamprologus was their old name. Red fin altos, cool. 8) I have had them, make for a nice change from the normal alto's. When they first came out here they fetched the same price too. Frenchy
  12. The joys of cichlids & inexperienced lfs/suppliers..... NZ really does need some Cichlid geeks in the supply/ wholesale areas to sort it out. Frenchy
  13. Oh well, at least they got the genus, just have to get the shops to work on species & location now. The joys of peacocks is that they are very hard to ID. Females impossible. If NZ has a limited number of species, it will narrow it down alot, or more than likely its just a hybrid. Frenchy
  14. I noticed my female pearl calvus protecting a bunch of eggs this morning to. Go you good thing.... Merry Xmas too. Frenchy
  15. Buy some ear plugs. You will still be able to hear the alarm if that part is a concern. Frenchy
  16. Someone order in 1000 leopard danios & throw a few of these boys in, by mistake of course  Frenchy
  17. No worries, gave me something to do  I am usually quick to jump on the cross breed bandwagon, but in the case of fronnies I just think it is old breeding lines. The good thing is from judging by the posts on the forum here, is that at least people are noticing what is good & not so good in the their fronnies. If people keep breeding the nice ones against each other, you will all have nice fronnies for years to come. 8) Frenchy
  18. Thats the part of the fronnies I am talking about. In Burundis, it is meant to be blue. Go to this page, http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/frontosa_corner.php & go to this page, there is a location map. Cyphotilapia Species Map by Ad Konings, Marc Elieson, & Eric Glab Frenchy
  19. Brad's big thing is the yellow colouration. {Thats why he thinks they have been cross bred at some stage.} It is meant to be only in a couple of variants. {Brad is away in Singapore at the moment, so may comment when he gets back.} The yellow colouration in the old school fronnies, only seems to appear in the dull ones, that as in those showing little to no blue. Is the yellow colouration the base pigment of the northern fronnies? Why do I ask? The yellow colouration only appears in the Northern variants of frontosa's, of which Burundi is one. The Burundi is the bluest of the northern variants, therefore no yellow would be visible. So if they having been line bred since the 70's, would dull fronnies show yellow? Frenchy
  20. Well done & congrats. Hope it goes well for you. Frenchy
  21. Thats the same here with all old school fronnies, they are just called frontosa. Then again, breeding fish against each other since the 70's. That is over 30 years of breeding against the same lines. Explain the odd 7 bar, variance of colour, they aren't as high bodied....Australia is a prime example of now poor quailty Cichlid species. Americans especially, nowhere near as nice & as colourful as they were 10 to 20 years ago. People have other theories,{I used to be one, but could never source proof} funnily enough those others that follow some theories can't prove them either. eg; Surely other fronnies were exported. Fish exporation was limited Lake Tangy in the old days with civil wars, technology, alligators, hippos.... fronnies also live in deeper water so the catching them & getting to the surface without killing them used to be a problem. eg;People could of mixed variants once new ones were sourced. Possible, but remember that when new variants were sourced & then exported{many years later} they came with a very hefty price tag. Mostly it was just the fanatics, people in the know...jumped on them. They would sell them on with proper name too. Frenchy
