Ok so tail type isnt transferred through Genes then? How is it transferred?

Ive had Bolivian Rams with my fighters, the fighters are the only ones that show aggression. The Rams will not attack the fighter unless they are defending some eggs or wigglers. And even then its nothing to worry about. I did how ever remove my fighters from the same tank as the rams for her own sake, she was far too obsessed with chasing the rams. Shes a lil meany though so fish personality has to come into play. If your worried about the rams nipping the fighter im fairly certain it wont happen.

My Bol rams been at it again, Only this time they have laid the eggs up the inside wall and close the the roof on the coconut cave. I can see that the very upper ones are white and therefore must not have been fertilised. the lower ones are all orange now so some might make it this time. The other thing is, they are making holes in the substrate everywhere and not spending much time fanning the eggs. They also started fighting alot today, I think Mum wants to take care of the eggs and Dad wants to care for the fry when they are ready to hatch. The fighting is getting quite bad though, I dont think they are physically harming each other but Ive never seen them fight like this before, is it common?

Eww pickle, Look for Pickled Gerkins here rather then cucumber, you'll probably have more luck. Weekend markets and boot sales usually have a old lady with a folding table covered in crocheted doyles and pickled gerkins

Raise them above the tanks, easy as. They usually have grooves in the back so it only takes 2 pins or screws in the wall.

I had the same with a bolivian ram fry, long after I though they were all gone I was vacuuming and this lil thing appeared in the bucket, had i not accidently sucked up some cory fry I wouldnt have even looked in the bucket. Put him in with Mum and Dad but I havnt seen him since I think he contributed his energy into the new spawn. Blighters dug holes everywhere too, uprooted half my plants.

lol Sam im with you there, these past 3 days have been exhausting, mentally draining. Ive been fussing though but I always will, its weird to love something so small and fishy lol. I was a mess after my first fighter died and I didnt even have him a week!

Sorry adodge can you just clarify something for me, that 11 days waiting period for the female to drop her eggs, is that without food or just very very light feeding?

Ok these are the best pics of them I could get at night, camera is all grainy under artifcial lighting and the flash just makes everything look black cept for the flash spot that reflects.

Well Im really wanting to try get some black body red tails going eventually, so it means a fairly large amount of culling, specially to begin with as I have no idea who knocked these girls up. Ill have to man up lol, But Ill want the most humane way of culling, and most humane way I can think of is being eaten by other fish, is how it would work in the wild. Only instead of the strongest surviving be the smexiest.

you have yours in dividers right sam? I found they didnt really seem like they wanted to breed till they couldnt see each other all the time. Infact, Zev wouldnt make a nest at first while she was anywhere in sight. Its the dashing to look at her then racing back to the nest that really got things started though, but still, I made her, even in the bottle I had her, there was plenty of hiding places.

yeah the thing is though, to not overfeed a fighter they dont take much at once, but corys take a little longer to eat, shes usually well and truely finished eating before the sinking food has even reached the bottom, but both my fighters feed on the bottom more then the top when its not given by hand. I usually, get the food held deep in between my fingers, with my hand curled so they have to get almost inside a loose fist, that way it takes them alot longer to eat that small amount of food, and, they dont see the sinking food sink. After that I keep their attention on me, this works great but means I have a 15 minute feeding time on 1 of my tanks, 10 mins with my hand in the water 5 distracting her. She also likes a tickle so that helps with distraction too. Dispite all this effort she still eats more then I would like her too lol.

Thanks adodge! Im fairly certain they are compatible though, I think she was just holding for far far too long. Last night she looked like she really wanted out of the bottle but I was too nervous.

hehe well it looks like Ill need to have a few fry munched up, so I can get them breeding with my male. Perhaps the cats can enjoy fresh, home grown fish. Aww I feel mean even thinking about it
