  1. Ive noticed the change too, my bol rams are now in a tank with black silica they seem far far happier, I also think the texture has made a difference too on them though, from course gravel for the ugf too this nice fine silica. The corys are loving it too, also put a black background on that tank seening as no fighters are in there to stress over nasty reflection fish.

    Pheromones

Do the females fighters give off pheromones in the water that might stimulate the males into making nests? Im not trying to breed em just yet but im just wondering about the chemical signals they might use.
  3. The way I see things is.... Bigger fish wont fit in the axo's mouth but that doesnt mean it wont try, and could end up hurting itself. They also can peck at the axo's gils. And they generate more waste that might make water conditions a bit hard on the axo. Smaller fish should be considered feeders when putting them in and losses expected. Try to stay clear of fish with sharp spines and anything that might hurt the axo.
  4. Ill get some piccys tomorrow, its Tua vs Cameron fight is on today so I wont be around alot, And I need to get some more plants, 4 plants spread over 3 tanks isnt enough Need some nice ones that dont require much in the way of ferts and lighting. Thats a shame Zev, although I think you might be on the a new trend, the Betta Hair Doo, you can get it either normal or flared
  5. Zev I cant thank you enough, hes beautiful and so healthy looking! Settling in well to a feed of live daph
  6. yeah I tried the macro, tried every function it has, best mode seems to be everything auto and thats still rubbish. Its like a $60 cannon I think does everything Mum needs it for great. I dont wanna go into the stores and ask their advice coz they'll push something completely useless on me and im the kinda sucker to fall for it lol.
  7. FRIDAY! LIL ZEV! WHOOO! lol Im supposed to be a tough guy! Fish turn me into a giggling school girl!
  8. Thats nice sam I remember we sent dachshund puppies to invercargill and 3 were in 1 crate, but later that year we sent 2 adults, and they had to be in serperate crates.
  9. If you can have 2 in 1 crate it will cost the same but I doubt they will let you, Maybe strap one on the underside of the other and just save they're siamese twins!
  10. I wont let ya see my female then, shes well fed lol. Hapu too so some rowe there also
  11. Either way I dont imagine boiled betta is very nice. Be like filleting whitebait
  12. I assumed the worst, considering his name choice for that lil goat I want named Feta was gc (goat curry)
  13. Oi! lol Ill hunt ya a pig or dear if you want meat! Dont boil my lil Zev!
  14. Ok Ive been talking to my Nan and I need to get a camera for my studies anyway, the lovely lady has decided she'll buy me one with a value up to $200. I wont mind paying more on that myself to make sure I get something great. Basically, with my career choice (hope to be a ranger) and my life style I need something that can take a bit of a knock, and perhaps get wet. Also I want something that can acually take clear pics of my tanks and fish, is there anything reasonably priced that can provide all of the above? Also, for the next Photo of the month, I want to get some pics done of my fighter jumping out of the water catching mozzies from my hand, I remember my uncle has an old film camera once that used to take 4 pictures in sucesssion rather then the one, he used it to tune his golf swing. This would be perfect for the pic i want to capture but he sold it years ago and his digital is only barely better then mums one which is aweful for pics of fish and fish tanks as you might be well aware of. Thanks very much for you time peeps Matt
  15. I dont think Im gunna be able to sleep tonight haha! Lil Zev is coming! :bounce:
  16. Aaah great stuff, once again p44 your a real gem. Ill set a timer up tonight Cheers
  17. Hmmm this one has me lol, Mum has a friend who loves rabbits and has quite a few, shes gunna ask her if she wants another one, this would be such a loving home if she wants her, Rabbits rule the household there. I wish I was in a situation I could have her but the zoo is expanding almost daily now lol. Not to mention my cat Dougie brings home all the neighbourhood cats through the catdoor, as well as their daily bird to torment then let go in the house to scare my Nan half to death. I'll let you know, I dont mind making a trip either, shes such a cutey.
  18. kk hehe this one might take some looking into then, thanks p44 your a champ. Im guessing that most of the light apart from the plant pro are more about the light effect in the visual aspect of the tank rather then the growing of the plant? Powerglo seems a lil mean on the fish to me now lol. 150000 like what im running now is bright as it may as well be day time in the tanks. Newbie Q. your not supposed to leave these on overnight right? My fish are sleeping soundly at the moment with it on but I sure wouldnt like it, only have it on coz im looking in the tank, had some free swimming fry appear from out of the gravel so im watching it like a hawk. Parents are rounding them up now, maybe eating them but I can see a few swimming around dad.
  19. Sorry p44 but powerglo means what exactly apart from the obvious? Is it just tubes over a certain wattage? or a type?
  20. just checked the tube its a 15000k not 18

    Aliens of the Deep

Academy Award winning director, deep ocean adventurer, and space exploration visionary James Cameron combines his filmmaking talents with his personal passions on a journey to some of the Earth's deepest, most extreme and unknown environments in search of the strange and alien creatures that live there. Joining him is a team of young NASA scientists and marine biologists who share his interests as they consider how these life forms represent life we may one day find in outer space not only on distant planets orbiting distant stars, but also within our own solar system. Aliens of the Deep is the result of dramatic and visually stunning expeditions to several hydrothermal vent sites in the Atlantic and the Pacific. These are violent volcanic regions where new planet is literally being born and where the interaction between ocean and molten rock creates plumes of super-heated, chemically-charged water that serve as unimaginable oases for animals unlike anything ever discovered. Six-foot tall worms with blood-red plumes and no stomach, blind white crabs, and an inconceivable biomass of shrimp capable of "seeing" heat all compete to find just the right location in the flow of the super-heated, life-giving water or to fry trying. Not dependent on sunlight (like all other life on earth), these ecosystems are as close to alien as anything ever imagined and provide one possible blueprint for the life that might exist beyond our world. Aliens of the Deep takes audiences on that very journey deep beneath the sea and far into the reaches of our universe to encounter alien life, face to face, and to inspire a new generation of exploration. This is hosted on a chinese site I believe, its why I painstakingly made sure each part was correct rather then letting you try find all the other parts yourselves Enjoy. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
  22. my al-20 was an ex display on a tank, cost me $22 so im wrapped asked if they had anything else but someone had just bought a whole bunch of ex display stuff off them only minutes before.
  23. Hmm well my Bolivians seemed not to concerned about being chased, but my fighter constantly trying to keep up with them while flaring was wearing her out, so it was more of a concern for her then the rams, when i put her in another tank her colours relaxed and she seemed alot happier. I wouldnt wanna leave him in there too long, cant be pleasant really, but better then getting into fights i guess.
