Oh yeah I can see the difference thanks morcs. Ill have to look into that co2 thing then I dont really understand it at the moment, I dont know what plants I have at the moment either let alone what I want lol.

Hehe well I think you've done a fabulous job anyway, your tank and morcs have been a big inspiration.

One thing ive learnt about bolivians is they are big blouses. The only time they ever showed any sign of sticking up for themselves was when they were watching the eggs or fry. And even then it wasnt enough to stop my girl shes ruthless ( her new abnme is Ruth ). Carefull with ya fighters aye, I seen my boy and girl fighting it wasnt pretty Im just so lucky I was there with them. They were fine together for ages, then something just happened that changed everything, none were hurt luckily but gave me a hell of a fright. If your bolivians start getting those stripes over their eyes more darker then usual, they might be up to some freakiness. I found that line got darker and darker the closer to spawning time, and once spawned it was very vivid and black. jc360 on this site has bolivians galore and breeds some real beauties, anything about bolivians they're the ppl to ask, Im dying to get my large tank up and running to get another 2 pair off them. They are beautiful fish, and very good parents, and yeah that kissing is a good sign they're pairing up by the sounds of things, good luck with them. I love bolivians would love to see someone else getting into them a lil too.

I got 1 59cm 20w maybe a lil too low for Riccia? its looks amazing sam, I think once my 240 ltr is finished you might notice where i got alot of my ideas from lmao. Also the standard tubes that a Aqua One AL -20 comes with are they suited for plants or just for the effect it makes in the tank? its like a slightly bluish violet, the colour it brings out in the fish is incredible but im wondering if thats its sole purpose lol. How many ways can you get CO2 to the plants? Ive seen though stone looking things

I lost all the fry, managed to save 2 but they died, I think the fanning makes a difference to the lil guys, one was just free swimming last night but I couldnt find it today, most likely got too close to a cory mouth or something. Yeah watch the fighters, I had to remove my female fighter from the tank as she was harrassing them none stop and stressing herself out, but now shes all alone and takes up alot of my time paying attention to her, I wish there was another fish she would tolerate, personality makes a difference though I guess, my late male fighter was a sweety.

OMG I love jumping fish, I want to get a photo of my female fighter jumping to get a mozzie from my hand its looks incredible how she coils up, takes aim then leaps. Mums camera just doesnt work well for taking pic of a still fish in an aquarium, I tried but it was just a blur, guess I might have to splash out one of these days on a nice camera.

This kind of relates to me in a way too, Ill have the tanks, but its the filtering I need to change. All ugf at the moment and thats no good really, already had ram fry sucked into the gravel. 4 smaller tanks at the moment im getting ready for breeding in, but Im wondering would I have to get a small hob filter for each or would there be a cheaper method using 1 filter and a sump or something? seems like its getting tricky then though, I wont be letting them spawn till I got room to hold them all and seperate the boys when they get older, I was thinking about setting up a small shelving unit (like what I think Barrie has for his killies)

When I bought my timber for my stand at mitre 10 mega, they had to cut it anyway, so I just quickly threw some lines on what he'd finished cutting and handed it back to him. Take a tape measure, a square, builder pencil and your plans down to a timber yard, they're usually quite happy to cut it for you, some charge for this though. Yeah the other option is 2nd hand furniture, I tend to stay away from this as alot of modern furniture is pure mdf and the solid wood stuff is very expensive, you would most likely be better off paying the $485 or w/e it is. If your not initially concerned about the apperance of the tank, then it should be quite cheap. Mines 120x45x45 All the wood cut came to just under $50, all up with the mdf, paint and handles on the cuboards and hinges Ill still be under $100 or there abouts. I do have a bit of stuff laying around though but its still very reasonable, considering the quote I got from a cabinet maker especially
-
Im making my own, I have the plans drawn up I could probably get a pic of them tomorrow for you. Its not too difficult, most places will cut the wood you want at the lengths you want, Im using dowling and liquid nails to join everything and angle iron in the corners to further strengthen it. Im just using rough sawn timber for the frame and top, the top im using treated pine incase it gets a bit wet at times it wont warp. Then its just a matter of covering it in mdf to make it look pretty. Surely theres someone in your area that will help ya build one on a weekend for some lunch and a couple of cold ones.

aww dont you dare lol shes lovely -
Oh yours looks alot nicer then mine lol. Maybe because of the lighting though, mines kinda stringy and spread, growing fast though. I dont have any lighting as of yet, might go look into that now acually. Im thinking of making a tank just for plants, I got 2 beautiful ones yesterday, though have no idea what they are called One has thick almost looks like land living plant leaves, green on top and red on the bottom, the other almost looks like young fennel.

Ferrets arnt rodents are they? Its a shame we cant keep them anymore but they amount I get in my possum traps, as well as stoats and weasles is beyond belief. I had 2 ferrets when i grew up and they were great pets. Rats are too, my sisters rat is a nutter, I just let him run wild in my room, he goes back to his cage to use the bathroom too so its great. Only keep 1 rat though if it will have alot of handling and attention, otherwise get it a friend. I would recommend a rat though.
-
wow thats some fast growth sam, I just got some plants yesterday I think Ill have to be a lil more careful lol. Also what is that type of plant that someones hand is touching in pic? I really like it, is it a floater or rooted?

wow hunt around $17 for 25kg bag at the pool shop here.

OMG thanks Zev I cant wait! 2 more days!

haha I can imagine that, mine spawn alot but just eat the eggs as shes laying them, any left she'll eat them herself, When i put them in the smaller tank to give the rams some room to spawn, I've noticed some eggs dotted on the fake plant, still white though so most likely unfertilized, Im sure ill get albino corys soon though. I was reading that BBS for cory fry is a big no no, they cant take the salt. Rams look to be getthing ready for another try too

could be so caryl coz my corys usually spawn late at night or very early morning. It depends what lighting you use as to how closely it resembles the sun. There are many spectrums of light that come with each ray of sunlight, not just UV, also the heat factor, I ve used high end indoor lighting for my carnivorous plants. I dont know how much and what gets filtered out through the water itself, also bearing in mind most natural enviroments dont have clear glass sides, light only comes through the surface. White light from eco bulbs will penetrate the water, they dont supply heat how ever but I cant see that being a factor here. They give just enough to get seedlings raised in an incubator, but then a yellow light must be added to supply the heat. There are many species of animal that dont directly live in light how ever, but still depend on it. I think this is interesting.
-
Id have to agree there to any creature whos natural enviroment has sun light, we ourselves need sun light for vitamin D so I can only imagine the same applies to most living creatures. With the exceptions of extremeophiles who get their energy from other means. I remember there being a post on here not so long ago about guppies having spine deformaties. How ever, I wouldnt worry too much about the corys if they get natural sunlight in there for a few hours a day it should be enough, we only need 5 mins of sunlight on our hands to get our daily vitamin d requirements. I only have the sun as my lighting, corys and bolivians spawned to must be plenty.

When I was looking after the Axo, the lps sold feeder fish, 5 for $1. They were never 1 particular type of fish from week to week, I think the manager used this as his way of culling off what he didnt want to breed with. The axo would eat 1 every 3 or 4 days there abouts, kept him very active and happy looking.

Eeek come home to 2! broken heaters! they are on a surge protector but I guess it didnt help or something. They wire coils inside look to have snapped. I guess 1 week delay on getting the new talk set up now lol, this is the way of life I guess. Good news though I have 2 wigglers now, not free swimming yet but should be tomorrow or tonight if they make it. Gunna get them some novotom, I wont bother with bbs for 2 fry, we got some nice spinich there do you think pureed that will be ok for them ? just till they big enough for daph
-
try a few feeder fish every now and then, they like ambushing them, gives them something to do too.

Yeah only rams and corys, and yeah was me....Heres how i figured things when down, when I seen the parents picking the eggs off the rock they used, they we taking turns at it. I think they were hiding them in the corner right over the grid of the UGF. After carrying their new young back into that corner they soon must have noticed they were gone. And gave up with the whole thing, they havnt been defending that corner, and the male constantly chases the female around again like they did the day before they spawned. Now I have the fry in the bottle I see the behavior I should have done, they are both right next to the bottle and defending it from the corys now. Its the only evidence that its a ram fry. The corys spawn in what seems like a constant wasted effort, as they eggs are always instantly eaten. Its great to see these 2 acting like parents again though because they seem very good at it, I dont think an UGF is the best for fry though, I would just hate to think how many are trapped in the gravel. I cant get a pic, this thing is barely visable, mums camera just isnt high enough definition. If it survives the next 2 days Ill get it some novotom or something, heres hoping hes got his fins crossed, i got my fingers crossed. Hmm it looks like neither really but much closer the the ram fry, it must be a little younger then the one in that pic it has less defined eyes, and very yellow yolk sack.

I dont know a hell of a lot about anything like this, but I hear lots that bloodworms should be a treat rather then the main food source, perhaps its some kind of blockage or constipation? Have you tried giving it some pea? squash it out of the shell and give him that see if he takes it, apparently they help with things like this some times. Hopefully a guru will be able to give you some real advice soon
-
Ok Ive saved 1 lol, hes far too small to show up on mums camera. used the tube to from my gravel vac to gently suck it up, hes in a small soft drink bottle sitting in my tank, hope hes got at least 2 days left on his yolk sack tho as I'll be off bush till late tuesday night.
