  1. Alrightly, looking to add some new fish but stumped for ideas. Have given a way a few fish recently and current stock is: 2 x blue rams 2 x GBA but ones getting a bit bigger so may also been given away to a good home 2 x dwarf chain loaches 4 x glowlight dani 6 x rummy nose Now I could add another 6 rummy nose to replace the neons I passed off but thinking there might be some other ideas. Have had dwarf rainbows before but they never seem to last more than 6-12 months so the wife has banned them lol. Possibly hatchets or some giant danios to get a bit more top water action? Once the larer GBA goes I may add a 2-3 smaller corys or the like. Anyone got any ideas on fish that may work well with current stock? Cheers JK
  2. Yeah had guessed you had eaten early Barrie based on the time of your post. Things should only pick up for them with summer approaching. Those outside of peak season months must be the tough ones for the establishments like that down there.
  3. Barrie - we may have been there on their first weekend then! How busy was it? Was pretty quiet when we were there but like you we ate pretty early
  4. Have eaten there before Barrie and you are right its pretty good quality. Service wasn't bad either. We were there on the saturday before last while down at the bach (matarangi) I wasnt too sure if it was aimed at the local coro folk though or more the tourists or Aucklanders down there at their holiday homes Hope the party goes ok - PM me the address Barrie - more than happy to pop in and check all is as it should be
  5. thanks smidey. Dont know how I missed it
  6. Saw these and am interested too. Did a search and picked up the thread I posted on earlier today but wasnt much to go on there. Might try dig out that old thread lmsmith mentioned All sounds quite positive though.
  7. Did anyone end up trying one of these out? Seems to be a few more stockists in NZ now then compared to 6 or 12 months ago.

Gotta wonder how some of their slack staff and those with poor attitudes re customer service slip through the new then....
  9. Fishing can be quite alright there. Recommend a day out on a charter if thats your thing.
  10. Never tried anything myself but have had my water a bit green tinged at times. Lights are on 11 hours a day, no direct sun light, plants grown like wildfire and require weekly pruning when I do my weekly 20% water change. Might cut back lights to 10 hours
  11. Oh so this issue is with USING it not BUYING it? Understand. I dont really like adding anything to my tanks other than fish, plants, food and water - you just don't know what in some stuff. Hell even plants and fish are a risk at times!
  12. Exactly. The retailer can't really say 'why don't you try list it on trademe' as you could then remind them that you don't have a computer. Could even just say you thought it was an iphone.....
  13. What is the issue with algae clear??
  14. Ipod Schmiiipod Take it back and say you thought it was something else. Play dumb and they may feel sorry for you and refund. Worth a shot

I would have but 1) the manager and another senior staff member were the ones having a chinwag blocking the doorway and 2) the place is such a joke I wont be going back there anyway so personally no point in wasting even more of my time in that store. As per my orig post, its not the place I would usually shop or buy fish based on prior experiences. Prefer to support Pupuke as my lfs. It's just a bit dissappointing when you get an email about their fish of the week and then pop in there to check em out and they dont even have any in stock lol. And then the service experience you get just reinforces and reminds you while you dont usually go there anyway.

Normally buy em 10 for $20 but thats not my point. Just the lack of service etc. The whole experience was distinctly average yet so memorable
  20. I don't normally buy fish or really anything from my local Animates but popped in there today as I received the weekly fish club email stating assorted Danio's were the fish of the week on special. Thought by chance that they may have had some giant or pearl danios and if the quality appeared ok (usually doesn't) I could have been tempted to bring a few home to quarantine. Got to the door to find it pretty much blocked by 2 staff members about a foot inside having a good old fashioned chinwag. Had to give the old 'excuse me' just to get in the store. Didnt waste any time in shooting around to do a quick look through the tanks. No Danios to be seen whatsoever. Actually there may have been some in one of the corner tanks which I couldnt get near as two of the younger staff members were sitting in front of them with one of their non staff mates planning their weekend and catching up on last weekends party. Sounded like a real goodie. Someone had got really drunk and felt pretty bad the next day but I digress, as well, that's not what I was there. Thought I'd ask a staff member if they knew what the deal was with the fish of the week. As I headed towards the counter, one of them approached me (well so I thought) and I said "Hi'' to which in return I received a smile as she walked on by to join the party in the corner. :-? Anyway, nothing really bad happened at all, but the experience was just so average that, for not the first time, I walked out the door shaking my head in disbelief. Btw, have prices skyrocketed or something? neon tetras for $3.99 each
  21. cheers Nick - got given it from my brother in law actually as he had an even more awesome peice of wood in his tank. I'll need to trim back some of the longer algae up the top though, grows real well up by the light
  22. A couple more.... Failed on the 'better shots' but ya get the idea
  23. Another update as its been so long. Here is a pic I uploaded on another post re black backgrounds but will try take some more (and better) shots tonight or tomorrow. No real changes to the habitants 2 x blue rams, 2 x GBA, 6 neons, 6 rummy nose, 2 dwarf chain loachs and 6 glowlight danios. One of the GBA is getting a bit big for my liking so may be looking to offload to a good home at sometime soon.
