Might sound like a pretty straight forward question but where do you like to buy your tropical fish from? Do you have a favourite LFS? Or any that you highly recommend or even try to stay away from? Or do you prefer to buy off local breeders? Do you do this through trademe or are there other sources? I've bought from a few of my LFS' and sometimes I have doubted the quality based on the number of dead fish in tanks and sometimes random unexplained losses. Been thinking that maybe local breeders are a better way to go. Cheers JK

no matter how much luck i got i doubt i'll get 2 pair from 2 males and a female lol maybe 1 pair could be ok then Sure they are glow danios? From what I understand they are some illegal GM variants. Glowlight danios on the other hand are all good and I assume what you saw - they are what I have.

Ahh good one fishfingers I am the one who asked about pairs and colouring sorry I should have said glowlight danios.

I had heard they were a bit more hardy than blue rams. Blue Rams do really appeal to me tho as love those colours rather than the pinks etc seen on the butterfly

Hey guys and gals Been thinking of the next fish to buy for my tank. At the moment I have 3 pearl danios and a couple of glowlight danios and whilst I want to get more of these I think I would like something different first. Oh plus I have a couple of bristlenose. Tts a 120ltr tank btw. Have always wanted Blue Rams but have just seen some butterfly rams on trademe, still young at about 3-4cm. Anyway have any comments on these fish? Cheers JK

Hmmm well the cat has passed away now. Now to work out why and hope no other fish follow the same fate...

looks perfectly fine from a visual point of view

over the last few days it seems to have gained some extra bouyancy and now does a pretty good impersonation of a hot air balloon. First noticed the over it looked as if it was standing upright on its tail but in fact it was hovering just off the ground. Now it look like as if it is having trouble keeping itself down low and is drifting up to the top of this tank in this position. Anyone got any ideas what is going on here? Btw, all other fish seem fine and I've checked Ph, nitrite, nitrate, amonia and theres nothing out of the ordinary there.

I have turned that off a few days ago to see if it makes any difference. If it makes any difference, the spray is the one with the natural petheryns and as stated earlier is in a totally different part of the house. But its high on my listed of suspected causes. The last neons are now dead and it just leaves the bristlenose. I think today I till do another large water change, treat with furan2 and then eventually start to cycle the tank again with the hope that the 2 bristlenose can get through it all. Does this sound sensible?

Guys and gals I need your help here.... I'm losing fish and cant seem get things back on the right track. The history of this problem can be seen on the link below so if you could refer to that it would be great http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/first- ... 28099.html Over the last 2 days I've done 30-40% water changes (have used combination of aged and tap water treated with aqua plus) and right throughout this problem all the checks are coming up ok but there are sick fish in there thats for sure. Latest tests today show ph at 7.0 which is a wee bit high but most likely due to all the water changes. Temp is 26-27deg, amonia, nitrate and nitrite all pretty much nil. All I have left are a handful of neons and 2 bristlenose. The Bristlenose are pretty much just chilling and not overly active at all. The neons while active appear a bit wonky. No one wants to eat so there hasnt been any feeding last few days. The gills look a bit inflamed on the neons and with the hatchets that died they had what appeared to be fin rot. Cloudy white tinges on the edge of the fins and the fins then pretty much shredded away. The tank is 105ltr with the over the top filter aqua plus style. Tank was set up in late Dec and seemed to have cycled well. The only thing I can pinpoint is that we have a robocan in the house but its not anywhere near the tank and the tank has a lid. My GUESS is that maybe the tank hasnt cycled properly and has some type of bacteria in its that is not good. Interested in your thoughts and a plan of attack for getting this thing back on track.

Sounds a bit excessive, especially when the tank is still in its early stages and cycling?

Well tonights update, no deaths while at work today so thats a bonus. The fish that are left (bristlenose and neons) are still swimming ok but do look a bit lazier than usual thats for sure. Did a 30% water change tonight - i have some aqua plus - is that suitable to conditioning water from the tap so can be used in the tank straight away? (as long as PH is ok) Will do another water change of the same tomorrow.

The tank is covered and does have a lid but there are some tiny holes that I guess it could get in to.

Somehting just hit me...we have a robocan with the 100% natural pyretherin. It's in the kitchen so not the same room as where the tank is but it is in the house. Wondering if this has had some impact?

Thanks mate When doing water changes that big I is difficult to age the water. I have 5 buckets for the fish tank only (good old bunnings 78cents) so I can fill those and age for 24hours. That should give 40ltrs but thats only about 40% water change
