thanks N1CK and xxdarnixx I might have to get some to top up my tank.
Have ambulia in mine and reckon it looks pretty good with a dark susbtrate. What fish of yours are destroying it?
where are you sourcing the midnight black fine gravel?
I struggled to find any fine black gravel acouple of years back and ended up going fluorite which is far from a cheap option.
Looking forward to seeing the tank too.
Interesting post this as it just caught my eye whilst thinking about what precautions I should be taking when I put my new cannister filter in to effect over the next few days. With the setup I have, I will be unable to keep the existing filter running but will transfer over some of the noodles etc as part of the process.
Must be my bad luck then eh guys and probably serves me right for not quarantining anyway but there are shops I will go to and shops I no longer won't (same for any product / service really). Especially when I can get better prices elsewhere rather than having to buy 10 of the fish of the week
Yes but the more you buy from Animates, the more you risk contaminating your own stock with their nasties.....
I dont have lots of qurantine tanks so after previous experiences, I dont take the risk with buying from there.
Sounds like everything is going quite well actually. Just be patient as it will take abit longer on bigger tanks.
And for what its worth - I too use TLC - its an excellent product and may help thjings along a bit further.
P44 - I know of a few roles going in the banks at the moment. Unfortunately nothing in PB or Wgtn but I know round the traps in Auckland theres some good opportunities in both finance and asset management / credit. Would need a bit of experience though.
Nah I meant black fluorite but yep too good and expensive to use for a non-planted tank. It's an option though albeit a pricey one

Cool - thanks P44 - will look those 2 plants up and see what they are all about.
Yeah the GBA probably didnt need to go but the wife said it repulsed here lol. Plus I have very fine substrate and found it was leaving massive long snakey poops everywhere - easy to syphon i know but thought someone else may appreciate it more than 'we' did.
I think he also may have been the culprit for munching down my wee amazon sword. Have kept the smaller one though. Quite strange how different they were in size given I got them both about a year ago as very juvenile fish
No new fish as yet but have got rid of my largest GBA to make space (and less poop  ). Plus I have changed the powerhead feeding the hoodfilter and upped the flow from 450ltr/hr to 900ltr/hr. Hood seems to be handling it fine with no overflows and fish seem to like the added current.
Couple new pics added below
Next steps
= few new plants to get things looking a bit better
= new fish - 3-4 small corys - maybe juli or panda and possibly some giant or pearl danio or hatchets for some top water action
Standard one with my tank was 450 ltr/hr
This one is 900ltr/hr so a big step up.
If I take a bit off using the outlet maybe 750-800ltr could be a good target. Still got it going at full tit right now and its cleared up the tank pretty dam quick after the mess i made mucking about with it late this arvo
boxturtle on trademe has them but doesnt list them unless you ask - has the tanks though so just ask on there if ever need one.
mines been running fine too but just wanted to try fit a bigger one to up the filter capabilities
no such fitting with the other powerhead as it only had 1 inlet and 1 outlet.
I have found a cap that fits over my 2nd outlet - might drill a small hole in it to relieve some of the filter flow and add a wee bit of current to the tank.
btw, if you need spare powerheads - can source for $16-20 each so nice and cheap!
thanks all.
Have blocked it for the time being and the top one goes to the filter on top of the tank. Might have to unblock that second one though and put some current in to the tank as at the moment the filter on top is going pretty hard. Powerhead flows 900ltr/hr vs previous one of 450ltr. Plenty of flow for a 110ltr tank!
Rightio,
In the processing of putting a higher flow powerhead on the filter in my tank. The new one (similar to pictured) has an extra outlet(?) on the bottom where as the previous one didnt.
Where would this normally connect to or be used for?
For the meantime I am just going to block it off somehow.
Thanks for sharing Wayne
Are you talking about the Sun Sun externals or internals? Sounds like externals re priming.
good to hear your positive comments.
Couple of different people selling them on trademe - one has 6month warranty, the other 12.
Managed to purchase a 2nd internal powerhead off one of them for $16 in case the other one craps out for some reason. He's send me a higher flow rate one so might just put that one in instead and see what difference it makes.
Hmm hadnt thought about pencils - never really been a fan though.
Wandered the lfs on sunday but didnt see much that took my interest....so hard to please!
