  1. I've used both drift wood from the beach, and swamp wood off several farms and never had any probs. The drift wood seems to sink reasonably quickly and may slightly tinge the water but after a few water changes clears up. The swamp wood seems to take a lot longer to sink and can leach and make the water go tea colored, which isn't a problem if you have a Amazon biotope I guess. You really need to soak it for several months, but I never have. Our latest driftwood is Macrocarpa and hasn't leached at all but after about 3 months it still isn't sinking......hmmmph. I guess if you get swamp wood from a peat paddock it may cause your PH to drop, though I'm not positive about that, I'm sure someone here would be able to clear that up.
  2. ...Well, my son's mouse, he seems to be scratching a lot lately, well, more than usual, does anyone know if it's safe to use a cat/dog flea powder? .Or would it be a bit harsh for the wee guy? .Or should we go to the pet shop for specialist stuff?
  3. Our gold spot and BN come out all the time, they're especially partial to zucchini, though the gold spot sits on it and won't let anyone else have any, same with the pleco tablets.
  4. Saw this thing on the amazon river on animal planet last week, they showed this huuuuuge ghost knife, prolly big enough to give a person a scare.

  11. heheh, my first bike was a GN 250, cool little bike, slow but reliable and economical, traded it in at Phill Turnbulls for a GSXRR. that was the exact opposite.
  12. I recommend a mazda familia, awesome wee motor. What type of bike you got? <--------- (Motorbike freak) 8)
  13. cheers peeps, another example of retailers selling whatever to make a buck. We explained that we wanted a video camera that would take good stills, no one explained that video cameras don't take good stills. we're prolly going to have to drop out of the comp now as a new camera is fairly low on the priority list, have to have a look at what's on TM I guess.
  14. A few years back we came into some money and bought ourselves a Sony DCR-DVD610, wasn't expensive but wasn't cheap either. Takes good photos outside, but inside photos are terrible. And now with the small tank comp we're finding we can't take competitive pics at all. They're all dark and have no detail, we've been through the manual and changed the settings as best we can but nothing is helping. So we were wondering if anyone had any experience with this particular model or if anyone had any hints regarding lighting and taking good clear Aquarium photos, thanks all
  15. Aye, same happened to us, quarantined for 2 weeks, checked closely before adding to main tank and within 2 days we had whites spot, went pretty quickly though. So I second longer the better.
  16. howzit mate, welcome aboard.
  17. Lol, I'm fairly new the fish keeping and I'm struggling to Imagine a fish small enough to fit in a tank that's big enough to eat a oscar, aren't oscar's huge and mean as??
