  1. For various reasons we've had to temporarily shut our tanks down, but we're hoping to set them up again after Christmas. We're slowly and carefully making up our wish list and at the top is a royal panaque, but all the images on google are of the black and white stripy ones. Our local fish shop had a beautiful blue one , it's texture was like velvet. Does anyone have any idea of which model it may have been? Also, do you have to replace the bog wood over time or is their wood eating abilities a bit of a fallacy? Thanks all
  2. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 724071.htm here you go....right up your alley I reckon
  3. Cheers boss. We're not local any more, bout an Hour away.
  4. Just looking at a Jebo R7 Curved all in one tank on "that" site. I've heard some mixed reviews about most of the jebo stuff, most notably the heaters......are the tanks OK or should we steer clear? In the pics it looks pretty classy. Cheers all.
  5. That'd be a giant bully then. http://www.doc.govt.nz/conservation/nat ... ant-bully/
  6. I'm not arguing with you as I don't really know but I read some where on these forums that you shouldn't feed them fish flakes as they're bad for them or something, we did and all but one of ours died.
  7. Some inspiration though we've since replaced the wild caught native ferns with shop bought ones as we've found the wild stuff didn't like being taken from out side and plomped inside. By all accounts northern golden bells don't need as much water a southern ones.
  8. She's only quite young which matches her posts so I have patience and understanding when reading them and so do all us other older forum members, as you'll notice, all the members who seem to love poking fun at her are all young and full of....well you know, perhaps as they grow older they will learn to appreciate all the members here and have a little patience and understanding themselves?
  9. Yeah, if it's making a noise and nothing is happening it'll most likely be the Impeller, especially if it's particularly noisy. It doesn't take much for the impeller to give up the ghost, we had to buy a new one for our 380 the other day and it still didn't work, after close inspection we discovered the new one had wee pits on the magnet. You shouldn't need to do any sucking, just turn on the power and away she'll go. A lot of people seem to get annoyed with the noise after a while and get a canister, but we got a canister as well as the built in filter in our AR850 and the result is a very low maintenance tank with crystal clear water and brightly coloured healthy fish.
  10. We just used a cardboard box in the end , lay news paper then damp handy towels on top, put in their plants. they seem happy enough, thanks all.
  11. We're moving tomorrow, but as of yet haven't broken down the terrarium, prolly do it last minute, it's only an hour away, but we're a little unsure of the safest way to move them,. Should we just put em in a ice cream container?, or one frog per container?, do they need some leaf litter or something or is a bare container OK? Cheers all.

  17. Just 5 minutes out of Kamo, down Crane Road, which is off Pipiwai Road. It should show up on google maps, thats how I find everything around here, Carlos knows alot more places around here than I do. We are at 150 Crane Road.

  20. Yes, apparently cats are the worst for having nasty bites. The vet told us that it depends on the victim as to what sort of infection they get. Sometimes an abscess will come up straight away, sometimes it can take up to 4-5 days to appear, sometimes they can just go off their food for a day or so and then bounce back. Our wee girl was the worst one, hopefully she will come right. She gets her drain out and collar off tomorrow.
  21. We grabbed a cage from the SPCA and caught it the night it attacked our wee boy, and it has since been taken to the SPCA. Apparently it is a pet. I had to take our wee fella to the vet yesterday as well, he had a high temp, but with a course of antibiotics and anti infective drugs he should be okay.
