  1. Can someone list all the lizard species (dragons, skinks, geckos) that are allowed in NZ, and that are available (not necessarily through retailers) Cant seem to find the info. Thanks :bounce:

Update. Everything seems to be working and functioning well. Water params are improving, ammonia has dropped a lot. PH and KH are low since I removed a lot of the dead rock. PH 7.6 KH 6 deg Am 0.25 Nitri 0 Nitra 10 Anyways, I am delighted that I have algae. And is that a tube worm or something in one of the pics?

    Giant fighters!

Not sure yet. all i was told was plakats. Id expect these guys to be around the $60 mark in the shops judging by the wholesale price. Hope they are decent quality.

Macro algae will aborb nitrogenous compounds, so youll need algae, with light. Or you could get a 100ml pouch of seachem purigen and throw that in there instead... will do a much better job at keeping nitrates etc.. at 0 hopefully. Skimmer helps, means you can stock heavier and feed heavier if you so wish - removes dissolved organic solids before they turn into nitrogenous compounds. I have a nano power skimmer on my 80L and it seems to work ok - all the rock has decaying stuff coming off it all the time, and the skimmer is skimming. Im no expert btw, im just doing my first SW too.

For hang-on Nano skimmers I hear and have read great things about the Aqua C Remora's. As there is no NZ distributor ive been speaking to them direct and got some pricing. heres what they said: (Price is USD, worked out about $300 NZ for the standard Remora including shipping.)

    KH levels

KH is very important on planted tanks. Not that its high, but that it is monitored and controlled IMO. Purely because if the plants strip all the nutrients and carbonates out of the water, you KH will drop dangerously low, thus increasing the risk of a PH crash - and Co2 obviously lowers PH also. Good regular WC, and complete dosing with ferts and macro nutrients, and you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

    Golden Rams!

They are on special at Animates for $20 this week. Really good quality too
  9. Silver $. even a pair will be good entertainment. they dont cost the earth either. I love them for their erratic behaviour. and when they get biggish they look pretty badass and paranha-esque
  10. Are back. Expect too see them in a LFS near you soon! Hopefully ill have one by thursday and ill let ya'll know what they are like.
  11. Idve gone with the C17 or C25 anyway. they are still really small units
  12. How big are the tanks? In theory you could run 30x 60L tanks with a 10x'ish turnover per hour
  13. Reptile one do a 10% tube I think Arcadia do one too. Compacts are available too. Lucky reptile supply a 10.0 UV bulb. Im using the exo terra 26W 5.0 compacts at the moment. need to get myself a couple 10.0
  14. Good decision, if you went to see a discus breeder at their house, one that has at least 30 tanks, then imagine the cost and powerbill of running that many canisters... Or worse still, the risk of running that many tanks with $$$ of discus on 1 or a few sumps... I love sponge filters

Nah quiet as. sometimes they get a loud hum after ive unplugged them and plug them back in, but i find just moving/adjusting makes the hum go away. Rescaped it just now, looks pretty decent. When water clears ill take some pics. Took out a load of the uncured rock so hopefully thatll help with cycling.

Yeah will probably re-think it soon. Its hard to scape such a narrow footprint. Do you think i could get away with reducing the rock by 30%ish? Not having it touching the back is the difficult one.
  17. Sponge filters are great when you have multiple small tanks next to each other for breeding - as you can run upto 4 quite effectively off one big-ass air pump. They dont suck up fry too which is the other advantage.

Update. Looking a lot better now! got my 2000lph powerheads, power skimmer has broken in, and got 5kg of live rock. T5 unit is fixed, just waiting on a new Marine glo tube. Like my little hydrometer? Whatdya reckon to the scaping?

It could possibly melt it. Id get a heater guard, it will add like 2mm to the lenght and thickness of the heater, so if it will fit, id spend the $10 or so for the piece of mind.
  20. Pro E3s cost a bomb... if you are going for one of those over an FX5 then money isnt an issue I agree with David R. ringing around wont generally get you anywhere - a lot of places wont give their best price over the phone when someone calls up just to ask for the price.
  21. Barebottom ftw, then just keep the glosso in pots  But seriously, the slope is good, youll just have to cut back on the depth of your substrate layer. With glosso surely you can go as thin as 15mm gravel depth at the flattest point?

For some corals get at least a 24'' Glo double T5 unit... and get one of the jebo clamp on lamps for the AC110 - if and when you find some cheato its gonna need some light.
  23. Or take the lid to HFF. last time i bought a tank there i asked them to cut corners in the lids and they did it on the counter.
