Where did you find the Prestige line? I can't seem to find it stocked in any stores...
-
Yup. You can snip a little section out of one of the little plastic guards at the bottom of the intake and just stick the tip of the tube in that. The bubbles travel through the intake and then get hit by the impeller which will help diffuse them. The sponge also help diffuse any of the left over ones before the water flows back into the tank
-
I would boil the sand. Its not about the 'dirt' in it...its about the parasites/bacteria etc. that you could be introducing into your tank.
-
If the bubbles are making it to the surface then barely any of your CO2 is being dissolved into the water and thus is not accessible to the plants. You don't need a diffuser. Stick the end of your tubing into the filter intake. By the time the bubbles go through the filter into the outtake they will be absorbed...as several people already mentioned. Diffusers are $20 on Trademe

I just wanted to share this article. Its pretty comprehensive and well written and it explains exactly why to do a step http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/sh ... p?t=152401

Is the system air tight? Try squeezing the bottle...if you hear any whistling then you will have to fix it before it can work! Goodluck Milena

Thanks for the help guys. Yes I had tried using Drontal (which I know has other stuff in it but I read sites where people have used it for their fish and the vet also thought the other drugs might help if it wasn't flukes causing it) because it had a higher concentration of prazi. I didn't notice any negative effects, but I also didn't see any improvement. I have been using metro now in a hospital tank on 2 of the fish which were the skinniest and so far it doesn't seem to be helping either. If it does help then i will treat the others...i just didn't want to risk killing them all. I'm still pretty sure its Hexamita because i have seen white fluffy poo. The behaviour of the fish is good and they are still eating but the bellies are still slowly getting worse I will try dosing through the food jen. Thanks for the info. Its really frustrating. How come it seems so easy for people to de-parasitise their discus by just doing a couple courses in the tank? Hope this doesn't get all of them....

And if you didn't by them off the forum a couple months ago and you've never shipped before then you'll probably spend several days trying to track them down and paying a premium. People have their guppies living in bins/ponds outside during this time of year...so depending on what part of the country you are shipping to they will handle it just fine if you can't get your hands on a heat pad.
-
Because its only guppy fry and heat pads cost money.

Cool dude See if you can get them to hatch and have a look again. Snail larva is really cute! They are called 'veligers'.
-
Mine usually live about 4-5 days. What you can do is use them to feed for about 2 days and then concentrate the rest into an ice cube tray and freeze them
-
You don't need a heater. Just use a lightbulb placed really close to the hatchery. The bbs are also attracted to the light so come harvest time just remove the airstone and they will all end up where you point the light at. I point it right at the bottom of the container and then i just pipette them out. All the empty eggs float to the surface so no mixing occurs.

Hi guys, just trying to condition my rams for breeding. I've been feeding them frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms mostly. What is a good brand of flakes that is full of nutrients so I can at that to the repertoire? Also, what live foods would you recommend and where could I get some? Anyone got daphnia or whiteworms or something? Cheers!

Go to these guys! They have way better bulbs (spectrum up to 10000K) then bunnings or other hardware stores (which only have the standard crap fluoro) and just as cheap They are on Boulcott St. http://lightbulbman.co.nz/

Hi guys, one of my electric blue rams is getting really skinny with a very notable hollow belly. He is the only one out of 4 that is really bad but I've been watching the others carefully and am worried that they are also starting to get a little skinnier. They all have an excellent appetite which obviously means he must have some sort of internal parasites. I started treating him and another male (who I figure is at the beginning of the same path) with Drontal at 2mg/L this week because I hadn't noticed any white fluffy poo before. They are doing ok on the Drontal but its probably not helping and last night I noticed for the first time, white poo from these 2....so I guess that means that they have Hexamita and I should be treating with metro. I have a vet who is happy to prescribe me some and just wants me to calculate out how much I will need. I have the 2 sick rams in a 5 L hospital tank with a couple caves so i can save money on medication. He says he has liquid metro at 40 mg/mL, 200mg tabs and 400mg tabs. I've read from a couple other posts that people dose a 400 tab per 40L...and to repeat this every other day for 3 treatments. I wanted to try dosing the hospital tank first to see if this actually help them before I ruin my biological filter in the main tank. I forgot to ask how much the liquid and tabs cost...but I imagine the liquid form will prob be more expensive and basically redundant anyways. So I was planing to get about 3 x 400mg tabs and then dose at 1/4 tab for 10 L for the duration stated above. What kind of water changes do i need to do? And is it necessary to treat the main tank or can i just treat the fish separately and up the water changes for a while. Would I be re-dosing in 2 weeks time? Cheers

Hehe no worries phoenix. Yeah glass catfish are awesome! They never show their personalities in the store because they are scared! Mine like to hunt in the filter current and I like how they can they can turn on a dime! They are also brave enough to hand feed...and one got so excited once when getting fed blood worms that he jumped straight out of the tank. Luckily I was standing 2 feet away I do have 2 bristlenoses in there...does that count as catfish? I do want a whiptail in the future...
-
Ooooh. Cool, I will look out for those when they are ready! I probably don't have enough light for the red, but would love to try the others
-
Thanks N1CK and AquaVitamins They are still in there and they hand feed voraciously...hehe. Thanks for the suggestion Alan, its look as though that is the way its headed. I will try to hunt down a different species with a similar look but the bet stores are pretty useless when I asl them about plants

Oct 3 - temporary background Oct 23 Dec 18

Well this is what my 220L looks like after 3 months from being set up. At first I planted lots of different plants because i wasn't sure which would make it with my lighting conditions and gravel. I also wasn't sure which would grow taller or quicker so i just spread them about. Now I've taken out those that were not thriving and also rearranged those that were. I've also added a temporary dark background because I still can't decide whether to go for solid matte black, rocks, mangrove roots, etc...and I got more driftwood! Please give me some suggestions for any rearrangements/additions and so on. I realize the left corner is a little empty but i'm waiting for the star grass and other plant (forgot the name, but its suppose to grow like a weed) to grow in. The light is not as bright on that side because of the power unit in the light. I have been dosing some flourish excel and flourish but do plan to get a DIY Co2 bottle sometime in the near future. I haven't added any fert balls/tabs yet because i don't want to disturb them while i still move the plants around and make the water cloudy. Fish: glass cats, neons, longfin black skirt tetras, longfin leopard danios, male guppies, SAE, burmese border loach, 2 bristlenoses (1 albino, 1 normal), 1 F kribensis, and some corries. Sept 16 - 5 days after setting up the tank Sept 27 Oct 3 - still without any background

Hi Zev, I have a boy just like the one in the 3rd pic (except my guy's tail isn't quite as long yet) that shot out randomly from one of my first batches. The parent's didn't really look like that but the female did have a black/yellow patterned tail. What would you call his look? Cheers.

I always have a pit in my stomach when watching it... For anyone who hasn't seen it, i suggest you watch it from season 1 to get the full effect. I'm not sure if New Zealand even picked it up till season 2, but they are a season behind anyway. Dexter's morning routine: And yeah...its not comparable to soaps
