  1. I'm interested too .. as I have a female that has had a flat belly and no fry for months. I was wondering if she has a parasite too but have treated the tank with two different meds for parasites (Levamisole and prazi) on two different occasions. Meanwhile my other female guppies plump up each month and drop healthy lots of fry.
  2. he doesn't need to have a female . mine blows bubble nests too but i don't put a female with him. There's a few bits and pieces you need to know if you want to breed them.. but the experts here will help you out.
  3. i have bought from hippo a few times , very helpful and friendly. I've had to ring to make enquiries and they seem to know what they are talking about. I got my AVIVERM (levamisole) from them when I couldn't find it anywhere else.
  4. hmmm well it must be some sort of plant.. that narrows it down... (not really)... and I'm thinking he wants to put an outside or pond plant into an aquarium.
  5. yep my male fighter will turn the gravel over looking for baby platy! (they dart down there to hide) We recently had a baby platy disappear and I thought it had been eaten... till a week later we vacuumed it up in the gravel... skinny and all pintailed but still alive!!! The fighter (who my daughter named Sayid after the soldier from Lost) must have dug him right into the gravel and he got stuck . I took pity on the poor pathetic thing , transferred him to the fry tank and fed him up on decaps brinshrimp eggs ... he's in there with a bunch of guppy fry and I reckon he thinks he's a guppy now.. they touch noses and swim together. Think we'll have to keep him, and his name is "gravel" .. I also have a guppy called "filter boy" These are my daughters names for them
  6. the first time I saw a mother guppy eat her young I was horrified.. I knew it would happen but was not nice to watch! I always imagined it would be a single gulp - not so ! it was like a bite and then a couple of gulps to get the thing down her throat .. ick. I told myself that the natural order of thigns would mean fry get eaten and the strongest and fittest will eb the survivors.. but once those little thigns are born and swimming I get all protective over them ... but not enough to separate them , I wait till a week and then put the survivors in another tank to grow.
  7. adodge that red female wasn't very good at population control lol.. sadly she died after getting herself grazed/injured under the driftwood :-( The blue male is doing great. Do you have any nice red finned cambodian? (female)
  8. lol, females guppies are always hapu! mine got on quite well with the female fighter.
  9. i think furan2 is mainly used as a broad spectrum systematic antibiotic.. it has a little meth blue in it but IMO an expensive way to treat finrot. Acriflavine is measnt to be OK for finrot ... 3 days then large waterchange then another 3 days. It's not dear to buy.
  10. yay congrats ! not sure how long to leave the fry.. mine are just left in main tank and they stop disappearing after about a week. Out of 30 in the last lot, I still have about 20 at a month old so not too bad really.

    Whiptail ID

he's grown slightly, I'll see if I can put a better photo up tomorrow.. he looks nothing like the royal whip above.. those are neat btw.
  13. so how long will the eel be kept? surely he has to eat sometime???
  14. i had them early on ... there was a nice colony going in my noodles!!! I swished them in the tank water and the fish love to eat them! I think the feeding regimen is under control now as I haven't seen the, for ages.
  15. it took my female platy 8 weeks before she dropped her first lot and then 4 weeks after that. And one of my golden guppies hung onto one of her lots for over 8 weeks and then had about 15 at a time two weeks apart and a final drop of over 30. bizarre. I've come to the conclusion that there's no hard and fast rule with livebearers.

    OH DEAR!

oh that's awful! could you not save any?
  17. oh, and increased temp does decrease available oxygen too but the temp in itself shouldn't be the problem.
  18. to help the experts (which is not me!) they will need to know if you added water conditioner/dechlorinator.. and the water parameters like pH, Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate . If you don't have those tests kits , its worth gettign when you can.. i had no idea my nitrates could creep up despite good regular water changes before I got my nitrate test. What about aeration,, is the water well filtered/aerated? If they're all hanging at the top sounds liek they need oxygen.. are there gills a normal colour? ammonia can cause more red/pink than normal gills.

    vertical guppy

well I haven't used furan yet, i gave her an epsom salt bath and she seems to be doing better today. Not vertical but not swimming completely normal either. Might give her another bath.

    vertical guppy

water quality is ok..nitrates might be a bit high 20 ppm - i check it every 7-10 days becuase my tank is only about 6 months old. She is my piggiest guppy - can this be part of the problem? She will even steal the kuhli and BN food i put down.

    vertical guppy

I will QT her of course, because the two males I have are constantly mating her even though there are other females to choose. She needs a break!

    vertical guppy

so what do I do for her? the meds I have on hand are Furan2, meth blue, acriflavine, tonic salt.

    vertical guppy

if my guppy is headstanding some of the time but swimming around normally and eating the rest of the time.. is it still a swim bladder problem. The last few days I have seen her vertical in various levels/parts of the tank but she's not like that the whole day. What shall I do with her?
