oh I just realised you think I said "Crooked Fry" but I said Over - cooked.. as in overdue.. sorry, for the confusion. the fry look great! half are golden just like mama (they will be girls) and the other half the std greyish looking fry which i really hope will be snakeskins. !
-
what do you class as crooked back lyndyloo? Here's my golden girl .. is she crooked? I don't think her spine looks too bad but she developed a a sort of little little dent behind her head when she became heavily pregnant. She never had that when she was younger.
-
well my golden girl finally birthed the rest of her fry. There are about 15 overcooked fry and she is fine . But i think there are a few more in there!
-
snap .. I was just going to ask that.. who cleans the pleco muck? .. and don't they need some current?
-
looks liek soem sort of larval stage of a fly perhaps.. not housefly .. but something similar to a caddis or mayfly .. it's not any of those (they are cold water) but that's what it reminds me of.

that sux.. sorry I'm not a lwyer but that really doesn't sound right! The entrants didn't pull out so it should be the organiser who refunds In my non legal opinon. To me it would be similar to the laws governing show event sales and I found a link in consumer: http://www.consumer.org.nz/reports/buyi ... conditions -
yes! is that what they are? ..lol, i thought he had hurt himself .. haha .. poor wee fella , i got all his hopes up and then took his dreams away. she was flaring right back at him but then seemed to freak out every time he charged the side to get closer to her. I only have the one female but i think I will just keep the two bettas away from each other.
-
mine tries to get under the driftwood so she can be with the kuhlis . When they come out she sits ON them. They don't mind luckily. So far she has broken both her ventral fins and scraped her side by trying to get under the wood becuase she used her ventrals like little feet to manouver! Not sure how to get her to stop doing this.

I don't have any melafix but i put him in the hospital tank overnight with salted water and he looks heaps better today. I can only just make out where the marks were so he's on the mend thank goodness. But he's flaring at anything that comes near him now.. feisty thing! The salt water is agreeing him , his colour is beautiful after just 24 hrs!

oh dear, what happened?

you keep repeating yourself alanmin.. we are going to have to agree to disagree. Violence is uncontrolled and turbulent and unrelenting till the fury has exhausted. On the other hand a controlled considered smack is over in 5 seconds, and does not injure or damage the child. What about parents who yell and rant and rave and scream at a child.. are they not also abusing that child? Words can cause just as much long lasting damage as a violent beating. So it all comes back to control! control of anger!
-
I agree with you in theory twinkles. But it's not the kids fault if their parents won't feed and cloth them properly. They get little say in the matter. I work at a low decile school and it is heartbreaking seeing how many kids come to school with no breakfast and inadequately clothed. The school runs a breakfast club, at least then, the kids can start the day with food in their tummy. yes, some parents abuse this and send their kids to school knowing the school will feed them .. but there's a fair few who would not otherwise have breakfast.
-
I don't consider a controlled smack an act of violence.. there is no intent to injure or maim. no ! that's exactly right! they don't think about the consequences of giving the wife a bash.. nor do child beaters think about the law when they lay into their children.. exactly why children will continue to be maimed and killed despite the law. The only ones that will think twice are those who are already showing restraint and common sense when they smack their children. SO who is being punished?? the good parents who have considered their child rearing techniques, who have made a conscientious decision , who do no let their temper get a hold of them. There is already provision within the law to prosecute people who violently abuse their children.. why do we need another law which will punish good parents who have caused no harm to their children.
-
that is really twisting it alanmin... talk to those who voted no and ask them if they want to be more violent with their kids!!! I voted NO and there is no way I want to be violent with my kids .. no way. I have never and will never hit my kids or whacked them. i have smacked them on their butts or on a hand when they were preschoolers .. as I was when I was a kid.. always in a controlled manner. It was my Dad who smacked me, and I love him to bits, he is the gentlest sweetest man you could come across. I don't like nor appreciate violence in the name of a sport game. It comes as no surprise that our sportsmen have more than their fair share of high testosterone levels. It's great that the energy is channeled into a game.. but some just don't know when to stop.
-
it never was regarded as acceptable by the majority of NZers.. and even amongst many who have lost their temper and done exactly what they said they never would do or wanted to. The cycle of violence DOES need to stop but the law which punishes responsible and restrained parents is not helping one iota.

I've put things back to the way they were and they can't see each other. But what to do for the boys gills .. will they heal by themself?
-
well the male has gone hypo and is trying like crazy to get to the female and flaring up at her. But now his gill covers have what look like red scratches down the side! help , did he injure himself in his excitement??
-
for really pesky fry .. use a Turkey baster!

I use a plastic container too, to catch any of my fish. I've haven't needed to use a net for any of them. (but I don't have big fish) A jimbos container seems to be perfect ..just push it down and under the fish and they get sucked in - works especially well with the betta! I use an old Jimbos container for lots of things, cupping in fresh water, scooping out water for testing etc. removing the label: (so it doesn't start to flake off when wet) put hot water in it for half an hour, then peel off what you can. Any residue is easily removed with cooking oil and paper towel.. or use a cooking spray and let soak for a few minutes before towelling off. .. rinse thoroughly afterwards and dry with a paper towel to get rid of any remaining oil. It works! It's how I remove the labels form any plastic ware.. incl the big juice bottle I've got ready should I ever need to isolate a fish in the tank.
-
That sounds hideous! would you do it that way aagin? I still think using clove oil as a prior to any chosen method is the best way to go.
-
if your fish are salt tolerant, this can also help minimise the affects of the nitrite until it's under control. (not so good for plants and snails though)
-
it certainly is ! and he's very helpful showing you around and explaining the different types of fish and how they breed.. I've been twice.. the second time I noticed the 2nd doorway to another part of the fishroom! .. with MORE fish! It's like a gentle sauna in there
-
it has never been legal to beat your kids or assualt them. The law hasn't added anything to protect these children.
-
that's rubbish. People with a warped ideas use bible passages to push their own agendas , thinking they can justify by using bible passages out of context. That does not make a "born again"
-
parents should have the right to choose how they parent. a smack is not the same as a beating. Why take away the right to smack a child.. you don't have to agree with smacking but to take away another persons choice is ridiculous. You can parent your own children the way you see fit.. not everyone will have the same ideas as you and there is no single "one size fits all" method.
