sounds divine.. you got some canadian in you ay?

here's what I want to do.. I want to put the AR850 into the spot where my ar380 is currently and then just use that one as a spare. the Ar380 is only about 35-38L and I'll try and use as much as the water as I can but that still leaves a heck of a lot of new water for the fishies to get used to. I'll use some of the existing noodles and gravel, and the sponge, that should help get the filter going but any other suggestions to make the transition go smoothly. What plan of attack should i take. I am not looking forward to catching the kuhli! There are 3 kuhli, three guppies, 1 platy and a young female betta to transfer. Yes I need the bigger tank!

smidey are you saying you like the sunsun better? the AR850 .. if I'm one of the lucky 10, is $449 incl cabinet. It will be a huge improvement on my AR380

thinking about buying an AR850 . Any thoughts about this tank? Am able to get it for a really good price. What size heater would I need? .. it's about 160L I think.

mine are in with guppys, platy , female fighter. had a bristlenose in with them for a while but he harrased the kuhli and wouldn't let them eat. After rehoming the BN , we've seen the kuhli out in the open a lot more.

crazy and cool little fish - i love them! here's mine , the first time he went up the filter: (that's bok) and another one (Bik) when he/she was younger. Much fatter and bigger now, I'll have to get an update next time he/she is out dancing. and Bak:

like I said.. mine did that 3 times! The third time I thought he was a gonna.. was motionless in the filter (which is a trickle filter) and he was on very shallow amount of water on top of the cartridge and was not only scratched but looked like he was bleeding internally and his fins were red. When I went to scoop him out he wiggled and leaped back into he tank and lay there for an hour before hiding under driftwood. He is great now. I then I bought a shorter intake pipe so he wasn't so tempted to swim into it and he's not been up since.. the other kuhli had more sense and stayed out of trouble.

Scratched. mine looked like that after he took a journey through the pipe and filter!.. three times! - I just dosed the water with stress coat to aid healing and he was fine. (and I bought a different intake)

LOST COCKATIEL - please keep an eye out for her in Manukau

Thanks moya that's great you got your Alexandrine back so soon. I have just emailed the birdrescue with photographs and will ring later to see if they got it. Last night it rained heavily and temperatures are dropping. I didn't sleep very well thinking about it but our best hope is that someone has found her and is caring for her and will try and find her owners. -
as a comparison .. here are my platy ...slightly different body shape
-
you're not supposed to catch them , release them or keep them! But I've seen them in the ponds at a birdpark and they wern't concerend at all. I don't know if they'll be any good for algae control as they like live food. http://www.doc.govt.nz/conservation/thr ... /gambusia/ It's legal stauts is "unwanted organism" Unwanted Organisms (Biosecurity Act 1993) It is illegal to release, spread, sell or breed unwanted organisms. There is a $100,000 fine or five years imprisonment for people caught doing so. - http://www.doc.govt.nz/conservation/thr ... docs-work/

was going to say gambusia too though it does look like a guppy. Gambusia are illegal fish common in North Island ponds , their fin placement are different to guppy and the males have a much longer gonopodium lol

LOST COCKATIEL - please keep an eye out for her in Manukau

yes it did happen quickly, we are in shock! have advertised on petsonthenet as well as TM. Will be ringing around the vets tomorrow. thanks Sam.. it is very possible she could be in your area, not that far for her really. Tiels are very good fliers and sunny is a particularly strong flier. Even when she was fully clipped she could still fly , just not coordinate her landings very well. That was part of the reason we decided to let her grow back her flight feathers so she wouldn't keep damaging her tail and would get some good exercise. But we were very surprised to see how quickly she disappeared on the horizon.. she was circling at first and calling out to us and then I think a seagull spooked her and she was gone. Sunny is a pretty girl, one of the nicest cockatiels I've seen and certainly the sweetest we've owned. We already have the new Cockatiel that was to be Sunnys friend , picked her up this afternoon . We had Sunnys cage out this afternoon and will put the new bird outside tomorrow becuase they might hear each other and call, even though they don't know each other. The new girl is a pied pearl with a lot of yellow. Quite pretty as well. We've been trying to stay positive for the kids, even my 15 yr old son was up on the roof with binoculars and calling out to her and trying to find her. -
Hi Jambls Welcome tell us about your fish interests.

oh that's sad Caryl. Thanks everyone for your kind words. Hopefully she will come down to a kind human when she's hungry. Tonight will be hard for us. -
I am putting this add everywhere I can think of as we are so desperate to get our Sunny back home safe. LOST COCKATIEL - “SUNNY” – Yellow Lutino Cockatiel She is yellow with orange cheeks April 4, 2010 Lost WATTLE DOWNS - MANUREWA but is a strong flier so could be anywhere. Our precious cockatiel accidentally fell out of a slightly open window and circled the house a few times before she flew away. She won’t know how to fend for herself and we are all devastated. She is tame and may land on your head or shoulder. Please if you sight her or find her contact us asap. PH: 021 396889 She is my daughters bird and today we were going to get another tiel friend for sunny. it is also my birthday but now I just feel sick with worry. Here's what happened: my daughter let Sunny out and for some reason she did not draw the curtain this morning, I guess she was excited with Easter and my birthday and thinking about the new tiel we were getting this afternoon. Sunny banged into the window and slid down into a very slightly open window , fell outside and then flew straight up. She circled the house a few times calling to us and we were calling her and then she disappeared. The kids are still wandering the neighbourhood looking for her. We are so upset and can't believe after all this time it happens today. We've had her for three years and leave her unclipped so she can free flight and get good exercise, i don't want to debate about the risks of unclipped birds please ... we know. Jaimee is in tears and I'm pretty emotional too. We won't ever let it happen again as we've been so careful and this is just a sad lapse in vigilance.

you're right.. I'm going to look at one on Sunday afternoon :-) Not a Lutino but a pretty pied pearl.
-
well I just put in an adult platy with him and even though she's not a guppy he seems to have perked up a lot.
-
thanks Caryl.. Yes It just occurred to me that it may be too late in the season now.
-
ok, I know there are a few bird lovers on here as well as fishy people. I'm looking for a handraised lutino cockatiel in the auckland area. I would first need to bring our 3 year old lutino to make sure she will responds ok to another bird before we go ahead and just buy one. Prefer not to go to petshops for my pets so hoping someone might know of a good breeder . There's one on TradeMe but it's at hibiscus coast , hoping somewhere a bit closer.
-
I look forward to see what fish you settle on. I keep a fighter with two platy and a small whiptail, with no problems. And in my other tank, a female fighter and a handful of guppys. I like guppys for starting out , pretty and interesting to watch while hardy at the same time.
-
lol, they're not too small..growing fast! he's not a big boy and was in with them before I moved him to quarantine. And if he managed to eat them anyway.. well it's live food! I wouldn't say he is less active than yesterday, he was less active as soon as I put him in this tank.. at first I thought maybe the pH was wrong or something , but it's only .1 of a difference and everything else is ok. So maybe I'll put some little guppy fry company in with him, the platy fry have gone to new homes and he's all alone.
-
i don't have any live foods on hand, mozzie population dieing off so probably too late to start a bucket culture lol. he loves the frozen bloodworms but won't touch the dried brine shrimp flakes. There's somethign I've noticed about him though, he is mainly only going after food that floats by him and not looking for the bits that go down to the bottom , though he swims down to the tunnel to sleep at night. During the day he tends to hang around near the top and eat what is directly in front of him an nothing else. He can swim at different depths but in his old tank he was a lot more active . Would putting some young guppy fry (3 weeks) in with him be company or stress?
-
thanks for advice ..will keep doing what I'm doing then

Time for meds ???? that's not bits hanging off the top right of his tail, just a water mark on the glass.. but his tail is rather tatty looking :-( Water temp is 27oC, salt is 2+ teaspoons : 20L
