  1. I've had a betta jump out of the water to bite my finger because he thought I was bringing bloodworms. The gouramis do their fair share of nibbling and spitting.
  2. amazing . What else in in the tank with them?
  3. well I just went through this with my little choc zebra plec. I don't know much about discus but for my plec I added salt, raised the temperature and treated with blue circle white spot cure - but i believe that's hard to get a hold of now. I also did lots of water changes .
  4. get miniminder... a small download-able program that pops up every day with reminders for that day or upcoming events. Mines a great help. You can schedule regular occurrences and one offs. info: http://www.vellosoft.com/miniminder/index.html
  5. yes it is Sam.. the driftwood and the windelov. Good spotting.
  6. Zeb has his favourite piece of driftwood. He thinks he's hiding but i can see him lol. If I startle him this is where he rushes back to. The tunnel actually goes all the way through to the other end and he can fully hide in there if he wants to but he thinks if he pokes his head in that I can't see him.. or sometimes he doesn't even put his head in. haha FAIL this is the fish that was covered in ich a few weeks ago but thanks to everyone and especially phoenix I managed to get him back to health and didn't lose any fish despite my worrying about the salt! without flash:
  7. My Whiptail loves to hang on the plant leaves like a hammock. he lies there with the fins hanging off both sides. What you can't see is the swaying from the current so it looks like he's just chilling in a hammock lol.
  8. that was quick. looking forward to pics.
  9. just a question... how else was the driver supposed to get into his driveway ?
  10. it wouldn't hurt to quarantine him so you can observe him better. I had mine in QT while he recovered from the ich, he had a salted tank and is looking great now. Back in the community tank.
  11. how exciting , good luck. Raw meat (eg Jimbos/max) , raw chicken necks (chopped into thirds for littlies), quality dry food to graze on (eg nutrience, Royal canin) and an occasional tin of dine (the small tin, not dome . pure seafood no additives) is what I feed my cats on. As Jennifer said, aim to have some moist food in their diet. Raw meat alone won't meet all their needs, but dry food alone isn't always the best either . so variety! Raw meat and chicken necks is ideal for keeping their dental health in order becuase they have to really chew. Most of the dry foods just shatter in their mouth and do little for dental health. But with the premium dry foods you know they are getting all the nutrients they need and the convenience of grazing which cats prefer. My cats get wet once a day and a bowl of dry to graze on.
  12. two cars !! poor baby. Is she the cat in your photo?
  13. just start training them from day one to come in at dusk (mine are in before it gets dark, they know the routine) and arm yourself with a squirtgun for garden boundary training. (squirt ahead of them if they go towards the boundary line .. if they keep going then a direct hit on their head! - they soon learn where the no go zones are!)
  14. he is a blue but before his colours came fully in. The breeder called him a powder blue , but it was enough that he still won some prizes under his "Blue" label. He's 3 years old now and no hint of saddle like some of the blues get. His fur is still silkly white and nice markings.
  15. I was talking about the capstar. But the other spot on treatment at the supermarket is vile toxic stuff and I can't believe it's not already banned.
  16. and this is my BIG loveable raggy
  17. how can you resist this: (My birman)
  18. aaaw a new kitten. I have a Birman and a Ragdoll so you're my kind of person lol. If you want want of those , best to go to a registered breeder with a known pedigree.
  19. grrr how annoying. A few weeks ago I came home to find a courier delivery van flipped onto its side across my lawn and driveway. The driver had only hurt his knee but it could have been a lot worse, he narrowly missed the street lamp. What had happened is he was driving along when a speeding car on the wrong side of the road was heading straight for him, he had to swerve to miss, came up on the footpath and onto our lawn, turned to avoid the streetlamp and flipped the van. It was undrivable afterwards and needed to be towed away (after being pulled upright) Glass and plastic all over the place. The gouges in the grass and concrete still remain. The speeding driver didn't even stop. Police weren't interested in coming out either. Our neighborhood is currently in the process of getting a CCTV system in place if enough people sign up - we certainly don't mind putting our $20 in.
  20. oh dear. that's sad. My two cats spend hours eyeing up the tanks but they can't get the lids /hoods off any of them.
  21. a spot treatment? personally I wouldn't use that on children! you can get that at the supermarket - very affective knockdown treatment for fleas, but again .. I would not risk it on my children.
  22. my daughter had the same problem at primary school. the ONLY thing that worked was this: mix up equal parts of baby oil and vinegar and wet hair with this. Leave on 20 minutes and then thoroughly wash out. Use a knit comb to get any stragglers who will be half dead by now. The oil suffocates the live lice and the vinegar loosens the egg knits for combing. It does leave the hair looking really greasy for a few days and smelling like a fish and chip shop the first day! So it's ideal for the upcoming holidays but it does work and avoids the chemical burden. good luck!
