duckbill is the name of the part I have on my aquaone tank,. it stops the water droppign staright into the tank and diffuses it just under the surface.

i think that was the choc zebra. Lovely fish but not the same. It was a choc zebra on TM that caused a stir with crazy prices because people thought they were bidding on something more spectacular and rarer than it was. Amazing that people were paying hundreds for one choc zebra. My lil guy cost less than $50 ... way less.

Just curious about what my whiptail is doing. he is thrashing his tail back and forth while opening and closing the whip part of it at the same time. Never seen him do it before, there's no fish near him. He is about 1 and a half years.

where else in NZ could you buy the zebras?

my biggest female who is a decent size had the hugest growth spurt when she was carrying her first lot of fry. She just seemed to grow really fast once she became pregnant and she was quite young too.

yeah we got a baby kuhli yesterday.. so tiny compared to the adult kuhlis I already have. The baby kuhli came from a tank that had several eels and a small black knife in it.

Can peacock eels live with kuhli loaches or will the latter become tucker? I saw some baby kuhlis housed with young eels at HFF but once the eels grow to full size would it be a different story? My daughter is very keen on a young peacock eel but was wondering about suitable tank mates. She would like a couple of kuhlis and white mollies.. (fry = food!) We're cycling the tank with some guppies at the moment but will soon be looking for the peacock. PM me if you have any little ones you want to sell. (15cm or less)

it's hard to know what to do when we're not exactly sure about the cuase of fishy sickness. I usually quarantine the sick ones for three reasons.. I can treat the sick one more aggressively, lessen the risk that other fish get sick plus it's chepaer to treat a smaller volume of water and the water changes arn't as time consuming. Sometimes I will treat the main tank simultaneously but less aggressively. But it doesn't hurt to treat the whole tank if you know what's wrong. If it is bacterial I would have thought something like furan2 would have been better. Pimafix is primarily an antifungal although the bottle does say it is for bacterial as well.. just not sure how potent the antibacterial porperties would be. I've got aguppy in QT right now with pimafix for torn tail that wasn't healing, so I'll be watching to see how helpful the pimafix is as it's the first time I've used it. Anyway, good luck with this. I had heard that dwarf gouramis can be hard to keep alive but my two are doing fine so far, despite one almost killing himself twice!

yeah I've had the same thing happen but the slime was more milky white. It went away by itself after a few weeks and it was only on the driftwood.

yes I would certainly quarantine and add some uniodised salt such as rock salt to the water. You could try a deshelled squashed pea which would help if he was constipated but if he's not eating he may not take it. Do you have any epsom salts.. they can also help with constipation and bloat. Garlic for parasites might help but all as a temp measure until you can get some meds form a LFS.

funny thread

This is a 6 week old guppy that came from a plainish female and wildtype male. I thought it was a golden female at first ( grandmother was) and so was keeping it but turned out to be a boy. haven't had one like this before. Is it a sunset guppy? or just some random looking guppy. He has a slight tuxedo look and it's so not sure if he is quite right to be a sunset.

flash is working fine but I just checked it on the test site as well and the latest version is definitely installed and working. I may have to just concede that Mafia Wars can no longer be my mindless time waster

I turn the modem off at night anyway and the problem has been going a couple of days. But will try again tomorrow.. funny thing is, it worked for a few minutes on internet exploer and then the same timing out problem. I'm resisting a tank in the bedroom! we have three tanks plus the QT which doubles as fry tank. .. and a spare AR380 sitting unused. Better not be anything too enticing at HFF tomorrow!! I thought I was going to have to buy a replacement kuhli because we hadn't seen #3 for ages, lifted up some stuff today though and out he came. The other two are always together so this guy is probably lonely .. will get him a friend anyway. ... and check out the guppies while I'm there. IF there's any import females left I might be tempted . I'm growing up a couple from the first batch of fry (unknown import fathers) ... one is a tuxedo with a black tail as well.. no hint of colour yet so I'm really hoping she's black. She's 8 weeks now.

At the rate I'm going I probably will end up with a tank in my room as well. it must be my computer but I'm not sure how to fix it. I ran cc cleaner a few days ago but that usually only removes cookies which theoretically should be baked again next time I login!

they haven't eaten plants in my experience but i wish i never got the darn things. I had some come in as hitchhikers with my kuhlis (the net scooped up some gravel which had 2 baby trumpet snails) ... now I have hundreds of them!

I keep a female fighter in with my guppies and they all get along quite happily. ANd then a couple of dwarf gouramis to give a different shape /size to look at.
