yes, mine goes clear the next day too.. so do I need to redose the initial amount or just the waterchange portion?

eek.. callamanus worms. They were my first introduction of fish illness. In fact the very first fish i bought .. a shop bought guppy came to me infected with callamanus. So 1 week after I set up my new tank as an absolute beginner ,. I was having to learn very quickly about parasite treatment and isolation etc etc. I didn't save that guppy because the darn aviverm (levamsiole) got held up at the supplier and I didn't get it in time. But I treated the rest of the tank and didn't have any further problems. All you can do is keep gravel vacuuming and retreating till they're gone. Once you see the worm stage they are already releasing the eggs.

how many fish for a newly set up AR380 (34L) quarantine
BikBok replied to BikBok's topic in Freshwater
didn't realise they get that big! might not work then , we wouldn't be able to fit a tank that size in her room. back to the puffer or bumblee idea I think.. She wants something a bit different, 1 -2 species max, not a community. -
yes I have stress coat. It's what I've been using to dechlorinate the water in the Q.T Maybe I'll up it a bit. I read that when the white spots come off they can leave mini exit wounds so that can't be helping.

well I took your advice Phoenix and walked away from the oh so cute rainbow shark at HFF today! You're quite right ... there will be more! I did get the guppies and you can see some pics of mine on the HFF guppy thread. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=46218 my daughter saw an eel that captured her interest. What size tank would one of those need? (kept alone or with 1-2 compatible fish) It was a spotty eel, that's all I know! She was interested in setting up dwarf puffer or bumblebee goby but now likes the eel.. is saving up . so got time to think about it. -
discontinued? that's why i couldn't find any - what a shame! I got mine form a LFS owner who kindly decanted some from his bulk container into a smaller one for me. Didn't even charge anything for it. more like blotches , as in the photo. It's hard to tell but I think it is loss on colour as against a film over top.. or could be both. Here's another pic:

dwarf gourami & betta - bad idea?? update on STUPID gouram
BikBok replied to BikBok's topic in Anabantoids
UPDATE I'm quite pleased with how Elvis is healing, he's doing great and the head wound especially has improved heaps! I added a little bit of salt to the water and also gave a daily salt bath in a higher concentration for a few days, and added acriflavine to one of those. Now if he can just avoid getting the ICH that has manifested in my tank on another fish, he should be fine. Dorsal fin will take a bit longer to regenerate but he was putting it up today. -
UPDATE Most of the spots have gone but I'm concerned about his skin condition. It has cloudy patches on it.
-
yeah, they're cool. Fish think they're hiding. haha. Hope Zeb will be ok (his name is Zebidiah, yes we name our fish!)
-
that's what I thought. Looks like I've got my work cut out for me over the next couple of weeks. Litte Red Platy is flicking so I'll pull him out and put him in QT as well. QUESTION : once a fish has rid himself of the spots and has been clear for say 5-10 days, can he get reinfected? From what I've gathered on the net, treatment needs to continue for 3 days after spots disappear. After a few more days would it be safe to put Zeb back in the main tank? (with the chance there still might be tomites lurking) I'm just trying to avoid putting the blue stuff in main tank, hoping to control with salt and temp and will only pull out fish one at a time if I notice they are flicking or spotty. My QT tank is only 20L so i can't put too many in there at once!..

REDOSE ? the water has turned clear over night. Do I need to redose , and what amount? As I said, I don';t have a retail bottle of white spot cure (blue circle) so am just going off what I can find online which is 2 drops per Litre, which I have halved for the plec but was going to increase today.

how many fish for a newly set up AR380 (34L) quarantine
BikBok replied to BikBok's topic in Freshwater
oh crap .. I just realised I can't use the sponge from the AR850 .. because it might have the ICH in it !! -
thanks, I don't have the original bottle so don't have the instructions. This was decanted to me from a very nice LFS from their bulk supply as they didn't have any retail bottles. I just want to clarify whether I redose each day or just the amount that has been removed in water changes.

ARE THERE ANY AFTER AFFECTS TO ICH? there are only one or two spots left on the choc zebra but his skin is looking a little cloudy.

thanks. what is the strongest salt dose I can use with kuhli loaches and otos in the tank? can I just treat it with salt and temperature? I'm using blue circle white spot cure for the zeb at 1/2 dose -

phoenix, while you're here..my choc zebra had hardly any spots today... but that was before I managed to put him in QT. does that mean my community tank is now going to have an ich problem? -

ok dokey. Just thought I'd make use of the trip and would need to quarantine one eventually anyway. They have some small 5cm ones which is what I was after. But might be a bit much in one go aye. -
I've branched this off from my other thread. But basically my usual QT is begin occupied by my chco zebra plec who has ich I'm going to go into HFF to get some guppies and was wanting a rainbow shark as well. I have dug up my daughters old AR380 and got it running. It's only 34L so was wondering if it was big enough to quarantine a 5cm rainbow shark along with 2-4 guppys. i realise it doesn't give him much swimming room but it would be only for a few weeks until I'm sure the AR850 community tank is clear of ich. I'm using a spare sponge that I've kept in the AR850 filter for such a purpose of needing to start another tank but am also prepared to do daily water changes if necessary.

SPOTS GONE . I didn't have time to catch and QT him this morning so did it after work.. but MOST of the spots are gone! uh-oh .. does this mean that ich will be rampant in my main tank now? I really want to avoid having to medicate the main tank! SETTING UP ANOTHER QT. hehe I'm going to go into HFF after all and get some of those guppys. that sounds adorable! Zeb is in the QT tank now.. hiding in a short tunnel which i have full view of haha.

BLUE CIRCLE WHITE SPOT CURE 2 drops per litre.. do I halve this for plecos? extra oxygen needed?
-
Hi melanie your tank is about the same size as my community tank. I have an aqua one AR850. I was advised that a rainbow shark would be fine in this tank with lots of hidey places , which i have got. But i have to reconsider whether he will be too zippy for the choc zebra. Might buy him on a trial basis .. and if he deosn't work out , will resell him. But really hoping he wil work out as I think they are cool! Well my choc zebra has ICH :-( .Poor little guy, the move must have been too much for him. So now I have the fun job of trying to catch him this afternoon and put him into the quarantine tank. I know where his hiding spots are but it's still going to be fun!!! He has started coming out more too, in the evenings around feeding time he comes out and hangs around.
-
I did wonder compatibility .. the breeder thought a shark and coc zeb would be ok in the same tank but i didn't think about the zippiness of a shark scaring the zebra. food for thought. I wonder what others have experienced. My Zebra was very shy for a few days but he comes out in the evenings.

Hey Sam that's very kind. DO you have a tank that is already going, I wouldn't want you to have to set one up! I would be getting 2 males guppies, and possibly 2 females. I have other females in my main tank for the numbers. What about the rainbow. Maybe I should just leave him for now.
