  1. interesting. do you mean fresh/live bloodworms or the frozen type? I feed my fighters frozen bloodworms once a week. What is it about the bloodworms that can cause dropsy?
  2. i had some very tiny snakeskin males at one stage .

I've seen plant weights for sale at Hollywood fish farm , they're a bit different to the ones that come with bought plants but still do the same thing.

    Hi All

welcome Dean I think I've seen your website
  5. that's pretty much the size tank i have for my male betta and he has a platy friend in there with him.
  6. I've seen that shed ! it's pretty full of fish! and quite cosy
  7. i have seen some guppys at a private residence that looked like spear tales. Whether or not they breed true or not I have no idea but they did look interesting. I'm trying to remember the username as it was somebody on here, his grandfather was breeding them.
  8. He see's the kuhlis in there and think's there's food to be had! The kuhlis do sometimes take food in there. Anyway , it should be safer for him now as the opening is big enough for him to get out the other end. He is the dominant fish in the tank and does any chasing but usually just the other dwarf gourami at feeding time.
  9. bubble oh 7 - my red delta tux: california (female) Shelby (green cobra) Vegas (neon tail) Dakota (another female) Wildthing (looks better in real life) girlfriend (female tux) two more snakeskins and mallowpuff (female neon i think) golden girl plus fry
  10. lol, that's exactly what I just did
  11. lol.. at home I am constantly calling our birds, fish and their cage a tank. But then I also call the siamese fighters, birds  Somehow over the past year our single AR380 tank has tunred into 4 tanks of all sizes and Miss 13 is saving up for another to house a young eel.
  12. well he was starting to look almost back to normal. Wound on top was barely visible and the dorsal fins were repairing themselves. ... until ..... the STUPID FISH DID IT AGAIN!!! We got him out and he is all scratched and battered again but is swimming around happily this morning. Back to the extra water changes and salt baths which seemed to help last time. As for the driftwood , it's out of the tank and air drying. Then we will tunnel out the hole so it is big enough for him not to get stuck again. All i can say , is stupid fish! the other gourami has more sense.
  13. yes,my water turned clear overnight after each dosing as well. I redosed every 2nd day for the full amount ,for a total of 3 doses .I have sensitive fish and fry and they are all ok. Both my QT and my community tank are now visibly free of whitespot but I am keeping the temp up for just a few more days. Good luck!
  14. Botany didn't have much to choose from (that looked nice) so went back to Manukau and got a replacement plant. My son asked to have the old one that I took out of the tankand has planted it in a normal pot with soil lol. Will be interesteing to see if it grows.
  15. those are very nice stunning fish! $890. But I've had to settle for a choc zebra which is shy but not too shy,I do get to see him most days.
  16. QT TANK well my QT tank is finally spot free! zebby had two sets of spots and the guppy got covered but is now clear. The other guppy and platy who were flashing did not develop any spots. I will keep the temp at 29oC for 3 more days and then start to reduce temp and salinity. COMMUNITY TANK In the main tank, which I gave one dose of blue circle cure, there is a single dwarf gourami with a single spot on one fin. So I guess I need to continue to treat that tank. Once that's been clear for a few days I will put the QT fish back in and give the filter some bacteria boost. My otos, kuhli and whiptail seem to be coping. I really hope I can beat this and not lose any fish in the process. Thanks for all the help !!! QT GUPPY TANK Mean while my imported guppys are in their own QT just waiting out their time until I can put a free from ich NZ guppy in with them and see if the new guys have any werid virus that will infect them. THE HEXY My other tank , thank goodness has escaped all the drama... may it stay that way! My black whiptail in that one is near on full size, he looks awesome. Once everything has settled down and everyone is back in their own tanks I will look at finally getting my rainbow shark for the community tank.
  17. I'm going to take it out and replace it with something else.
  18. sorry I can't help but noticed your signature.. is that a Dexter quote?
  19. when i upgraded from my 34 L tank to the 160L one, i just moved all the gravel and filter media and transferred the same ornaments and driftwood, plants etc. There wasn't much water to make a difference but i added that too and topped up with the extra gravel and noodles I needed. The existing bacteria did their job because the fish numbers were the same and I added new fish slowly over several weeks. I also use TLC bacteria which helps things along. I didn't get any ammonia spikes so it all went quite well.
  20. well I better start looking for something else then. That's the only problem I find with buying plants at animates, if you don't know what you're looking for or if the right person isn't there to help you, it's a bit potluck! In fact, I asked for a recommendation and the staff member reached behind some other plants and said here's one that is really nice that's been hiding. Would be great to see some basic labels like they do with the fish. I suppose it's the same at most pet stores though. At least there is variety there. BTW , that nice silky leaf plant you sold me when I bought the AR850 is doing great and the undersides are a light red. Don't know what that is called either though lol.
  21. oh no! don't say that! I want to keep my "Elvis and Hobbit"
  22. the so called hardy guppy has been my bogey fish. Right from the first worm infested guppy that was sold to me to the more recent imported guppies that carked it. (no not my lovley HFF one, they're doing great) I only seem to have guppys die on me! Conversely my Kuhli loaches who i got a week after setting up are amazing little things that have survived a cycling tank, numerous trips up the filter, escaped the worm problem, put up with bullying by the BN's, endured a shift and two tank moves, one was a temporary carpet fish, were not affected by whatever disease those imported guppys bought into the tank, escaped the recent ich and were unharmed by any of the medications I've used in my tank. Great little guys who come out every day to let me know they're fine.
