  1. Is that for use with the CO2 solenoid?
  2. I agree with this one, never thought of the plastic back up thanks Jen!
  3. Still cheaper than pet shop prices and not everyone is able to or knows where to get them.
  4. +1. Sounds look if you have some awesome setups 8)
  5. You could buy an inline diffuser, I've heard they smash the bubbles into a mist but I'm yet to try one myself. The main issue with CO2 diffusion in larger tanks is getting good coverage, you need to spread the CO2 into every part of the tank so no plants miss out. Good diffusion will help with this but good current is better. I would try and find a way to split the CO2 between two or more diffusers as they won't cope well pumping out all the CO2 required for a large tank on their own.
  6. Are you growing plants now? Moving the lights closer to the surface of the water is the main way to increase the transmission of light into the tank. You could try a low ion glass like starphire?

  8. It's a shame your tank is 140mm longer than the light fitting but yes, that would do the job nicely and appears it comes with the correct tubes too. With that sort of light on for around 8hrs a day, I'd be dosing liquid carbon or DIY CO2 just to keep things in check. Are you planning a whole tank from scratch?
  9. If it were me, I'd use 1 T8 2ft 6500k tube on a 300 deep tank. If it was 400 deep I would be tempted to use two tubes. Relatively in expensive if you get the ballasts from Bunnings or Mitre10 Mega but the AquaOne AL60D units look pretty good, gives you the option of only running one tube if you get algae issues.
  10. Here's where you make the decision, do you go low tech with low light, liquid carbon and minimal/no ferts? Or do you go high tech with high light, pressurised CO2 and daily fert dosing? High tech is a bit like a fast car, it costs more to buy, more to run and things go bad a lot faster than in a slow car. You can get nice growth in a low tech tank but it will be slow, the key is to not over do the lights and keep everything balanced and well maintained.
  11. What sized tank? Do you have CO2? Are you prepared to dose ferts?
  12. I understand a one off accidental import from someone who didn't know the imported product was prohibited but 1. She sat bio-security papers as part of her studies and 2. She did it multiple times after being warned. Fully deserved.
  13. I think I bought a $5 piece of standard Java Fern back in the day, never bought any since, just been given tiny bits of narrow, needle and windelov. Then again, I have patience
  14. I regretted both selling and buying most of my fighters. Most of them were super agro and sensitive but they're really cool characters and look awesome so it's sad to see them go. The fish I regret most would have to be a 6" male EBJD, he ate my danios and black orchid PK but refused to eat the pellets I tried to feed him :an!gry But I got him for free so I passed him on for free.

    The What's Up? thread.

It's deep enough in most areas and it holds it well, just had a bit of slippage leaving some shallow areas where plants won't stay down :nilly:

    The What's Up? thread.

When I woke up this morning I noticed a couple of plants floating in my tank. So I replanted them in a gap. But then they displaced the plants next to them. So I planted those in another gap. But they displaced the plants next to them. Pulling my hair out before I'd even left my room :nilly:

I hope you're all doing it like this, not just pouring it into the tank. If you are then give it a couple of days to die.
  18. If by "it" you mean basil and tomatoes then yeah I actually don't know anything about growing cannabis, just about the legal debate around it all.
  19. Guys  I watch the news religiously and have seen a fair few documentaries about it. It's actually a really interesting debate but way off topic (don't tell Sophia) for this thread.
  20. Okay now this is just confusing. You're talking about the AquaOne Betta Barracks yes? I've heard nothing but bad things about those. If you need to keep males next to each other, slip a piece of card between the compartments and don't let them see each other for more than 30mins per day. Most people use the coke bottle method with success though. Females probably won't need to be kept in the barracks.

No way, I have SOME idea of what I'm doing The diffuser was in there just before the tank was filled, it's been filled for about four days now.
  22. They're still an aggressive species, I've had related females in a 3ft tank and they still fought, some to the death even. It all depends on the character of the fish but generally they can be kept together.
